where is the opto for the tv? and do i have to remove the upper playfield to get to the opto in the garage
Quoted from kiter67:where is the opto for the tv?
There are no optos for the TV. It's a rollover switch. You can see it to the left of the flipper in this pic:

You have to raise the upper playfield, but again, optos are not what you will be looking for. There's a switch under there with a forked actuator (the shiny part that moves on the switch). To raise the upper playfield, remove the two large black thumb nuts in the front of the playfield. Also be sure to remove the thumb nut in back of the upper playfield (or you won't be able to raise it). The lower playfield needs to be slid out to access that nut. Once you get the thumb nuts and washers removed, raise the upper playfield. No need to disconnect any harnesses. Just raise it up so you can get under it. Then turn the game on, put it in switch test and see if they work. Both may just need adjusting, or they may need to be replaced.
Quoted from kiter67:i also notice that a buzz is coming from that area
Get in there and find out exactly what's buzzing. Could be a locked on coil.

Good luck with the repair.

How do you go about adjusting the forked actuator? I can hear the ball go into the hole, but then it does nothing until the game pops it out while going through a ball search. Any help is appreciated

Go I to switch test and push it with your hand. Does it register? If so, put a ball onto it. Does it register? If it works with your hand but not with the ball you can adjust it by bending the metal so the ball triggers it. If it doesn't register with your hand in the first place your issue lies elsewhere such as bad switch, wire came off, bad diode, bad board.
Kiter:
I had the ball hang up in the garage as well. When you have the upper playfield up or off, look at the entrance of the ramp behind the garage door leading down the VUK. There are side protectors at the entrance on both sides. Place the ball through there and see if there is sufficient room for the ball to pass through. On mine, I noticed that the left side did not lay flush up against the ramp wall. the ball was getting squeezed and held at the entrance of the ramp between the two protectors. Ball search would ultimately free it.
I removed the left side protector and reamed out the screw hole to allow the protector to sit flush against the ramp wall. No hangups since.
Your mileage may vary.

The TV comes off easy. I think its a cable and 1 screw. You may be able to get a small screwdriver in there as I think you may just have a stuck switch.
If you go into diagnostics and switch test you can check this before you do anything. Should be an easy fix.

Got it. I did the tests, luckily I just needed to adjust the forks a bit. Pretty easy adjustment. Thanks.

I have problem #2 from the original post
..is the protector your talking about the metal ramp part or the plastic ramp?
Can you clarify what protector is likely jamming up?
Edit found another post with details.. Ignore this
