I bought a tspp from somebody at pinside. So far, so good. But being that this is my first pin and unfamiliar with it, I need to know how to keep the high scores from resetting. What happens is if I turn the machine off for 24-48 hours, it comes back on and says, "open the door". So I do, and everything works fine, except all the high scores are reset.

I figured it is probably batteries somewhere that need to be replaced. I did find a bank of 3 batteries in the head when I took the back glass off. Will changing those batteries fix the problem? The issue I have is that they seemed to be held in place with one of those plastic ties and looks very secure. And I don't want to cut that if that is going to break something.

Or is the problem elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The zip tie means that the game probably still has the original batteries installed. replace them and it should fix your problem.

Go ahead and clip the wire tie to change batteries. Consider getting a remote battery pack to prevent leaking batteries from damaging your board. The kind with the wood dowel rods i think would work best for your situation. Someone that posts here makes them, i forget who.

So can somebody provide me a link to the proper type of batteries/battery pack? I assume they need to be some type of rechargeables and not just regular batteries? Thanks.

You can use regular AA. If you change them regularly (every year or two) it's fine. No battery leaks after two years. Some of the earlier posts are referring to a remote battery holder to move them away from the boards in case they do leak. No need for that if you change them.

Okay. So the board doesn't try and charge them? That's what I was afraid of and that they might "blow up".

Stern, Sega, and Data East games are perfect candidates for an anyPin NVRAM Battery Eliminator...

No soldering required, just remove original RAM and batteries and install anyPin.

No-Solder Remote Battery Holders also available from the Products page.

bump. Can somebody else that owns a tspp verify that regular AA can be used without causing any issues? Just want to be sure I don't cause any damage.

Regular AA batteries is what it takes. I would recommend also to get either a remote battery holder or as Rob suggested a NVRAM setup (even better). I personally don't like having the batteries on the board, just in case they decide to leak.

The AA's are correct. You remind me of myself, ah... the good old days of six months ago. TSPP was my first pin as well. The upper right flipper stopped working after a week so I decided to lift the playfield. I was like, "WTF!.. all these wires!" Fast forward to now, I just drilled out some rivets on my POTC to fix the ship motor, works great now by the way. Welcome to the beginning of a great hobby.

Thanks guys. I tend to get a bit nervous with my first.
