I actually don't mind the red DMD given the theme.
Of course the ColorDMD would be great. However, I can't imagine TWD without a shaker motor. How can you fight zombies without a little rumble?

I'm with you there. It has the best theme integration of the shaker that I have experienced. And when you get to Horde...???!!!
Quoted from chuckwurt:Good call. The shaker is great on this game.
The Shaker sounds fun. I definitely need to look into that.
Agree with a lot of the above
First mods would be
Colordmd
Shaker
External active subwoofer
Cleland audio mod
The Crate
White silicon rubbers (I really dislike black rubbers)
Invisiglass
And for topping it off prison tower and fish tank mod

ColorDMD - Should I be looking for LCD or LED? Saw them on ColorDMD.com and they are so much more expensive than I thought they would be.
Shaker - Any links or retailers I need to be looking for this at?
External Subwoofer - Is everyone just using regular consumer audio subwoofers or do pinballs have ones designed just for them?
Cleland Audio Mod - Got this installed a few days ago and sounds incredible.
The Crate - This is definitely on my wish list!
White Silicon Rubbers - Are these pretty easy to replace?
Invisglass - You're not the first person to mention new glass. Defintiely will check it out.
Fish Tank - I want that soooo bad. Last one I saw for sale was like $500 though!

Personal preference on the ColorDMD, I believe the majority would go LCD from my non-official POV of all I’ve read. I had a LCD in my TWD and liked it.
You can buy directly from Stern I believe but I suspect others would recommend Marco or Pinballlife as a couple of other good places to buy from.
Sub wise, Polk PSW10 are quite popular in the pinball community. Can be found used for $50-$75 usually... I’ve owned three and never paid more than $75 for one.
Updating the rubbers on a TWD is pretty straight forward, the two ramps are pretty easy to remove and work around. I swapped all the rubbers on mine and don’t really recall any trouble spots.
I have Stern’s version of Invisglass on my Deadpool and it does look great... it wouldn’t be where I’d spend extra money mins you. If I were stack ranking things to add to your TWD I’d go ColorDMD, then Shaker... I would pass on the rest though... you will get pennies on the dollar for anything else you add beyond invisiglass... id recommend getting the game first and putting some miles on it before littering it with stuff...
And if you ever see the fish tank topper again for $500 buy it, it sells for 2 or 3 times that these days.

What are those guards on the side that surround the flipper buttons and go up the side? Assuming the purpose is both decorative and to protect that area? Where did you buy them? I have a Pro that I just purchased (my first pin) and may need to look into these. I've seen another design too that looked good.
Quoted from EEE:Nice to see you coming out of a long hiatus! We met when you sold a friend the FT and T2. I picked up a pro recently and went with the option of a flipper rubber on the metal wire guide where the ball exits the pops.
I did the same flipper but added a Orin’s at the bottom of the ramp post.helps a lot

Go to Pinball Life. Button guard side rails. Cabinet parts, it fits your game.

I've always disliked the LCDs, LED is the look I would go for. If colorDMD is too expensive, look into PIN2DMD, there is a person working on the colorisation for TWD, might be a couple of months away, but much less expensive than ColorDMD.
PIN2DMD in progress can be seen here https://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/4647-the-walking-dead-wip/

ColourDMD LCD in all mine. You get the choice. You can scan, hi res, dots, dots xl. Choices
Stern works well.
Any powered sub you guys often use the Polk one.
Crate is great
I use Translucent Titans
PDI is best but yes lots of choice on glass now. Once you do one it becomes a must and has risen up on my mod priorities
Fish tank is best but whoa so expensive at the moment.
So many other mods.....go beserk mate.

It has a NIB uninstalled Stern aquarium topper and an uninstalled shaker motor. It also has a number of plastic playfield signs that Stern apparently sold separately which are also uninstalled. I plan to play the game for a bit and see if I like it and then decide whether its a keeper or a flipper. My question is should I install the topper and shaker or hold them off to sell separately in the event I don't keep it? Or does it even matter one way or the other?

I'd say just install the shaker, it's a generic part and will enhance the gameplay anyway. The topper maybe decide first if you want to keep the machine since it would be a bit more valuable (maybe not massively) NIB. I bought my topper secondhand and still paid plenty, would owe me $750 (deducting a few extra mods thrown in).
Incidentally, I would be amazed if you don't like it. If there's ever going to be a game to buy without trying (Something I don't do a lot myself with few exceptions), this is probably one of the safest bets.

Topper prices are ridiculous right now and yours is a great one and hard to find. I bet if you list it for $3500 your FS thread will blow up with complaints and it will sell within a week for $2k.

LOL!! That's hilarious! I just might try that!!
Just joined the club. HUO Pro. Been busy working on the pop bumpers. Took the dremel to the ring, put a rounded notch so it’s can’t hit the mini post anymore.
Added pop bumpers caps with light rings as well. There is enough blood red in the game, needed some infection yellow.
Used a picture of my friends altered ring, forgot to take a picture of mine.

You did well, it has been sitting around just waiting for you to find it. I'd have to guess there aren't too many more of those left lying around.
Pro owners. Had anyone filled the void under the bicycle girl ramp? Seems like it is a good spot for a toy, like maybe the macfarlane bicycle girl (have to make some cuts to fit). Or maybe just add the a static bicycle girl head from the LE?

Nice! Those look so much better on a game than they did in a box in a drawer at my place! This reminds me I need to get going on making a frame for the matching translite, it is amazing too.

I just ordered the same set for mine. Wife wanted me to get a translite that wasn’t as scary for my little one.

I just received my pro as well, years after I sold my LE. What can I say, I missed blasting zombies as well.
I’m wanting to know the same question and was wanting to put the Todd McFarlane BG figure under the ramps as well. I do recall someone did that to their pro pin, but I can’t seem to locate the pic. I saw they have a BG flash drive on eBay as well, but 45 bucks. Yikes!

Congrats on your new purchase.
What mods did you order for it?
I ordered the train track mods (RR tracks and crossing sign combo) from Cointakers, but as soon as I placed the order and cash was accepted, they sent me an email the next day it was on back order. I wonder why they just didn’t say “Out of Stock” on their web site instead?
Anyways, just a heads up. Shaker is pretty awesome in this game.

I was thinking about getting the train tracks so thanks for the heads up. I ordered the fish tank and The Crate mod. I also got the comic alternate translite so my kid doesn’t get so spooked out. Next will be a Color DMD and maybe Pinstadiums.

Definitely get the color dmd/lcd. Kinda pricey, but it adds an extra dimension to the game. Plus it really makes the great animations “pop” even better.
My LE like, like many others, has some pretty good divots under the bicycle girl ramp. I had put some of those rubber cabinet bumpers under it and it was shooting smooth. Because I knew they were there, it bothered me and I bought a Cliffy protector for under the ramp. I removed the mylar I had put there and filled the divots with wood filler, then installed the cliffy plate.
After the cliffy install, I had occasional air balls that I never had before. I thought maybe to build up in front of the cliffy some mylar to smooth the transition and it was much worse, air balls flying everywhere. I removed the mylar transition to the plate and then removed the rubber bumpers under the ramp. No good. Worse than before. I reinstalled the bumpers under the ramp and it's working pretty well but not as well as before I put on the Cliffy protector.
I'm now thinking of removing the cliffy protector and just going back to how it was with the divots on the playfied.
I read earlier threads where people messed around with the ramp and the cliffy, but have people just said not to use the Cliffy. Anyone else have problems getting it to allow smooth ramp shots?
Quoted from EEE:possible to open up the game code roms to allow a direct jump to the Horde wizard mode.
Possible, yes. Practical, no. You would need a coder dedicated to working on Whitestar/SAM. oga83 soren or pinball_keefer could probably provide more insight on what would be required.
Fish Tank for the pro on the cheap. Blueray season 3 fish tank. Took the tops off some green flashers, added own wiring. Drilled a couple holes, little glue and done. Used the second fish tank lid to cover the wiring.
Also added the 4th flasher to the fish tank, used a white flasher and put behind the heads. Wasn’t necessary but the code already supports it.
