Seems a ton of Trons are popping up. Usually this means vault is coming around the corner. I wonder if a premium is coming . It's one of the games that never
had a premium model.

#2 5 years ago

I agree, something is coming. There was no Tron Premium and there will not be one. Pro only.

#3 5 years ago

Or people are shaking things loose for space (or cash). Lots of really interesting things coming out one right after the other.

#4 5 years ago

Would love to see a Tron vault but think Avatar might be the next vault with the new movie coming out.

Im REALLY hoping for a Tron re-run.. ( just looking to pay a reasonable price for an example) but I think what you said is actually what is happening. There are so many games being sold now for newer purchases. I hope I'm wrong.

#6 5 years ago

There's some scuttle about a new Tron movie coming out again. It's slowly starting to emerge. I think this may awaken the pro market.

#7 5 years ago

There is a few more than usual. I check the Tron listings frequently. I'm only interested in Tron and a couple other games, my issue with the used Tron Pro's is the price, hard to pay over 7k for an older used Stern Pro.

link? I thought Tron was dead. Disney tried to create their own Star Wars franchise with John Carter, then a Tron reboot. They gave up and bought SW instead. I'd love another Tron installment........i'm highly doubtful though. Disney has more than enough irons in the fire.........they gotta save SW first too.

An Avatar Vault to tie into a new Avatar film? Is that smart? Would anyone buy an Avatar Vault? If TRON is a non-starter due to licensing, better to Vault LOTR rather than Avatar.

#10 5 years ago

Mine is for sale in the market place. I have no knowledge of a remake.

You can see some google searches under tron movie 2019.

Wow...another Tron Vault thread...who'd of thought?!?!! F ME!

Not much of anything other than Justin Springer has some "mic" time right now as he's produced the newly released Dumbo. So he's essentially saying "wouldn't it be great if Tron.........cause I want to produce it". That's literally it.

Torn Lightcycle Rollercoaster Ride is currently under construction at Disney World Magic Kingdom beside Space Mountain.

It will be similar if not the same as their Tron Ride at Disney Shanghai.

That being said Disney is still investing heavily in the TRON franchise.

I went on the Tron ride at Shanghai Disneyland in April. It is one of the reasons I now have interest in buying a Tron pinball. Lighting on the ride and pin are really cool and I know it is a fast and challenging pin as well.

If Stern makes a vault fully loaded with the ramp lighting, etc, I think I would be in for a VE as well. Probably not willing to pay the inflated prices for an LE or modded pro, however.

There were really only 3 facets to the LE:
- A placard (whatever)
- The ramp lighting, integrated into the game code (imo: Better than the aftermarket mods)
- Daft Punk Multiball

If they put the latter two in, the LE won't be the least bit special. Bad for me (you f*ers!), but good for buyers. It's a great game.

Does anyone know how licensing works? Is the license to produce the pin back in 2010 still valid indefinitely if reproduced the same or would it have to be renewed with additional payments to the licensee?

If they still hold the license on the game, I don't know why they wouldnt do a VE run at some point.

From what I’ve read countless times here in Pinside. Most are only good for 3 years then they have to renew them to make more.

#21 4 years ago

Licensing absolutely expires, and Stern's certainly has. They can renegotiate of course.

This is a Pinside unicorn, people have been saying "surely it's about to happen" for years now. Meanwhile they didn't buy when Stern did another last run of the games.

Don't worry, I'm considering selling my Tron, and they vaulted my ACDC right before I put it up for sale, so I'm sure I can summon another vault if I just commit to selling.

Quoted from MK6PIN:

And chrome armor package, also the artwork on the LE playfield had some small differences.

#23 4 years ago

I have no hope of a Vault coming anymore. Might as well just forget about it, not going to happen.

#24 4 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

I missed the last run (and many other newer pinheads have as well).

Quoted from pcprogrammer:

I am with you. I am certainly not 'waiting for it'. But if they make a vault I will likely get it.

Quoted from Goronic:

I am new to the hobby since then as well. Would buy if they remade it but if the license was only valid for 3 years, I have my doubts they would renew to make more.

Does anyone know if previous VE of other titles were made within a 3 year window of initial production?

#26 4 years ago

Doing a little research, both the Iron Man and AC/DC VE's were made beyond 3 years of the originals.

Not sure if those licenses were longer but it does give me hope they could still possibly do a Tron VE. Of course, given it is a Disney license that may make things more difficult.

#27 4 years ago
Quoted from Goronic:

Not all of us had the money at the time they were made. I would buy a VE or an original so someone else could buy the VE. There is no doubt that there is money to be made. I believe it will happen.

#28 4 years ago

The LE was the premium at that time. The plate on the game said limited edition... But, the box the game came in said premium...

Godzilla is literally printing money for Stern a year after launch, they are still building several older machines, plus they are about to launch a new machine. I highly doubt they will build a legacy anything for a long time to come. Why would they even need to?

#39 1 year ago

I thought Stern said no more DMD games ever when they canceled the last run of Iron Man. If Tron or LOTRs is ever going to be made at Stern again, either would have a significant overhaul to be brought to the new platform. Seems unlikely, though if I were a betting man it is more likely for LOTR than for Tron.

#40 1 year ago

They can't even make Godzilla's , why would they care about Tron plus the backlog of all the other current title's to build......Move on !

#41 1 year ago

It's a hard sell to bring a game out from the vault with a company like Stern pumping out new games. Spooky makes sense because a) they can fit time between a game production and b) they had been talking about a TNA re-run for a while now. For a Tron/LotR would need to run it on new hardware, they could use the LCD like a color DMD does and mask off the top/bottom to keep the DMD.

There's always going to be an interest in someone getting a vault run, but don't expect it to be similar to release prices. You're talking a $9k+ game at this point. For all the talk of a re-run when this thread started 3 years ago, you should have just bought a used game and enjoying it instead of waiting.

gosh no, LOTR is a boring game, yes I said that. Long playing, impossible to finish, meh meh meh.

I suspect an overhaul and TRON game made by Jack Danger, I do hope for a Spike II system, upgraded flipper and all the animations from the movie that we could not have.

If Stern in not doing this somebody else should but to be honest, that said, Elwin and Danger are to me the best upcoming designers to replace the older generation, with Elwin ahead of the game by 4 cornerstones titles, all top shelf shooting games.

I will take this a step further and say this, Elwin and his team -always the same coders- always deliver solid code to all the games he puts out and that is what I like about the projects he embarks on, unlike other coders: GB, MANDO, TMNT, Srangers Things, Munsters, etc, who deliver an incomplete product and then often never polish nor fully finished. This reminds me of the Williams era, when code was really never finished, I was thinking of this the other day and I came to the conclusion that the coders who are still doing this, are the same coders from back then...

I’d buy Tron and Tspp while they’re at it.

I own a TRON LE.... It's one of my favorite go to games in my entire collection. While I would love to see you guys that don't have one get a NIB "Vault" the more TRON the better... I simply don't see it happening.

I do however see them re-skinning / re-releasing it as a TRON 82'. I thought this year would make so much sense because that would mark the 40th anniversary of the original movie, also the Disney World Tron light cycle run roller coaster will open any month now.

My suggestion is that anyone that wants a TRON... buy a TRON. All things considered based on every other games pricing it's not that outrageous comparatively speaking. I mean in theory all the games pricing now is outrageous, so you might as well purchase a great game. Does it have the most cutting edge toys or deep code etc etc... NO but that's not what makes TRON amazing.... it's the flow / speed / constantly wanting to play just one more game... the I know I can get to the "portal".

I think Tron 82 would be fun, I mean if it has Jeff Bridges in it doing call outs, bring it on. I ultimately like the music and feel of the newest movie, the upbeat music, the electronic feel to it, dafpunk, and all of that together.
Tron 82 might be ok but only if it is mixed with Legacy.

Also... TRON 3 will eventually come to be... Disney will want another movie to tie into their new ride...at that point I can pretty much assure you Stern will make another TRON, likely based on the 3rd Movie, maybe trilogy. Or maybe in 2032 they will make a 50th TRON anniversary pin... But unless you guys want to wait for maybes just buy TRON Legacy NOW it exists!

Everyone is running away with themselves.

This is not a new Tron thread. There are 1000 others, yes, but I am continuing an existing thread. It's a conversation. Obviously people want this game again if the chatter has continued over the years.

Stern don't need to do vaults with red DMDs and they probably won't. That is correct. But the new rumour is a Tron release with the new cabinet and colour display. They're a manufacturer. Production will go back to normal and if they get the license again, they can do a run of Tron machines.

And it's always the same argument. Buy one if you want it now. Well, that's not possible for people outside the U.S. I'm in Australia: 1 Tron machine is up for trade in the entire country. It's not an easy game to get secondhand.

You can play a different game every day for over a month, and it when it is not “hot” anymore then the gap is even longer.
I really love the idea of a big xollection but the this happens…

#49 1 year ago

Read from Disney when they bought Marvel and Star Wars years back they scrapped new Tron movie.
Seems something might be in works now with another Tron movie. Stern would probably be on board with a pin for the new movie with the way Disney works. It would make sense Disney would want to promote new movie.

Could Tron:Arez, set to be released in 2025 see a brand new Spike 2/3 be on the cards for Stern, or anyone else for that matter?

While many long for a vault to materialise, many others already accept that SAM format has already long gone been de-Rezed!

Maybe this belongs in the “Next Stern” thread but I just thought I’d reboot the possibility.
