Quoted from JohnnyGee:

How do you like that topper? I'm thinking of getting the same one.

I like it. It’s a good quality looking topper. The bottom stays blue and the top dims and brightens red to make it look like fire effect. If you want more pics or a vid I can send you some.

I need some advice installing tree-house ramp Cliffy. I'm having a hard time getting to the nut underneath the ramp to hold is steady (and grab it) when loosening with screwdriver from the top. getting needle-nose in there is difficult....do I need to remove the ball-return habitrail, or is there some other trick you can guide me with? here's a picture of the two nuts I have to remove:

ahhh...you need one of these....https://www.titanpinball.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=152
I've also taped the nut to the bottom of an open end wrench, but that's more for the install....

Yes, yes I do! Thanks!

I used needle nose pliers in there. Grabbed the nut and used a screw driver on the top. Had to do some writing but I got it...

Need some tech help. This has happened 3 times since owning the machine.

I’ll turn the game on and press start. Puts a ball in the shooter lane and I plunge the ball. Ball hits the targets, pop bumpers, falls in the itchy and scratchy hole, everything and it doesn’t register any score. The ball goes into any of the holes, it won’t launch the ball out. Yet if the ball goes down to the trough, it’ll constantly keep putting a ball back into the shooter lane every time. I’ve had to do a factory reset on the machine to correct the issue.

Any ideas?

Well the ball continually popping out is because the playfield hasn't validated. There in fact doesn't seem to be any switches registering, I'd start by looking at the switch harness where it plugs into the board and reseat it. What does the game say in switch test?

Just thinking as a coder, if it felt the ball never left the trough, what you’re describing would “make sense”. If the switch in the shooter lane weren’t registering, I could see that explaining it. No need to register input from the playfield if it never left the shooter lane.

So, I’d confirm the shooter lane switch is working. What I’m afraid of is the sound effect for plunging the ball seems to be triggering.

I’m with Jahkub in that is would go into switch test and validate that things are registering. Sometimes a simple reseat will get things working again.

TSPP needs a "major" switch hit before the playfield validates. You can basically keep trying for the comic book skill shot as long as you don't hit other stand ups or the inlanes. This is what I'm seeing in the video.

#5264 3 years ago

If all the switches read as open in test (with balls in the trough) I'd suspect one of the IC sockets, maybe U206? I recently had all music go out on mine and pressing on the right chip fixed the issue for the time being.

anyone else have an issue where the Playfield shifts? I thought i needed to clean/replace my shooter, but then i realized the tip was rubbing against the auto-plunge assembly. So i physically pushed the playfield to the side and now the shooter is centered and shooting correctly. After a few plays though, the playfield moves and rubs against the shooter again. I do not have this issue with my South Park, its only happening on my TSPP.

I had this happen and to fix it I drilled a hole in one of the brackets and threaded it for a machine screw. I also drilled a hole in the part that was directly below the bracket when the playfield was centered. Problem is solved. I will post up a pic later.

Thanks I would like to see what you did. It is pretty annoying, I thought my shooter dirty or worn out, but then i realized the auto-plunge was weak and figured out what was going on.

#5268 3 years ago
Quoted from Giebzilla:

Does any one know what is the purpose of those two blocks?

On Sterns, those blocks hold the playfield in place when the head is folded and the game is flipped upright (although on Simpson's the one on the left was shorter than on the right. I believe the left side was originally shipped with a piece of rigid foam spanning the gap, and there was a note to keep the foam to move the game in the future). Still, if you have removed both wooden blocks, the playfield may fall out of position and cause damage if you set the game on its back.

Hey Guys
Thinking about picking up a TSPP...I read through some of this thread but it's a lot!!

What are things to watch out for / inspect closely when looking at one of these?
How important are cliffys?
What are the must have mods?

If there is a post or two that provides answers to these q's....would appreciate steering me in the right direction

thanks.

All of this information and more is available right here, the "right direction" is backwards (in time).

There isn’t much to watch out for. Make sure garage opens and closes properly and that the couch holds and releases balls properly. That’s really about it from a mechanical perspective.

Must have. I just put mine in, and my garage ramp was already busted. It makes the thing play so much better now. Install them day one.

Thanks. I might have to do the same. Im going to mess around with the shooter and see if its the position or something before drilling into the lockdown mech. But at least it works!

I determined that there was no positive locating on the playfield to the cabinet in this pin. It works fine with this mod now. No more shift.

Hey guys
What’s the correct flipper rebuild kit?

This one?

It comes with 1 left and 2 right...so I need to get another left and another right. Right?

I just did my very first flipper rebuild a fews ago and it was on my TSPP.

You can buy that kit and get another left & right kit for the upper playfield.
FYI, Only the LEFT & RIGHT main flippers use EOS switches.

So if you bought the above kit - you can save some money and buy the pieces separately for the Upper Playfield left & right flippers (you would have 1 spare EOS switch if done this way).

**NOTE ** The kits DO NOT come with flipper bushings, so buy 1 per flipper

For the UPPER PLAYFIELD (Left & Right W/O EOS Switches):

New owner and noticed that fuse F20 is missing on my backbox. Couldn't find any info about it online. Is it supposed to be missing? Everything works fine...

Per the manual, F20 is not used (although my machine has a fuse there). Sorry for the upside down picture I am on my phone and it won’t rotate.

Hey guys
I have a question and an observation
Question: when I shoot into the open garage, 9 times out of 10 it dribbles out and gives a cletus kid. I have to nail it perfectly to get into the living room. Is that normal? My machine is totally original (bought it huo from the original owner) so maybe time for a flipper rebuild?

Observation: people love the theme integration and it is pretty great...but where are marge and Lisa?? Like why is comic book guy so prominent but Lisa and marge have no real role in the game? Or am I just missing it? It’s weird.

#5283 3 years ago

Is your garage ramp broken? If no one ever put a Cliffy on it there’s a high likelihood that it’s broken.

Cost... The voice actors they chose were the ones that do multiple voices.

For the garage... Your ramp may be busted up in there, or some wires might have snuck past the clear protector hanging from upper playfield. Open up the door and do a visual with a light.

As mentioned, get the Cliffy’s to make sure shots are coming in clean. Otherwise, pull the upper playfield and make sure the gate at the garage is swinging freely.

They only had 3 of the voice actors, so the range of voices is limited.

I added the garage cliffy and now I have the issue of not being able to get it in the living room. It’s way more of a challenge with it. I need to check on this further as well. With a hundred years of episodes I’m not sure why they didn’t just pull some Marge and Lisa content from there. Still a great game for sure.

For me, the garage Cliffy fit under the ramp and acts as a reinforcement. Did you fit it under the ramp?

When you removed the upper playfield did you potentially leave wires or something in the way?

To your last comment about the voices - licensing rights can be funny and there is a strong possibility that the voices in the show can't contractually be used in any other product without further consent or payment to the actors. It can also be that someone "else" owns the TV script/show/production and would need to consent to that being reproduced as well. Multiple hands out for money and approval rights (which can hold up a game) mean "stay away" and do something differently. So it would not (legally) be as simple as moving the sound clips from a DVD copy over to a pinball game.

Programmer Keith Johnson has said that the development team had a limited budget for the voice talent, and the "magic number" was three voice actors. They immediately chose Dan Castellaneta and Nancy Cartwright because they knew they "had" to have Homer and Bart. As a bonus, this got them access to other characters like Krusty, Groundskeeper Willie, etc.

Then they wound up choosing Hank Azaria as the third voice actor, as they felt that he voiced more "fun" characters like Comic Book Guy, Apu, and others.

May have another look......yeah I guess you are right regarding the licensing. Probably would end up just costing way more.

Edit: I bent the garage cliffy down a little bit.. I also added a piece of mylar between the plastic ramp and the metal cliffy. I did this because the plastic ramp was so broken in this spot and the ball would hang up. Works better then before now.

Did you look at the switch underneath the playfield to see if anything is disconnected/broken off? I forget off the top of my head if these have diodes or not but checking how the switch is (or is not) wired is step #1.

The other thing to do is connect your multimeter to the switch ends and see if you get a beep when you close the switch. That tells you if the switch is mechanically working.

Chances are it is a physical issue with the switch (wiring or otherwise not making contact). You should rule those things out before looking at anything else in the game that might be causing this.

Thanks for the response. All looks ok with the wires and such. Good tips here. Will check this out and report back.
