Sold my TAF and choose my next pin to be a TWD pro. Did think about Iron Maiden but TWD is a Great pin of my favorite TVseries. Can play if for a year and still get a Iron Maiden down the road if I want.

Have an appointment setup for tomorrow evening. Let’s hope it’s a successful one . It’s a ex routed one but appears to look good, on pictures anyway. Besides shooterlane and some minor damage on the head. Price is decent enough and they rarely are for sale over here.

Main items to check are prison and well walker i guess ?

Did you try reorienting the magnet? I turned mine about a 1/4 turn one direction and it caused the pulse to start going sideways again.

I tried doing that with mine because I was having the same issue, but I couldn't break loose the lock nut. I gave up.

Quoted from Rensh:

my next pin to be a TWD pro.

Good luck on picking up this great pin! I just picked this game up a few weeks ago after selling my Spiderman VE, this is officially my wife's favorite pin since she is a huge fan of the TV show and with the new update/TV show call out code located here on pinside, a keeper for sure. Highly recommend Flipper Fidelity Speaker kit with the 10" sub once you acquire your pin, hitting the well walker on my pin now sounds like you are hitting a 50 gallon drum!

Make sure to check out the prison doors and of course the plastics.

#6605 5 years ago
Quoted from chuckwurt:

Honestly it doesn’t matter when you do it. Hitting both flippers at the same time will pulse the magnet. Where it will go is a game by game thing.

Yeah this is what I kinda figured. But I swear there are multiple posts that say it has to be done during a specific scene in the DMD animation. Basicly you double flip so you don’t have to sit through the full animation and it pulses the magnet. Most times that isn’t SDTM but sometimes it still is. So I double flip and nudge at same time and this seems to solve the problem 99% of the time.

It still seems weird to me that they didn’t make this magnet automatically pulse in the same way that the TOTAN genie magnet or the Sparkey magnet on Met do. They always sling the ball around randomly. Yes sometimes it’s SDTM. But with TWD it is always always SDTM on my game if you don’t actively do something about it.

Oh well your supposed to be fighting zombies so for people on pinside it’s no big deal. But if you want regular people to walk up to a pin and enjoy playing it seems like a turn off.

#6606 5 years ago
Quoted from rawbars:

It still seems weird to me that they didn’t make this magnet automatically pulse in the same way that the TOTAN genie magnet or the Sparkey magnet on Met do.

I’ve played multiple TOTANs and METs that have magnets that sling the ball SDTM. Not all magnets are created equal it seems and are very temperamental. One of the reasons why I’m not too salty when they aren’t in a game. Haha

#6607 5 years ago

To be fair I have only played the TOTAN I owned and the MET I owned. And they both had nice magnet action all over the place. Even the Well Walker magnet on my TWD has consistently random action. But not my Prison magnet. If I sit there and watch the animation play out and do nothing it fires it SDTM every time. But like I said, to most of us it really doesn’t matter, this is still my favorite pin to date.

#6608 5 years ago

I own TOTAN,MET, and TWD premium. Only the prison magnet out of those 3 games goes SDTM. Timing on a flip most of the time avoids it, if you don't, it is a shot between the flippers every time, only on TWD. I do love the game, though.

#6609 5 years ago
Quoted from HIPPY:

I recently joined the club. This SDTM from the Prison magnet frustrated the heck out of me, but I now start giving the game a slight side-to-side wiggle before the ball is released and this sends it off to the side and is usually easy to gain control again.

:party:So I joined the club today . Played some games at sellers house, all great. Price was decent so took it home. Played 2 games at home and guess what, the hinge of the wall walker broke

Did a quick survey on the usual shops but no luck. Anyone has a partnumber which makes it easier to search? The manual of Stern is the usual rubbish ....

Nice start of a new relation with a pinball. Its already frustrating and I havent hardly played it yet

I’m sure you can get a direct from Stern

Found the partnumber. Contacted local stern distributor. To be cntd. If I find one I will get two for safety

aside from being a ball trap, wouldn't it play just fine w/o Mr. Ugly there?

#6614 5 years ago

No Chuck... did not touch the magnet
But ok, i dont mean its a direction problem, as sometimes ball goes wide, sometimes it goes SDTM
And im ok to also admit that is simply part of playing pinball
But again, TWD so hard (mine set up from factory, with sensitive tilt) than may be it would be nice to just get that added small ball saver
Of course i could slap too (and even better make a slide slave)... but...
And also, again, because my son and i we re good players (still round the 400 spots at ifpa), my son having beaten LMS, even with that magnet (lol)

Bah

Yes. It is playable, purely cosmetics. Will visit a local hardware store to see if I can make something as it is after all just a hinge.

So, is there consensus on the must have mods?

Thinking about

Shaker
Convolux red set (or better to use red leds?)
Cleland sound mix (already installed)
.....

Colordmd not on the list yet, find the red dmd quite fitting, perhaps as a Christmas present for myself

ColorDMD is the best mod for this game. Its a game changer!

#6620 5 years ago

Shaker is a must.
Also i changed the LEDs to Yellow, red and warm white. It'll change the whole ambiance...

shaker, comes alive during Horde

#6622 5 years ago

There is a new company in the Northwest, PinGravings, that makes a great set of cards for TWD and other pins. They are laser engraved and hand painted wood that fit the theme great! I got a set at NWPAS. Highly recommended mod!

Are there already mounting holes in the cab, or would I have to drill them?

And does the game require new software to run shaker?

#6628 5 years ago

You will prob have to drill holes.

No software changes.

If it is your first install, just buy a stern kit. It has the board, hole template, t-nuts, instructions and it works. Make sure you order a SAM kit not a Spike kit.

Install takes 15 minutes.

#6629 5 years ago

My PRO from October 2017 was already drilled and ready for the shaker install. 10-15 minutes tops to install it. Super simple.

Unless its a very early game the holes will be there.

Mine is October 2014 Built date and has already the predrilled holes. And October 2014 was also launch date if I am not mistaken.

Holes are already in cabinet on left side ready to accept bolts that come with shaker. Plug in and go into feature adjustment #149 check settings. Think that it.

Is anyone running a coin taker red tremor shaker? Mine is crazy strong. Just ordered a small pot board to tune it down. Wondering if it is always like that.

I have a red tremor in my MET, and it shook like crazy until I installed a motor speed controller.

Yes it is. Those are way too much. Just get the standard stern one or PBL. They are fine.

I may get a biased answer here, but as I await my iron maiden pro to come into stock, I have the option to get a walking dead premium (for more money of course). What do you guys think is the better game? Honestly.

I have both games (TWDLE and IMDN Pro) and that's a really tough question as they are my 2 favorite games of all time. Out of the box I think IMDN is the better game. Artwork is better, better callouts, better layout, etc. TWD you need to mod the left ramp to make it smooth, you have to also install an aftermarket sound package to get better callouts and music (I like RandomKG's NIN/Radiohead mix with the Cleland callouts), you also need a colorDMD to really get the most out of the display. I think TWD has a slight edge on software but IMDN is no slouch. It just seems like there is a bit more depth to TWD and there are more toys on the playfield.-it's also a Premium vs. a Pro. The smart thing may be to get the TWD now since they aren't being made and may be harder to find vs. IMDN which will likely be running for years' to come. Overall I still think I like IMDN Pro a slight bit more but that could also be because of the honeymoon phase. I guess I'll know for sure in another 6 months to a year.

If the question were IMDN Premium vs. TWD Premium I'd lean towards TWD just because it's a better value. Pro is where the value is at on IMDN as I don't really like the features (or maintenance and hassle) that the Premium adds.

Get #the_walking_dead_le now and get the Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (Pro) in a few months when all the bugs are fixed and you know more about the gameplay and any issues that have come up.

#6641 5 years ago

I absolutely loved Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (Pro) when I played it. I've been considering buying one even though Im not a huge fan of the band I liked it that much. However, I think #the_walking_dead_le is one of the best games around. The ruleset is amazing and deep, and its a challenging machine. I never get bored of playing it. Getting to horde with the shaker, sounds and lights pulsing...you can feel the game sucking you in and it actually feels like a fight for your life. I dont think you can go wrong with either one. IMHO, TWD is a better pin (as of right now...who knows how IMDN will change yet, it took years for TWD to get as good as it is now).

I made the same choice last week. Was between twd pro and imdn pro and I choose for the twd. Better theme for me and I really like the pin. TWD is also out of production and imdn for years still in production. So choose for an used twd and if I get bored of it I can still sell it in a year, hopefully have only minor loss and get a imdn pro used. Plenty of those will be available than.

#6643 5 years ago

I’ve owned my pro now for close to 3 weeks and finally made it to horde tonight! What a rush it was!! That is a seriously cool mode. This game is staying with me for the long haul

#6644 5 years ago

Thanks for the info on shakers y’all. Will check to see if I have pre drilled holes when I’m home and go from there.

#6645 5 years ago
Quoted from Pale_Purple:

Will check to see if I have pre drilled holes

I bought Cointakers "Normal" shaker for my Iron Man, shakes my space shuttle pin next to it big time. They recommended me to NOT buy the red tremor for that pin, shaker is used a lot in that game. I did not have pre-drilled holes in my Iron man, but cointaker's shaker came with sheet of paper to mark the holes. Looked up installation on youtube, and wamo, it all worked! For my walking dead, I put in Flipper Fidelity's Speaker kit with the 10" sub and couldn't be happier. That sub shakes the pin just enough, especially when you hit the well walker so it's a nice trade off.

#6646 5 years ago

FWIW Red Tremor is fine for TWD if you use the additional pwm controller board to turn it down. you get full control of the shaker intensitity.
Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UURDBQ8/ref=dp_prsubs_1

or you can just install the pinball life shaker.
