Cannot wait time hear more about the pinsound upgrade. What do you have planned ?

Am I crazy for considering this guy? Would any of you buy a TSPP with decals this bad? And if so, what would you pay? I don't normally care too much about the cab, but the wear is so bad it's almost gross-looking. And I move through a lot of pins, so I wouldn't want trouble on the resale. But it's a fun game, and the seller is currently asking for upper-mid 4's on price. PF seems decent, but the pics are pretty small so it's hard to tell.

Any help from more experienced TSPP owners would be appreciated!

I wouldn’t buy that for upper $4’s. Mine was $5k and it was in perfect condition and I bought from a retailer flipper. So it wasn’t a Craigslist steal or anything.

Cabinet that bad shows how hard and many times it’s been played. $3-$3.5k

Yeah, that's kinda my feeling. I offered him sub $4k, so we'll see. Doubt the seller will take it, but you never know!

#5158 24 days ago

Yeah, I paid $5k for mine that was almost perfect (some of the posts were getting brittle, but otherwise fine) AND had a ColorDMD installed, as well as NVRAM.

I've seen better looking machines in the mid 5's. I'm also searching for a TSPP machine. Unfortunately I'm getting sellers contacting me that want over 6k. No way in hell I'm paying that much for a Simpsons.

There are occasional bargains and rip-offs but overall you generally “get what you pay for.” Lots of Simpson’s out there but prices for HUO examples will probably continue to go up as more people keep joining the hobby and NIB prices rise. True HUO is $5500-6000 all day. Add Color DMD, nuclear side rails and powdercoat and $6000-7000 seems like the new normal. Still a great deal vs HUO modern premiums or LE’s. IMO, if you can afford it, top quality, unrestored examples of highly regarded DMD’s are the best value (excluding likely remakes). Plus they play much better with fewer headaches than average ones.

I can second that. It will probably burst into flames after I type this, but my TSPP has been uber reliable. The playfield looks amazing still and the only real issue I’ve had is the microswitch on the upper playfield VUK.

Not bad for a 17-year old pin. I’ve got friends with NIB pins that have had many more issues.

Having owned a System 11 prior, I kind of miss having things to work on.

I’ve got friends with NIB JJPs and Sterns that have had many more issues.

My cabinet had minor wear around the flippers and start, but nowhere near that bad. I feel i got a great deal on it for $4K. I upgraded the ROM to 5.0, added NVRAM, replaced the rubber with Titan rings, cleaned the PF, and replaced the upper playfield VUK Y-switch. Its been pretty solid

#5164 21 days ago

I traded an STTNG that I valued around $4K for my TSPP about two years ago. It came with lollipop rails to cover what I assume is flipper wear but I've never looked under them because I don't really care.

So my advice would be to get one of the following:

1. Lollipop rails
2. Over it.

I posted this a year ago and no responses. Will try again:

My treehouse gets triggered with the garage shot sometimes. I checked the switch on the treehouse ramp and it does not seem stuck open. Anything else I should check for? Or is this normal.
Also quicky mart sometimes does not trigger. Usually during Wiggum mode which is annoying. Again when I test trigger it seems fine.

Looking at the switch matrix (page 17 of the manual), the Left Ramon Enter switch is on the same column as the Garage switch (the one that opens the door, not the Garage Ramp Enter). Could be that the diode on the garage switch might be faulty (or anything in the same row/column as the Left Ramp Enter).

Try going into switch test mode and see if the garage switch is registering multiple hits.

It’s a game changer. The theme oozes out of the speakers now.

Thanks will check again. So no one ever has treehouse triggering for a garage shot?

I recently purchased a TSPP. Have pulled the play field apart and have it a good clean. Have got a bunch of new parts on order. Cliffys etc.
is it worthwhile going further and touching up the shooter lane and I and S home and then clear coating. Will be doing it myself.see before and after pics. Anything else I should do while it is apart.
Much appreciated
Thanks

Is it better to also clear coat all the metal parts ramps and loops etc that I have cleaned and polished to prevent tarnishing again.

Quoted from D-Gottlieb:

The screw is under the edge of the ramp alright, but it is accessible. The driver has to be at a slight angle, but sometimes that's the case on these machines. Maybe use an offset screwdriver to get it loosened.

It was tough to remove and harder still to put back together, but I managed to do it even with my big hands. Thanks for the offset screwdriver comment - couldn't have done it without that!

I’m not an expert, but it’s definitely not common to coat ball guides and ramps, even on high end restores. The guides take a beating so the clear may not hold up to repeated ball strikes or friction - same reason cliffy’s are used on kick-outs and ball drop areas. Cleaning and waxing should reduce tarnishing, and I use Brite Boy polish during more thorough shop jobs.

holy crap. i have never been interested in the PinSound modding, but this has my attention! That was awesome!

What happens if you stack a bunch of modes? does the song play for the most recently activated mode?

Same logic as before. The code handles the song switching.

Just picked up a TSPP, updated ROM a to 5.0 (from 4); got a high score and no victory music. Is there anything i can check besides the audio in diagnostic menu? seems like it's doin' ok otherwise.

#5181 15 days ago

Found my problem with tree house registering from garage shot. My gate in garage was caught on one of the black wires. Fixed the wire out of the way with a cable tie. Also noticed the left guide on the ramp had been bent by previous owner which actually narrowed the garage ramp rather than widening. So actually got rid of bend and made it back to how it was. Lots of rejects. To actually widen it I also redrilled the hole where the metal guide meets the plastic ramp on the left. The current hole means the metal guide actually sits inside the plastic by a couple of millimetres. Drilling a hole closer to the guide means the guide can sit closer to the plastic ramp thus making the garage shot wider. Fixes this choke point. Sorry forgot to take pictures cos I’m stupid.

Much easier to hit garage now and no more switch issues.

Evenin'

TSPP was my first machine ever and It's never leaving. I feel like it could use some extra love, so I am thinking of getting powder coated armor (and potentially doing the coin door as well)

I've seen the green armor that pinball refinery sells but I just can't get in to it, I've seen a few people do yellow.

Anyone else feel like sharing some eye candy of their powder coated TSPP's?

(there is a part of me that thinks purple could look awesome, my wife says pink (nope, lol))

Thnx!

I’ve always wanted to see the armor in a powder blue, try it for me!

#5186 12 days ago

Just bought my TSPP a few weeks ago.
So I just purchased a 'few' Simpsons characters...
14 total with 1 more on the way (hard to see dog, cat and Maggie by the couch)

Obnoxious looking, isn't it?

I'll probably take out Homer, Marge, Maggie, Bart, Lisa and Grandpa and put them as a topper.

Figured I would post the pic because I think it looked funny with all of them crammed onto the playfield.

Wouldn't mind seeing one in purple but there's a reason that nuclear yellow and green are the popular choices. Did mine in metallic yellow. The sparkle doesn't show up well in the photo.

Like it a lot. The playfield design and rules are great. Tough but not brutal or unfair; hard to trap-up so forces you to play on-the-fly and defensively; more to rules and playfield design than meets the eye. Not super deep but broad and deep enough for long-term enjoyment. Still needs more animations and sounds to immerse you fully and create big moments, but no doubt will come. Certainly good compliment to Simpsons.
