Just ordered one:

Looks pretty cool, unsure where it goes?

Not sure if serious or trolling...

Edit: It's an LED flasher with alligator clips adhered to a plastic tower. For $100!? Stern is a genius!

i.e. stuff that shoulda been in the LE but will make you pay even more for it because we can. Sorry. Just my gut instinct when i saw this. Mods just seem like things they omitted. Leave that stuff to the aftermarket or you look like you're holding your customers upside down to shake money out of their pockets.

Yup! Stern should be including some of these mods on the LE models and cranking out code updates for the game instead of expecting owners to shell out more money.

I think its cool they partnered with Mezel Mods.

#6 4 years ago

I think its a awesome partnership.

Can we see any pics of this mod installed?

#7 4 years ago

$100 for a 3d printed part that large is not unreasonable. Now is it worth it? That's up to you. Odd there are no pictures of it installed.

I like that it lines up with the backboard art.

#10 4 years ago

That's not an unreasonable part. This isn't some toy at Toys R Us they made 9 million of. If this came from a known modder no one would blink at $99. Since stern sells it, there must be too much of a markup! The horror!

#11 4 years ago

It needs more detail maybe airbrushed, stands out like a sore thumb as is.

#12 4 years ago

Can you still cancel? Their shipping is steep, you could order direct from Mezel Mods and save about $15 on the shipping I think.

#13 4 years ago

I don't mind. I hope my purchase helps him get more direct contract work. It's a win win!

#14 4 years ago

ordered mine through Mezel. looks great.

Agree, it looks a bit unfinished (looks more like a demo). I would suggest adding decals? to give it rust, damage, wear, etc.

At least it should look more like the barn in style/detail.

Don't get this? I own a TWDLE. Guess you need to update your games to include TWD/LE or else that Troll is the person you see in the mirror!

It is what it is. There's enough bitching on here about everything when it comes to Stern. I'm not going to get into all that, pently of other dead end threads addressing that.

Cool mod, and good for Mezel to partner with Stern. BUT...trying not to be negative here...I can't help but think that if Mezel would be offering this on their own it would be half the price (or less). Their prices are usually very reasonable and this kind of sticks out as being overpriced and you know that's Stern's doing. :/

This is my fear too, hopefully the partnership keeps Stern from deciding to bring the hammer down on mod creators, however, the partnership surely will lead to increased prices.

#19 4 years ago

We are very excited about the partnership because it opens up licensed modding on Stern games. This is a good thing for those who love to pimp their game. I think its a win all the way around.
Design will always be something that can be critiqued- Tim wanted it to match the overall look and feel of the game. None of the other structures have a worn, apocalypse look (ie. the prison) so doing that on the prison tower would not have worked.

I kinda disagree about pricing. I think it's about $10-$15 over (prolly sterns royalty). I say that based on other mods I have bought from Mezel and the size. I have the woodbury, hitchiker, and cemetery arch(met) among others. I guess once I get one in my hands i'll have a better idea. I still think it's good for Mezel that Stern is accepting his/her mods and who knows what that will mean for Mezel in the future....

You are probably right. We know Stern is getting their cut but maybe it's not that much. It is also a very large piece and I'm sure that's a big cost driver too. Either way, like I said...good for Mezel. It's a really cool piece and it's great that a larger audience will see it through Stern!

Again... why would you guys not just get the McFarlane officially licensed one and save some cash??

Wow, nice. That's $80 on Amazon too. Makes Sterns mod seem a bit overpriced. To fair the McFarlane model needs to be put together, all 600 pieces.

I actually have this arriving tomorrow, and already have all the figures that I'm trying to figure out where to put in the game (Daryl can be seen "Where's Waldo" style in a pic I posted of the side art).

I get what you're saying, and in this thread I think your post is fine, but it's kind of rude in the one started by Mrs. Mezel in a give away thread.

That being said, why would someone not buy the McFarlane one?
Well scale/fitment could be an issue. I'll know for sure by the end of the week when I have time to play with it.
It's not plug and play and the average person may just want to buy something, install it with one bolt and be done. This one at a minimum will require gluing all the pieces together, to make sure they hold together. Then you'll have to take a dremel and chop the entire thing in half, test fit it and make and install your own LED flasher.
For a savings of about $20. Is it worth it? And that's if it even fits.

That being said you do get Glen in Riot Gear.

McFarlane tower is too big. It would have to be scaled down to fit on the PF. Already have one and it was my intent to add it.

I was just referring to you saying that you bought it and then in the exact same post saying you weren't even sure where it went.

I wasn't sure if you were serious or just trolling that you spent $100 on a 3D printed tower with an LED behind it without knowing where it went, but you did.

And I agree with the other posts; unnecessary, overpriced, doesn't interact with the ball, etc. The Mcfarlane tower looks really nice though, and it's cheaper.

I'm not bashing Stern. I think this is their pinball renaissance period actually. Them being able to sell a plastic tower for $100 with an LED behind it proves that. I mean how many people would have bought mods for High Roller Casino? If you like it and can afford to buy it, go for it! Enjoy yourselves! Heck, I'd love to have a Walking Dead machine someday, with or without the tower!

#28 4 years ago

I just forked over for this stern mod. DAMN YOU STERN! Selling cool shit!

There should have been something like this on the game in the first place.
The prison on the game looks more like a barn to me.

You're right, that's because it was a barn. Borg stated this in the making-of video. They changed it at the last minute by applying different decals.

To the Mezelmod family is this the final product of the idea i emailed you about 2 to 3 months ago? September 18th was the last correspondence.

Just starting reading the thread, back from my day job. I considered the McFarlane mod but I made the assessment it was too big. We considered some weathering, but it would have drove the cost up.

Well then sorry my topic seemed that way. I'm all in for whatever mods they have for the TWDLE. I'm not going to waste time nit picking what stern should or shouldn't do as far as mods/pricing. When I purchased it I didn't know where it went and I had looked at the Mcfarlane one a couple weeks ago and realized it was too tall and worried about durability seeing as it has to be assembled. And to follow that up I had wanted to have a tower (and was looking to try to incorporate one around the left ramp) so I guess I got caught up and bought it w/out really worrying about where it was placed. So chalk this up to a misunderstanding on both ends. It's all good!

Ah ha. I missed that video, but always had an idea in the back of my mind that is exactly what happened. I still call it a barn to this day and probably always will.

IMO #2 would be worth $150 if it fit and was plug and play. For $100 I would at least expect #1 to have some kind of shading or airbushing, to match the machine just a little. I'm not trying to be mean, just honest...it looks bad.

So let me get this straight. Every mod stern someone comes up with and stern sells will be met by a bunch of cry babies saying "stern should have included this in the game"? That's ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with offering mods. And who cares how great the McFarland tower is? It doesn't fit. And just because it's 3d printed doesn't mean less time and effort went into designing it. If it's so easy go 3d print one yourself. Oh that's right, you didn't invest in the expensive printer. Finally, there's no point saying it should be $10 or $20 cheaper. It's not. If you don't like the price then don't buy. Plenty will buy for the price it's at. Nothing wrong with trying to make a little profit on your time. Hate it when people who don't own or create something try to say what someone else's creation should be priced at.

The tower with flasher in it looks to integrate well into the game and fit perfectly. Nice job mezel

Eh, I don't think anyone is crying over this. I think people are expressing their distaste for the price vs. Product quality citing the mcfarland tower (which is a fair point).

But, this is not a hobby where anything makes logical sense. Its entirely frivolous!

So talking about adding a useless $100 plastic toy to a useless $8000 wooden toy is a pretty meta argument. If it makes you happy, go for it!

Im going to start making paper doll cut outs of characters from the show to fit inside the tower so people can complain about the useless paper toy for their useless plastic toy for their useless wooden toy.

That's my point exactly. I actually think $100 is very reasonable when the machine is $5k+. It's like pissing in the ocean.

That said the mod looks like a flat piece of plastic. It does not match the textures of the prison in the foreground or the background. IN MY OPINION it would cheapen the look of the machine at $20 let alone $100. I'm not being a "cry baby" and whining about it, buy it if you like it, I just don't like it. That is my OPINION, not my fact.

Another thing to think about, that McFarland tower comes in 620 pieces. It may be possible to not build the office at the base and shorten the entire tower to make it fit. Might be worth looking into.

I think some people are just pissed about what they are getting for $8k in modern Stern LE's. For $3500 over the pro you get side armor, an extra magnet, a gun toy, a ramp that lifts up, a spinner, a moving well walker and 3 mini heads....That isn't enough, especially when it then takes months if not years to complete code on top of it. It's a nice amount of extras but I don't see how they demand $3500. For that type of money the LE should come with the fish tank topper, the "blood" spattered side armor, a more interactive prison toy, a shaker motor and the guard tower.

I have the McFarlane Tower and haven't put it together yet. What I didn't realize when I bought it to use in the game last week (before I knew Tim and Mrs.) were making one was that it's essentially a set of Lego like blocks. My thought was to cut it with a dremel, which can still be done, but it's going to be a pain. I'll assemble it this weekend. The scale may simply be too big though.

One thing that may complement the Mezel tower nicely is a set of decals from Pingraffix. If they got together, they'd complement each other's talents nicely.

#50 4 years ago

I think the pricing is very reasonable, because anyone with 3D printer experience will know the time it takes to design and especially print, paint, pack and send, we the consumer are getting a better deal than what Mezelmods are.

Nice work guys, congrats with the team up.
