So the Eli kit is no longer being made, Redshift ultimate light show is a no show. I'm not into the static eli wire kit. Anyone else know of an alternative that would look close to the Eli kit or Redshift kit by TimeBandit?

If anyone has an Eli Kit or Redshift Ultimate Light Show they want to sell, please pm me.

#2 2 years ago

look on here for the Pinduino kit by Professor Pinball. totally awesome. You can also see it but going to you tube and typing in "tron ramp lights pinduino professor pinball"
totally cool

#3 2 years ago

Thanks AJB4. I did see that kit. But, I'd like something that utilizes EL wire if possible. The Eli kit is killer for tron. The Redshift kit is also good.

#4 2 years ago

You mean fiber optic not EL wire. ELIs kit was 2 light engines with fiber optic tubing. awesome. don't know why its not sold anymore.

There are no alternatives that use fiber optic ramps like the Eli kit or the Total Lightshow kit. As mentioned before pinduino would be your next best option if you don't want a single-color EL wire. TimeBandit has recently posted that he is considering doing a run of more kits in the near future, but there is no timeline as of now.

I made my own color changing kit for about $100 if anyone is interested I can give a parts list and pictures of how I did it

Right now I have it set to cycle red blue and green but each ramp will do most any color you like and it utilizes fiber optic cable instead of LEDs. The down side is it is not tied in with the game action, it does whatever you set it to do. It can stay one color all the time, jump from color to color, or fade from color to color. I have it set to jump to alternate colors but I have one set to change colors at a slightly faster speed than the other so the color combinations appear completely random from one ramp to the other. I also put together my own speaker light kit for just under $30. I made it orange on the left and blue on the right to go along with the translite

I'd definitely be interested to see how you did it, and a parts list...especially the fiber. Could blow open the doors on this type of mod for other games.....or you could keep it to yourself and start your own business I guess, lol.

i don't know if this is helpful, but we have designed low profile ramp lights for Mando that are interactive and can be tied to any flasher. I am certain it could easily be adapted to Tron, perhaps more easily since flashers in Tron are 12v compared to Mando where they are 5v and i have to use a voltage regulator. Unfortunately, i don't have a tron so i cannot test them or take measurements. I also only currently have green and blue and I'd guess people would want orange. I'm open to trying them if someone local has a tron I can use. They can also be set to being always on if that is the look you are going for.

I don’t want to keep it to myself and I’m not selling anything so here’s what I did:

I simply got some fiber optic cable and (2) 16W light sources from Amazon. There is already a convenient 12v power source near the coin door. I attached the light sources to the support brackets under the playfield with wooden spacers between them to allow heat dissipation. I used high strength tie straps to attach the light sources to each other with the spacers between them and then the same tie straps to attach the light sources to the support brackets. The hole in the light sources is much larger than the fiber optic cable so inside of the hole I put a small piece of fuel hose inside of a small piece of heater hose. This allowed me to create a tight fit for the fiber optic cable and hold the fiber optic cable securely in the center of the light source LED. For the ramps I used a small pick to start the holes in the plastic ramp and then followed up with a drill bit slightly larger than the small tie straps I was using to mount the fiber optic cable to the ramps.

Those light look really cool on the Mandolorian and I’m sure something could be worked out with the Tron.

So who wants to lend or sell me a tron?

That looks pretty good, presume it’s static, meaning always on? Are you noticing any interference with the game at all? Thought I recall seeing something about fiber optics causing issues maybe with the recognizer?

They can be static if someone wants them to be but there are several jump and fade settings that allow the lights to change at whatever speed the user selects. There is also a music mode that will vary the brightness based on the music but I didn’t personally care for the music mode. I’m not having any issues. I would think the only way one would have an issue is with a power or ground problem for the light source since the only thing that goes anywhere near the recognizer is a small amount of light

This looks awesome. Is there any way you could show how it looks with sound causing the ramp illumination to switch?

Sure. Honestly I have only tried the sound mode before I ever installed it. I might like it better now

Actually it’s better than I expected

Here’s the audio mode with static colors. Blue doesn’t show up great in the video since the playfield is blue

I am developing wireforms with led light centered in the rails to replace the plastic ramps as another option. This is just the left side. Just finished that side today. The other side is blue. As of today the lights are static. When I get both sides done I am looking to change that.

Play test video left ramp.

Wow both of these look great! The fibre optics with the music triggered driver is probably the easiest for me to DIY though.

Thank you both for sharing!

Good luck. Post some pictures when you’re done. I’d love to see the results
