I have found the solution, took the batteries out with machine off so the game was 'reset' as a few folks had said and that has fixed the issue.
Lost my high scores etc but at least the game is now working again.
What an odd issue and fix....
Well he was right! I pulled the battery on mine and they all started working again. I lost my scores and settings, but now the game works. Thanks to the person that recommended pulling the battery.
