So uh, how exactly do I remove the old chip to install the NVRAM? That sucker is stuck in there REALLY tight.

I carefully used a small butter knife to wedge it out slowly.. but i believe they do make tools for this somewhere

Curious if anyone is still making custom shooter rods. Thanks.

#6303 1 year ago

I noticed tonight that the trough eject is just rocketing the balls up. I’ve only had the game about 2 weeks but i don’t remember it being this crazy. Is there a way to lower it that i missed in the settings?

Quoted from jackd104:

Hey all. I'm thinking about changing up the looks my TSPP with custom rubber colors. Mainly flipper and/or slings, but might consider others. Right now I have the standard red and black, by the book (manual). Anyone want to share what they've done to give me ideas? I'm thinking pink might actually work, it's like the Simpson's color and there is a lot of it on the apron and PF. TIA

I went with pink on the bottom flippers, blue on the mid right, and green on the upper. They blend in well with the surrounding environment.

NVRAM swapped! Titans came in...Now for more cleaning before ready to play again. Likely going to wait on the color dmd and pinsound. Maybe I'll pick them up at TPF.
Is Blitz Wax the go to after cleaning everything?

Some people get picky about the brand of wax, but the main thing is that you get a carnuba wax - but *not* a “cleaner wax” with petroleum distillates. Refer to Vid’s cleaning/waxing thread for the nerdy details.

#6307 1 year ago

I think I still prefer red flipper rubbers on this game but I have to say the pink looks nice, I could go for that.

I DO think that this game benefits hugely from "low bounce" rubber. I put on the low bounce silicone stuff from Titan and immediately started getting new high scores. The ball is easier to control, no doubt.

I've found that I don't like to wax my games. It's just more work to put on, and as it wears away the way the game feels changes more than it does as an unwaxed playfield gets dirty. I just try to keep it clean. (There's still wax in some crevices in my TSPP, from the first owner.)

So my machine says its on 4.0. To upgrade to the latest 5.0, I need to buy the physical chip since it's a white star. Do I only need the "CPU/DISP ROM Set v5.0 from https://mattsbasementarcade.com/product/the-simpsons-pinball-party-stern-rom-upgrade-chip-set/?attribute_pa_sternoptions=cpu-disp-set-v5-0

There are a few different ones marked Sound ROM

No need to change the sound roms, just cpu and display. got mine from astlll entertainment (pinballrom.com), quick ship even though he’s north of the border.

anyone replaced their stock speakers/sub on tspp?

I went with the full pinsound kit. It came with replacement speakers and a sub. I’m also using an external sub. It sounds better but not mind blowing by any means.

Thx, i have the same in my getaway and its awesome.

I was thinking of going the cheap way and just order pyle speakers on amazon.
Just wondered if it will be bolt on

If anyone can suggest drop-in speaker replacements for the stock sound system, I would love to know. I'm not really interested in Pinsound or other ways to change the sounds, but if I can squeeze some more sound quality out of the stock sound system I'd be up for it. (I did the hum fix already so I can easily tweak cabinet/bb balance.)

I put Flipper Fidelity speakers in my ST pro, LOTR and LZ premium. I have them to put in my RUSH premium when it arrives.

The best improvement was in LOTR. I can now clearly hear all the dialog during gameplay.

What a glow up. All new Titan rubber pieces, cleaned up playfield, etc. All cosmetic work done I think. The old likely original rubber was mostly removed by cracking it with pliers. It was completely hardened and brittle so it flaked right off. Everything is so bouncy now! The Kwik E Mart drop seems to be working again after doing nothing different. Not sure, maybe was just a loose connection somewhere. Homer head was a PITA to remove. Want to print out some new info cards. The stock ones are fugly for home use.

My I&S lock still sometimes ricochets right back into the lock again, so I need to figure out how to adjust that aim I guess. All in all pretty happy with it. Debating LEDs in the future in addition to color dmd and pinsound. Depending on how fancy I wanna get I guess.

Debating LEDs in the future

I had been reluctant to go LED, but I tried Comet Warm White Frosted 2 SMD in this game and I really like how it looks. It is brighter without being obnoxiously bright, and color temperature is cooler for better color fidelity... but not so cool that things look blue and clinical.

The downside is that this game 100% needs an LEDOCD board. Without it, there is significant ghosting in gameplay and the attract mode is a flickering mess.

Another downside is that next to TSPP my other games with incandescents look absurdly yellow and gross. I'm gonna have to do them all now...

Just started my LED conversion and I'm currently working on the GI. Is the best way to access these lights underneath the ramp by entirely removing it? Or is there something simpler. First timer here

I dont remember having to pull this ramp off.. I think I pulled the socket from underneath.....Is that possible?

For those that have installed a World of Springfield Moe's tavern playset into their machine, can you please share how you mounted it and fit it around the existing brackets on the backboard?
I have one and want to mount it instead of the cloud sticker that's existing in the spot

I am thinking about getting a topper. I have seen two of them out there that I am considering...
1. The old DE topper ("Play pinball man")
2. The TiltTopper one located here https://tilttopper.com/shop/ols/products/the-simpsons-pinball-topper
Does anyone have experience with #1? How do you attach it? I just see those holes. Do I need to get something to hold it up. I've never installed a topper so I might be missing something obvious. Anybody get #2? Would l love to hear what you think about it. Seems to match the translite really well.

We have the 2nd one and it looks awesome the way it's back-lit and looks like it could have been an oem topper. It was easy plug and play insulation. You can either screw or velcro the topper in place....I used the velcro since I didn't want to drill any holes and have 0 issues with it.

I just cut mine to size.
And it is a tight fit. Not mounted with anything It doesn’t move at all.
If you have the wood blocks to wee. I just removed mine. No issues. Just stapled in.
The love machine is just velcroed for easy removal when lifting playfield

What's the difference between the LED and LCD color dmd?

#6329 1 year ago
Quoted from tectonyc:

What's the difference between the LED and LCD color dmd?

One is a grid of LEDs and the other is a laptop display showing colored dots. On the LED version you can change the appearance of the dots, to some degree. Both are good, they are just ... different.

#6330 1 year ago
Quoted from tectonyc:

What's the difference between the LED and LCD color dmd?

Led is brighter, almost too bright. There can be reflection on the glass. You are stuck with dots.

With LCD you get no reflection and option to change from dots to other forms. For TSPP LCD is the way to go. Really for any game LCD is the way to go

They are on thingiverse, anyone can print one, but you aren’t supposed to sell them unless you get permission. Unfortunately, this has become the way for many on pinside lately.

If you didn’t create it, you are taking someone else’s hard work and profiting off of it without giving credit. That is a licensed work people are selling without paying for the license. You want to use it for personal use, that’s cool. People selling it are asking $100+ for it, why not kick back $10-20 to the designer?

Creality Ender3, they are under $200 usually. Learning curve is steep, mainly on the design, but there are a ton of videos and info to help.

This is a good place to start and ask questions

Do I need to adjust the flipper leaf switches or do I just need to git gud? The left one especially, but both seem basically impossible to post or flick pass. The left one requires you to completely come off the button before it will budge back down at all.

Also does this game not have a setting to tone down the Stern missile launcher trough eject?

I agree, which is why (for me at least) all Creative Commons Attribution requirements are being followed. I did also get in touch with the original designer and did get written consent to modify his design and offer the product commercially. I also sent him a nice tip as a token of my appreciation and became friendly with him

Need some tech help, recently had a bill acceptor fry a couple resistors on its switch column, after replacement all the switches work correctly. Not sure if it’s correlated or I just noticed from digging into the game but it seems to randomly select when it wants to progress the theme music. When the ball is in the shorter lane it’s the basic intro but once the ball makes switch contact NORMALLY it would go into the full theme. Any ideas?

Thanks everyone for the overwhelming response for the Donut shooters! I just received a shipment of Stern rods today, so I’ll be making 5+ more donut shooters with in the next week or so (it’s quite a multi step process). Let me know if you like to reserve one.
