Wondering if anyone has used tumblers to polish parts. Really want a different design with a larger capacity. My 5lb. harbor freight vibrator (POS!!), which doesn’t have that many miles on it, just took a dump.

Vibrators reach the "End Results" Faster.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Tumblers really don’t get up to any speed.

Buddy has a tumbler, I use the shaker. Mine get done in like 8-12 hours but they are not perfect. He runs his for a week and can get used balls back to mirrors

Recommended. Reasonably quiet, good results in 24 hrs, great results in 48.

This forum discusses a lot of tumbler options:

I bought a Harbor Freight ultrasonic machine. I learned that it's a clone of a popular ultrasonic machine sold on Amazon. If you buy the Harbor Freight ultrasonic machine, or the original on Amazon, buy this basket:

For the ultrasonic machine, I use Simple Green purple degreaser formula with great results. Buy a gallon of water and pour it out. Add 20oz of purple power, fill the rest of the container with water. Strong smell when using the ultrasonic, so use in the garage.

I bought this tumbler, but I've only used it once.

For bedding, don't buy the stuff advertised for cleaning ammo. Buy reptile bedding. Same media, just marketed for pets, and cheaper.

Buy this strainer, pour the contents of your tumbler into it to filter out the parts from the media.

Is it only the cover that was damaged? Or is the motor shot?

You might be able to get a replacement cover from the manufacturer.

Nice! All this time, I've been using fishing line to pull up the tiny basket plate that originally came with my cleaner. An actual basket with handles above the water line would be so much easier.

Going to repair for now but looking for other options. Digging the larger capacity tumblers for my bigger parts.

If polishing is something you are going to do on an ongoing basis, you might consider one of the Thumler vibratory tumblers. Not cheap to buy, but they work great and will last basically forever; my wife and I have used the UV-10 model for a variety of jobs, and it’s just a fantastic tool. In addition, they are U.S. made, haven’t undergone any design changes in probably 40 years, and virtually every part is replaceable and readily available.
