I finally got a chance to play an LE last night at a host's house in my local league, and I did not experience ANY drains SDTM from the pop bumpers. Curiously, I did get some SDTM drops from the Prison magnet, which I did not experience on the Pro model that I recently played on location, so I suspect the machine may have been running dated code.

FWIW, the pin Rob is referring to is Jim Belsito's pin at Lake Alice Trading Company in Riverside, California. I understand they use it all the time in league play, and that's a pretty competitive league with several top players. Nevertheless, I can confirm that, at least a couple of months ago, it drained SDTM from the pops way too frequently. Rob and I played it together one night, and we counted 7 out of 9 balls out of the pops go SDTM. It occurred so frequently that we eventually stopped counting and moved on to other nearby machines (e.g., METLE, WH2O). Very frustrating. However, I played an LE a few weeks ago in my local league, and I didn't experience any problems with drains from the pops. Just a couple of drains SDTM from the prison magnet, but I think it was running older code. Totally different experience, to say the least.
