I've been down to 1 game for a while now, but as of next month I will have a TWD arriving however one thing that's always bugged me is that BIG head behind those prison doors. The scale is wrong for a start (that's one BIG head) and its just never made a lot of sense to me having a giant head behind the prison doors.

So the idea of maybe making a replacement popped into my head and it would make more sense to me and I think look way cooler visually to have a mini horde behind those doors. I have spoke to a pinsider known for his great sculpts briefly, I wont mention who as I haven't asked if that would be okay, but I did mention I would make a thread to gauge any possible interest. Its something I want to do to my game ASAP once it arrives but I thought if anyone else is interested in the slightest I'd through the idea out there & multiple orders are always nice on the old price per item side of things.

Anyway take a look and let me know what you guys think. My Paint/Photoshop skills suck so use your imagination, although it did take me literally 1minute to make the mock up but hopefully gives an idea what I'm going for

I'd be in if they look detailed enough and not cheap-looking.

#3 7 years ago

Pretty nice looking, Id probably buy one if it works well and isn't too pricey.

#4 7 years ago

Cheers guys, I'll definitely pursue it for my game, if there is enough interest to take it from a one off into a small run without it being too pricey even better.

#5 7 years ago

Was also thinking earlier today there has got to be something better than the big head. Opened your thread and bam, your idea hits me. I'd get one.

#6 7 years ago

Looks good, might want to grab one myself

id be in, i hate head.....

i mean behind closed doors...

#10 7 years ago

It's a no brainer. I said it before as well. Big head makes zero sense. Shoulda been a walker horde from the get go.

Good luck!!

OK so you are an exhibitionist then...

#12 7 years ago

It's a great idea...if your able to pull it off as you describe, you will be selling a lot of these. Looking forward to seeing the progress of this mod.

#13 7 years ago

I'd be up for one .

This is a bash toy. Whiles looks cool, I don't think a hoard will hold up to the ball slamming into it too well.

#16 7 years ago

I'm am in if things work out.

Maybe a piece of plexi/plastic could be mounted in front of walkers to take the hit.

As soon as I started thinking how I could replace the big head, its strength/durability was my first consideration. IMO the golden rule with any mod is it has to function as good but if not better than the part its replacing.

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

I have already considered that but also thought about a solid piece with a good enough paint job could be made to look like a horde of individual zombies, without drawing the players attention to the fact there all connected in a solid piece.

I came up with the added idea to maybe backlight it as well to give off a silhouette effect when the GI is low, so upon the doors opening you can see the silhouette of the horde then when the GI comes back up the horde is visible, but that's just my mind wondering it all comes to down if it can be made durable enough first and foremost before adding lighting effects.

If its done I will make sure its done right.

#20 7 years ago

Where there's a will, there's a way. Make it one piece for durability and the painter can help give the illusion that it's individual zombies packed together

Hmm I do know a very talented Canadien....

I'd for sure be in....love the backlight idea as well.

#24 7 years ago

Stick me on your list as one that might be interested pending what it looks like.

Interesting idea for sure

#26 7 years ago

Looks good to me. Put me on the list

#27 7 years ago

I'd be interested. I don't hate the head, but a horde would be sweet

#28 7 years ago

Certainly not a bad idea but i wouldnt mess with an already fickle switch in order to install it...

#29 7 years ago

How about a reverse impression of the head, thin clearance and just pressure stick a horde on top, with depth if needed on the sides....If it fits, its a 30 second install, and much greater demand.
just a thought.....

#30 7 years ago

Heck ya, give me a horde! My switch sucks anyway so would give me hope maybe I can get it to register better.

#31 7 years ago

I'd be interested! Ever since I heard Don on The Pinball Podcast mention that the prison zombie head reminded him of Carvel's Cookie Puss, it hasn't had the same effect for me.

The Prem and LE don't need it as Bicycle Girl's equally big noggin balances out "prison face's" ugly mug somewhat. If you had a bunch of tiny zombies in the prison then you'd have to deal with her setup... I suppose you could put a small one under there also but... nahhh

Besides I like hitting things directly in the face. It's cathartic.

#33 7 years ago

I would be interested in this! The face has never made real sense to me.

Maybe, it could have some sort of baseblock, which the ball hits, and then the zombies above that. Like in the badly painted picture attached here.

With some light blinking behind the zombie figures, it could resemble the horde silhouettes in the windows.

Exactly, pattern the solid space as a wall or a fence, and maybe it will fit in front of the head when the doors close.

#35 7 years ago

Oh this is coming along nicely. See? This is the brainstorming pinball community working together to get a game improved. I love it.

#36 7 years ago

Is this something one could suggest for MezelMods, for example? Althought the OP said he had a plan.

#37 7 years ago

I could probably paint these up to look more realistic, add some blood ..etc. The bottom part would be wood , get it ?

If I had to go with a solid bottom/base, I think sculpting it and painting it up to look like a pile of bodies would be the best idea visually? plus gives a chance to add a little more gore and gruesomeness, instead of just a solid looking block, thoughts?

I think it would look sweet, just making sure to build it so it works well with that switch is SO important. That thing is so fickle as is with the head. I really want/need something that is more reliable already as I can't get the head to register hits at least 25% of the time and finally just gave up and lived with it.

#40 7 years ago

I don't own the game, but how about this. Doors open, 1st hit sends bodies flying. Subsequent hits breaks an opto beam. Doors closing resets the bodies. Or just leave the bodies stationary and figure out how to use optos instead of a switch.

#41 7 years ago

I totally agree bemmett, I think I may have said it in a post above but if I can get this made with the help of a talented Canadian it would either have to work as good or in this case better than the original part it's replacing.

#43 7 years ago

I agree that this would be a great mod to replace that Stupid head.
I'm in!

Bump for cool mod idea, someone get it done, I hate that barn walker head, I can never get reliable hits off it.

Any word on how this project is coming along?

You could go with a fence of sorts.
