Has anyone installed the Gizmo form LEDOCD in their TSPP?

#1728 7 years ago

I re-read through the last pages and have ordered the LED OCD board. I just picked up a pretty nice TSPP and thus far have installed the nuke side rails and beer can mod. On the way I have a bunch more goodies for it. My wife has commented she didn't realize there would be so many extra purchases *after* the purchase of the machine. At least she also likes pinball.

Tonight's project, to make the backbox less boring.

Looks better when not playing. Even better when playing. It's nice, but for the money I should have gone for the color dmd instead.

I installed the optiflux led light board. It piggybacks off the GI/flasher/insert lights. Much better looking normal illumination behind the translite. It also add flashing and color effects. It's best seen here:

Rebuilding the playfield with new ramps, rubber, led's and cliffys as well as a few mods this weekend. I'm surprised by how dirty it is in all the hard to clean spots.

Pull the translite out, and there is a bundle of wires fed up from the playfield to the control boards in the backbox. There are quite a few connectors. After they are disconnected, feed then all down into the lower cabinet. The playfield is pretty easy to pull out then. I had another person help me, but one person could do it. I had to remove the apron and backboard, as well as a couple of bulb sockets to get it mounted up to the rotisserie.

I have the kwik-e-mart decal, it will be installed, along with a ton of other stuff.

Good progress this weekend. Playfield depopulated, cleaned, ball tracks buffed out. 4 coats of wax so far. Playfield is starting to be pieced back together. I have all new ramps. I'm waiting on the arrival of some 1/8 tubular rivets to swap the ramp flaps to the new ramps. Are there any common failure areas I should look at while the game is apart?

More reassembly on my TSPP tonight. Flipped it to do some work on the underside. I found something missing on one of the main flippers. Might explain the buzzing when holding that flipper on.

No idea on the springs. The flipper hardware all looks fairly new, I'm guessing who ever did the work thought if one spring was good, two would be better? Any though on the buzzing emminated from the machine when holding the right flipper on? It doesn't on the left side.

#1792 7 years ago

You guys nailed it. I checked all the coil stops and the one for the right flipper half way up the playfield was toast. The upper and lower flipper stuff looks pretty new. Why does that cause it to buzz?

It's getting there. Led's are installed, and new rubber. New stronger garage door solenoid. New plunger for the VUK, shooter eject and garage door as well. Up next, ramp flap install.

The rivets are 1/8 x 3/16 aluminum tubular type. I thought about using pop rivets, but they would stick up more and not look as nice. I obtained a rivet clincher from Hanson rivet and used my drill press like an arbor press. It worked really well. The star washers in the back side provide extra support for the rivet against the plastic.

Led kit from Marco, which are made by coin taker. The kit included illuminated flipper buttons, which was a nice surprise! Led OCD board. All new rubber, Cliffy protectors and post sleeves. All new ramps(will have a set of used ramps for sale soon!) I went with purple superbands for the flippers, which are a perfect fit for the game!

Next up for me will be a full restore on my BTFF. I'm going to be waiting until I get a third machine as BTTF will be apart for probably 3-4 months. There would be fighting in the house with only one pin. We played a bunch of pins today in Minneapolis, and both loved Medieval Madness and Ghostbusters LE. thoughts on which machine would pair the best with BTTF and TSPP?

#1808 7 years ago

The tv mod is on my list. I started getting a little flack about spending so much on the pinball machines. You must be making them stil Sparky?

#1816 7 years ago

I did just note the LCD isn't available for TSPP, the link I sent is for the LED DMD

The decals/stickers arrived from Sillyoldelf, and I printed some new apron cards. I haven't decided if I'm going to use the stickers on the backboard. I bought the Moe's tavern playmates set and may install that like others have.

The pinball decals.com ones aren't as nice. Message Sillyoldelf on this forum.

It's pretty badass looking on the machine.

The donut shooter rod from pinball_customs arrived. It took a little while as Brock had to make me one, but it was well worth the wait.

Homer's car is pink, Marge's Station Wagon is red.

Quoted from netman63129:

I thought that too but I watched an episode the other day and the car was red.

Quoted from JimB:

New issue just started on mine. What would cause the right side upper 2 flippers (crusty and upper mini playfield) to either not fire or delay firing? The bottom flipper is working fine.

The right flipper button move two leaf switches. Check the adjustment and clean the contacts of second one in the switch stack.
