I have had issues like this where the solution was either (1) the switch wire needed to be adjusted or (2) the cherry microswitch was just old or sticky and needed to be cleaned or replaced. In my cases it was the same deal - worked with in test mode but not gameplay. When the ball rolls over it’s different than when you press with finger. You can try putting a ball on the end of a magnet wand and pull it over switches manually to get a more realistic test, but even then the speed isn’t the same. It does seem odd that it is so many switches, though. In my case it was just a couple.

Quoted from jrawlinson_2000:

Thanks for the help.
I have found the solution, took the batteries out with machine off so the game was 'reset' as a few folks had said and that has fixed the issue.
Lost my high scores etc but at least the game is now working again.
What an odd issue and fix....

That is odd - I don’t understand how that could fix it. Root cause could be something else and somehow by messing around the cpu board it resolved. But glad your machine is working now.
