It does feel cheap, and it's a bummer.
Quoted from John_I:It is also the cheapest feeling Stern of all time *to me* along side High Roller Casino and has the a terrible 8-bit sound track that drives me crazy.
It's the rules. The strategy. You can stack hurry ups, with modes, with 2x multiplier shots with couch multi ball, with itchy and scratchy multi ball with D'oh, with daredevil modes and SO much more. It's got wizard modes like Alien Invasion, secret stash, itchy and scratchy has an ending... It has other gems like nuclear somethingarathers, pretzel multi ball, treehouse awards, moes tavern awards, victory laps (which stack over everything) and an absurd super duper wizard mode. Other little touches like you can select which mode you're going to start for much greater control of strategy. Also, I am sure I'm forgetting at least 10 things. If you love to systematically play pinball and dominate a machine, you can manipulate this game like no other.
Did I mention I'm probably forgetting at LEAST 10 things. Other reasons to like it include great art, amazing voice acting, 5 flippers (not everyones bag), one of the last great functional mini play fields, some really satisfying shots, like the couch shot and some super challenging shots like the shot through the pops and the I&S shot being hidden by smart drop targets that go up and down (which is apparently a marquee feature in newer games). Also, I think the treehouse shot is REALLY hard.
Great voice, great art, some super tough shots, absurd amount of strategy... That's why people love this game.
It's got some negatives, it does feel cheap, and the games are super long...
Oh yah, it has like 3 skill shots, maybe more, who can keep track of all this stuff.
Quoted from John_I:I have played a hundred TSPPs over the years each time trying to understand why people like it so much and each time wanting badly to like it. I just don't get it.
