New to pinside and now a new owner of TSPP. It arrived yesterday with 350 plays on the counter. I have to say, my first impression is that TSPP is quite addicting. I am just beginning to scratch the surface of the rules.

I paid 4,600 for mine last month and couldn't be happier. I know that doesn't add too much to the conversation without pictures.

Out of curiosity, what years/runs are these two pictures from?

Quoted from chadderack:

Marge has an orange station wagon. I think the Canyonero was only used in a single episode.

Canyonero episode was solid. Too bad there wasn't a call out/song in the pin.

Quoted from Cserold:

I'll check exact dates when I get home but the darker colors are from 2003 and I think the lighter colors are from 2004. I feel like the colors of the lighter example came out even darker/enriched in the picture than they are in real life. There is a big difference in person. Look at the purple below the car.

Cool. I didn't realize the color schemes weren't related to dates. Does the side art seem more faded in the lighter color run?

Its been a while but I got a couple of games in today. 23M on the first ball which also got two extra balls, nuclear disaster, couch multiball, three tv modes stacked and completed homers day. Then followed by three almost immediate drains. I was pretty emotionally beat on that last ball, final score around 30M. Started on pace to be my highest scoring game ever...maybe next time.

But more importantly, sorry if this is a 'noob' question. The game makes a very loud screeching noise at random times. I haven't noticed a pattern for when it occurs, but its really loud. Anyone run into this or have any suggestions?

Quoted from konghusker:

Probably the knocker sound after winning a free game. Go to settings and turn knocker on/off. I can't stand the screeching knocker sound stern uses.

Quoted from Mike_M:

Assuming you have a later build what you're hearing is probably the one instrument that can't be properly rendered with the emulated sound chip used in later builds of TSPP- mine has it.
See https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/tspp-simpsons-pinball-party-run-differences?tq=emulated+sound&tu for more details.

I think this took care of it, thanks for the help. Haven't heard it in a few games now. It was so loud and obnoxious that it deterred my wife from playing. She enjoys the game but hasn't been interested until that was fixed.

Looking for some repair advice. DMD went completely out, with an audible noise. Rest of the game and sounds continue to function normal. Fuse F1 for the display power supply board was blown. Fuse was replaced, blew, rinse and repeat. No obvious damage to the display power supply board, but I haven’t started with the multi meter. Any ideas where to start? I am green to pinball repair so I’m sorry if this is an obvious fix.

Quoted from emkay:

Can you elaborate on this? Was it a buzzing sound? A loud pop? See smoke/smell ozone?

IIRC it was a loud popping noise. No smoke or odor.

So I started troubleshooting today. I removed the display controller board to get a better look at the dot matrix PCB, found a blown capacitor next to the power wiring harness (see pictures). Now for the noob questions...

- Can I replace this cap? A quick search on dmd repair was discouraging.

- Is this cap the problem causing the blown fuse or are both the cap and fuse a symptom of something I haven’t found yet?

- If I can’t repair the DMD, what else should I investigate before replacing it, to ensure I don’t blow a brand new one?

Thanks everyone for the help
