Thanks

#3 8 years ago

Thanks

I need to learn the rules a little

#4 8 years ago

Search my post history and find the dead flip video. Really good. It includes Lyman and Gary playing the game.

#5 8 years ago

Just get it. You can't learn the rules and nuances until you play it in all its glory!

Best Stern pin all around so far imho, and I have some really good ones.

Those are the lights on premium ?

Really like the light show

Great Vid,
Makes me wanna dump my Pro for a Prem

BTW have you done any mods to the PF regarding thicker top post sleeve & outlane drains etc,

Dump the pro for the premium. If you level it just right you won't have drains from the pops, unlike Ac/dc!

Happy to help. Enjoy the vid. I'm one of the few LE Canada owners and don't see it leaving my collection for 20+ years at this point (aka I never say never )

I'd say it is better than SM. Dots, next gen led light and GI coding, all the alternate sound coding options, love the two magnets, and a more funky but interesting layout. I still like SM and if I can will add one to my collection in the future when I have the opportunity. I'm not endeared to any one of the many SM themes available (ymmv), so imo SM should be easier to find down the line. Something to consider. Cheers.

Hmmm, based on how much i play them, and SM sits right next to it, TWD is better.

It's really hard to explain, its one of those pins I loved from day one despite the initial naysayers but there are infinite number of ways to play it and its unlike anything else out there.

Maybe that's the best way to explain it. SM is similar to other pins like ST and Ac/dc from a layout standpoint but TWD is unique and Lyman just freaking crushed it out of the park.

I love SM for a game or two, but that's it. More of a woodchopper.

Thanks guys

I love Spider-Man but TWD dead is Lymans coding masterpiece. It used to be Metallica and before that I might have voted for Spider-Man. The layout in Spider-Man is a bit better and there is a ton to do. But TWD is in its own class for the code and the walker bombs on the premium really adds to the strategy.

#17 8 years ago

Here is a link to my last Twitch stream where I played TWD Premium. I have a LOT of mods applied to this machine as well. I didn't have any spectacular games, but I did break down some aspects of the gameplay.

#18 8 years ago

Thank you sir !

#20 8 years ago

Looks like a great game

If sm would have been pro priced
I would have bought one but grrrr

TWD looks more like a premium then Smve with the features toys
And color changing LEDs

Thanks for the info guys

#21 8 years ago

Premium/LE can't go wrong...Great machine, Had mine for over year and still gets the most play.

#22 8 years ago

That is a really nice video McsirTuna.

Thanks all

I would echo some other thoughts in this thread, I've owned many Sterns over the years and still own METLE.... TWD is my favorite Stern to date. And, it might just be my favorite all time game. Its for sure hands down the only game I've played so much for so long (without ever get bored of the game). I play it all the time still, first game I turn on most of the time.

#24 8 years ago

I just fired up my SM and Ac/dc for a few games after playing my TWDLE.

The other two are just fillers now. A lot of fun to play and great pins in their own right but TWD is Stern's best pin imo, Borg and Lyman just made it perfect.

SM is too easy and Ac/dc is too much like SM but both are great too.

There are times I think I should just sell everything else except TWDLE, because I don't want the rest to become dust collectors.

Too bad the layout on twd couldn't match the code.

I played a TWD LE at league the other day, was really looking forward to it. Watching the magnet in front of the prison grab the ball, hold it, and then fling it straight down the middle was weak.

It soured me on the game to be honest.

Why have they left it like that? Do you owners like that?

#27 8 years ago

Most recent code does not cause mine to send balls down the middle. Did they have it updated?

You played one with old code. I'll admit, my TWD with 1.56 code does that EVERY once in a while, but not constantly like the old code did (pre-1.41).

Honestly, I don't think I have *ever* had the ball drain off the prison magnet on mine. Never.

It happens from time to time on about every premium or pro i've seen. I guess you got the lucky magnet core that only flings the ball to the side.

#31 8 years ago

Since 1.56, magnet action double pulses the ball release, making a stdm really rare.

What is wrong with the layout ? I really enjoy it . Is it because its not the same old fan layout that almost every pin after afm has? Twd plays faster and flows just as well as my met .

If it drops, you can easily save it.

Twd definitely needs to be set up super good to fully enjoy . I have ovef 400 games on mine in 3 weeks and im still tweaking it here and there. I dont have any issues out of the pops but every now and then the prison magnet will be a dick and drop in down the middle . I probably cld save it but its ok thats pinball. Its no different then sparky on met flinging it down the left outlane or middle occasionally. Thats what you get when you introduce a electro magnet and a steal ball lol.

Count me as a "lucky" magnet core owner too. Last time sdtm was happening to me was a year ago when I bought the game. The code releases since then have made it a non issue for mine. Always kicks off to one side or the other. Always.

Mine rarely comes down middle.

#37 8 years ago

after v1.56 my prison magnet still 95% comes straight down the middle, so my question is: Is there anyway the magnet can be turned slightly to throw off the pulse from SDTM?

#38 8 years ago

Mine rarely comes down the middle too.

I know I'm in the minority here but the layout to me is phenomenal, it's unique and difficult, I guess that's why i loved it from day one.

You are absolutely NOT in the minority.

#40 8 years ago

Where are things at here on pulsing the magnet? Some say it is real, others not. I hit the flippers to do that and I rarely ever get stdm dangerousness. If I just let the machine sit there and run its animation it before releasing the ball the pulse is weak and usually vertical or near vertical so the result is a dangerously near stdm.

It's clunky at best. Too many shots lead the ball to the orbit and that area is very awkward. Left ramp even with tweaking is marginal at best. Great code don't get me wrong but far from a satisfying game to flip on. I can see why many people like it, I'm just the kinda guy that prefers more of a flow based layout.

#42 8 years ago

I like clunky and awkward if that's what you want to call it.

The shots are extremely satisfying and fun to flip on.

SM has better flow if that's your cup of tea but it gets boring after a few plays. The shots aren't what I'd call satisfying because they are easy.

Fun for a few games, that's about it, and maybe better on location, not HUO

#43 8 years ago

Combo shots are some of the best on any pin.

Extremely "satisfying"

It definitely has tight shots so I cld see how it cld feel clunky if you miss alot . But when your on the game plays very well imo. I know its not for everyone but im a sucker for brutal pins lol. I have mine dialed in pretty well considering how it was when I first got it .

Everyone misses shots. The best players in the world miss their fair share too. It's what the ball hits when you miss to me that defines a clunky game. Games like metallica, ACDC and even more recently GoT have stand up targets that reduce the "clunkiness" of a missed shot where as TWD has a bunch up exposed post sleeves. That's the major design flaw to me of the layout.

O my I wldnt want any standups on twd its brutal enough lol. The standups on my met if hit directly rebound the ball super evil fast lol.

How about my WPT and that drop fest

I do see what you are saying with the posts and clunky. You can have some clunky shitty games when you are missing shots.

I like the difficulty and randomness versus be able to hit the same ramp shot 100 times

When you aren't clunking shots on TWD it's a beautiful thing

Is your game steep enough? perhaps a little steeper and the ball will hang (during animation) on the lowerside of the magnet instead of dead center? Then when the pulses start, it will have more movement.

I do have my game set slightly steeper then the level bubble being in dead center, the bubble is a little more towards to top line of the bubble (forward) rather then towards the bottom line (near shooter rod).
