Nice work, love the EMs! You've accumulated quite the collection. What you've got would probably be a good reflection of what I'd have at home were I to have a home collection. Love vids and EMs.

    I turned 18 last month, here's my progress - https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-pinball-location-in-avon-ohio-level-two-games

Nice lineup. Cool to see the Konamis next to each other. What was the driver next to the Taito driver?

    #5 7 years ago

I don't even know anyone your age but I can guarantee you're cooler than ALL of your friends

    #6 7 years ago

I think he's also cooler than all of my friends. Happy Birthday.

I have Taito Chase H.Q., Taito Continental Circuit, and Taito Double Axle. (Probably the one you are talking about) Wasn't seeking out Taito drivers, just kind of ended up that way.

Also, those cabinets next to each other are actually Williams cabinets converted to those games. Everybody in the arcade scene deconverts most conversions back to the originals (trashing most of the artwork) as soon as they get them, figure I'd preserve them since they're fun games. I also really like the shape so I seeked those out generally a little bit. Life Force is a very rare game and the guy who sold me the cabinet sold the board for a quicker sale, so right now I'm running a Taito Superman board in it and built my own pinout converter to do so. Been running great for about over a year, that game took a lot of work to get running as the monitor and such was awful before repair.

Wait. Are you 18 years old or 18 years in the hobby? (holy crap, I'm impressed)

18 years old, been collecting arcade machines since September 2014 and collecting pinball since January 2015, self-taught myself repair across EM and SS from the internet and whatnot

holy shit dude! more power to you, congratulations and happy birthday

    #11 7 years ago

Wow, that's a pretty extensive collection. How you have money or space for this is a miracle! Very jealous of all the Nintendo cabs as well.

Also, real great that you're able to have a cool hobby where you're learning about electronics. Hopefully this will launch you into a sweet technical career!

Thanks! We had extra space filled with old junk from decades ago so as long as I cleaned it all out, I was able to use the space since we obviously weren't using it besides for storage for things we didn't really need to store anymore anyways that haven't been touched in years.

I am able to afford this on my tight budget by picking up mostly projects or having to score great deals (some people love great deals because they save some money compared to asking price, but for me it's either great deals or I don't get the game at all haha so I keep on the lookout), most of these were purchased non-working. I have never paid more than $500 for a single game, which is Comet (mint, bought working too), then $400 for the Devil's Dare (close to fully working), and then the list goes down from there! Very grateful!

I like EM's because usually it's all there if you bought the game complete (rather than having to order sometimes expensive SS parts that go bad over time), you just have to figure out what's wrong by searching around with your mind and your hands. Like a scavenger hunt. I did that with my Gottlieb Airport, the two units I rebuild can be seen in a picture up there (they're brown), they were both badly seized and the game hadn't been played in probably years upon years but I got it running like a dream without spending a dime besides what I paid for it! Shipping is killer in this hobby even for one item so it's nice when I don't need to order anything.

Happy B-day dude....cool shit....and I hope your Dad is a very proud man.......keep up the good work.....people these days dismiss a lot of "kids" your age..."all they do is internet and ipad".....and yet here is a young man that used those tools to do something amazing...!!!... ....................Joey

    Happy Birthday! and great collection.

    #15 7 years ago

    Thanks all!

If you'd like to watch me push my limits of this stuff you can see the beginning of my rare 1963 Bally Star-Jet restoration that was ripped apart and cut up for a part out (was previously working) and I scooped up all the parts and saved it before it was too late, but it's going to be a lot of work but the end result will be great:

Impressive collection. Can't imagine what your collection will be like when you turn 38!

    #19 7 years ago

Happy birthday! I am impressed too!

    #20 7 years ago

Congrats, I have seen and read many of your posts here and on KLOV. Happy Birthday. very nice collection and looks like you have a decent space to work on them as well.

    #21 7 years ago

Happy Birthday and great collection (or greta for us old timers). You're moving along pretty fast, don't burn yourself out.

    #22 7 years ago
    Quoted from Taxman:

You're moving along pretty fast, don't burn yourself out.

I think my life prevents that. I live in an apartment in PA so my games stay in NJ (grandma's house/second home since we visit and stay a lot, although she stays elsewhere at times, etc. etc.) just enough to be too far away to visit if I want to play some games.

Usually my mom and I go on weekends when we're not busy but I don't know when the last time I played one of my machines on a Wednesday for instance was. Talk about hell, especially in the middle of a tricky repair and you've found the answer online!

Did bring my Domino home for a while as it's closer to Pinfest here so I did rack up a few games with a shirt stuffed between the bells, still a little loud for these thin walls though so it has to be timed right to be respectful.

    #23 7 years ago

    Wow! Barely legal!

You know you are young when your fake Led Zep 70s tour t-shirt is still older than you!

Nice collection, and nice to see that a younger collector has more respect for the classic games and the history of pinball than most of the hobbyists thrice his age.

    #24 7 years ago

Happy Birthday! Now you just need an auto-updating profile image to keep up with your age (and collection size).

    #25 7 years ago

Oh, and I just got back from a local arcade out celebrating alone for my birthday until my family gets home from work. Usually play a ton of Silverball Mania there (wish I could afford one) and occasionally I'll pop on another game for a one-off and noticed they got a South Park. Still had the old pricing card with 50c/1 play, $1/3 plays so I gave it a shot and popped 4 tokens in and it was still setup that way, nice.

Usually really don't like DMD games at all besides a few (I usually end up walking away at any place on free play (shows, homes, businesses, etc.), I like quick, fast, hard, understandable games which is why I also probably gravitate towards what I do) and I've heard the negative reviews about this game but I actually had a lot of fun on it. The complaint is that it's too simple and boring, maybe that's just why I like it. Wasn't sure I'd ever see the day! Pretty sure I still had no clue what I was doing, but it was fun! Love the artwork and sounds, pretty sure the theme did a lot for me. Still a EM and SS guy through and through by all means, but maybe one day some more extensive saving up will need to be done.

    #26 7 years ago

    Thanks everybody!

    #27 7 years ago

Already a hoarder at 18... Nice job, and Happy B-Day!

    #28 7 years ago

Happy birthday! Did you get all these with money from your paper route?

    #29 7 years ago

I would fully understand if you never move out of your parents basement.

    Happy B-day!
