5 days ago, with no provocation, my TSPP decided it would reset at random. I check various forums to see what I could fix/test without first running to Pinside and yelling "HELP". Well here I am. The following is what I've done:
-Tested +5V on CPU/Sound Board. Readings from 4.74-4.85.
-Re-seated ribbon cable between CPU and Driver. Worked for 2 days then began to reset again. Not a long term fix...
-Tested voltage TPL1 on Driver= 5.05V
- " TPL3= 5.05V
-Removed ribbon cable at J1 and tested pins= 5.05-5.07V
-Connected ribbon cable to J1 & removed it from CPU & tested female ends of cable= 5.05-5.07V
Now I decide to remove CPU board from cabinet to take a better look and I find a couple of questionable items.
The connector at CN2 (+12V/-12V/Ground/+5V marked "6PKK". Manual has "SND RESET SEND FIRQ&Q" marked under it located at bottom left corner) is pretty toasty. Plastic crumbled a bit when I took it off. There are 3 pictures including 1 of the backside of the board. Then I see on the back of the board some diodes?. Not sure if they are factory. There is also a hot glued cable connector at CN8.
So the question is, from the ribbon input at CN1 on the CPU/Sound board where am I losing voltage?
As always, thanks for the help.
