Bringing the Tron Mini Arcade back from the dead.

It needed some re-drawing, prototyping, and testing the new cabinet for the the new OLED screen the design is now complete as the one used previously is now obsolete and the new one has new dimensions.

** Price is $380 USD plus shipping anywhere in Canada or US **
What do you get:

Fully assembled TRON Cabinet with a color OLED screen that includes:
UOLED screen with *attract mode
Professionally printed & machine cut decals, and,
Lit up marquee and control panel with fluorescent joystick
Flasher (just like the original cab Stern made)

The screen is programmed with *Eli Curtz software (the original mod), it will turn this little cab into a TRON arcade running in attract mode
All cables power harness needed to connect to your machine
Spares:
Full set of decals, pre cut peel and stick in case you ever need to replace them
2X Mini Joystick, in case the one installed ever gets lots during a hasty cleaning session
Instructions

Big thanks to Eli Curtz for his incredible work and of cours to Tilt as well, which I believe he is no longer in the forums but he did design the original V2.0 of the cabinet, which inspired me to take this on and build more.

a little of the work in progress as I was testing the last prototype this week. Please excuse the roughness but it is just a prototype.
Please note the white ears on the side will not be there (they are cut and not visible / covered by the decals) on the completed cab.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WAS AN EARLY PROTOTYPE.
THE MOD NO LONGER USES LASER CUT PARTS.

Are you putting an led in the marquis and joystick panel? That really looks cool if you do.

Quoted from luvthatapex2:

Yes.
The marque is illuminated
The back panel is illuminated

The joystick is going to be neon blue
Ansd below the joystick there is an UV led to make it pop.

There is also a flasher inside the unit (just like the standardarcade Stern made) that goes off when the ball goes into the scoop

I have noticed that my first post got edited by someone on this forum. I guess posting a mod for sell is against some weird rule? Or they want me to pay a membership of some kind.
Would have appreciated Heads up really… weird.

Please contact me by private pm for details on it, as I am no longer sure what is it thwt was wrong with my initial post.

Thanks

Added 80 days ago:

EDIT: Looks like the edit was a glitch in my computer (to be confirmed by Admins) so until then, I added the information that was deleted. This could be edited if it is breaking any forums rules I am not aware of...

Perhaps hit by the stern license police?

I am not sure as this was offered before without major consequences… but I am glad I caught it now.

For those of you new to this thread contact me by pm for price, thanks.

Looks like the list of people interested is slowing down so I will give it another until Monday (Jan 2nd) to add more before cutoff. This is to prevent ordering extra or unneeded components (UOLED screens more particularly) that are impossible for me to return and I really do not need extra of these

I might do another run in the future if there is interest YET, it is very VERY unlikely considering the small list we got, so this is your last call to get on this run.

Thank you!

I have two that are not working. Any tips to get them up and running again?

#24 76 days ago

thanks for the update everyone, I will be closing this first run tonight after updating the list with the latest names.

Send me some more info by PM and I will help you diagnose, worst case scenario send them to me and I will fix them for you.
I need to know if the screen is working, if there is unit is receiving power (connected to 5v at the head?) and any other diagnostics or tests you have done already. It could be something super simple, and most likely it is. Let's continue by PM to prevent clogging the thread. thanks.

#25 76 days ago

Thanks again everyone, just a quick update:
I just finished programming all the screens and I have completed 80% of the wire harnesses. I had to source the wire and that took some effort but I got it.
The holidays really slowed me down and the fact that school is closed so mod building got bumped down, daddy duties bumped up.

We are at 20 people now plus other 2 who have contacted me by message and are unsure if they are taking it or not. I am making it public here that I will add these 2 people to the first run if they do confirm. I am mentioning this only because I have closed the first run but have not added these names yet.

Other than that, any other people interested will be added to the 2nd run and provided it gains enough traction I might do these again. I have to say these are extremely time consuming to make and I am taking my time too, to ensure these come out as good as they can.

I can't wait to show the final product (which we all seen before really so this is not exactly new) but it is the first time I make them and I am excited for you to have them.

Happy new year everyone.

ok so it have been a few days since my last post and I CANNOT wait to share the final results, which will be VERY SOON, I have completed the first unit today and looks REALLY awesome but I still have to wire and confirm that all is working well so that said, I am hoping to have some units done by the end of this month.

I hate putting a timeline because it does not help my anxiety but things are moving well so provided it all stays like this, nobody gets sick, school stays open and I can continue with my routine, the time line is looking good. That said, not all units will be ready end of this month (there is ZERO chance for this to happen) but I will be able to start pumping them out soon.

Once I have a few lined up, I will post a picture of them but I do not want to do this until they are complete! But I do love what I am seeing!
The amount of work these are to make is ridiculous, but it is a really fun project for me. Thank you for your support!

Last but not least, this extra time / delay was actually a blessing in disguise as it coincided with another event that helped me improve the design a little further, made subtle changes and today, I was able to confirm that everything was great and I think you all will be pleased...

Stay tuned!

Jan 19th update

Just waiting on the clear plastics still but 98% of the parts are ready otherwise!

I expect these plastics to arrive in 2 weeks so my timeline is a little delayed due to this but not by much.

In order to save some time:
I kindly ask that if you are on my list, please send me the following information via private message. This is needed by customs to ship from Canada to the US

1-Full name
2-Address
3-Phone number
4-Email
5-And if you want the parcel insured (this will inevitably make your shipping more expensive between $5 to $10 roughly)

Thank you

Thanks to everyone that has contacted me with your info, I am still missing a few on the list.
This is a huge time saver for me, it does 2 things:

1- One it tells me you are committed
2- It saves me time as I do not have to sit an write 26 different emails asking for your shipping information.

For those of you that have not contacted me with your info, well, you will be contacted by me as soon as the mods are assembled, and that said, Assembly started today.

Because a video (?) is worth a thousand words ( and with latin accent is more fun), here is a video instead and some pics also. The first one has been completed today. Hope you like it so far, been working really hard on these.

And in case you want to skip the video (would not blame ya!) here is a list of upgrades:

-cabinet has been modified to accommodate the latest OLED screen
-No through holes (except the side screw to keep the unit together) which greatly increased the good looks, as the amount of holes were reduced to only two, thus giving the side panels a nice flat clean look rather than a bumpy one (at least with my decals the laser cut panels were really bad).
Solution: New material used, say goodbye to delrin and say hello to PETG. In my testing (3 different prototypes) the laser xut delrin cabinet broke after disassembling it 3 times and that was me being careful.
I have been testing the new material for almost 1 month now and it is 100x more durable and unlike Delrin, it won’t scratch
Scratch.
Textured finish on the top panel for extra good looks as well.

- Joystick has “tron” engraved on it. Looks really neat. This was done before but not all mods have it, so I brought it back. You will get a spare also in case you lose the one installed.

- a new base to replace the plastic in your game will be provided.

And maybe a few things I can’t remember now.

Buenas noches, bonna cera, bonne nuit, good night!

Wow, nice job!! I was buying this as a back-up to my existing one which has been acting a bit flaky lately...now, I think I will just swap it out with this "Improved" edition.

Thanks brothers!
I was kind of joking about being tired, lol, hope you got the sarcasm! the video was made around midnight after working all day and just needed my beauty rest. lol

Thank you all for the kind words, they are appreciated. I did try my absolute best to give a nice mod. Let's not forget that a lot of the concept was partly created by Eli Kurtz, who was the designer of the Ramp Lights mod done back in the day. He did all the animations for this mod and he then open it up for the world. Another person then took it a step forward and made a cabinet for it.
I took those 2 and made a new cabinet for it, that in a lot of ways resembles the latest design but with improvements. All that to say, yes, it was exactly like starting from scratch, with the difference that I use the previous design which really helped me as a guide, while I figured how to make it all work again.

So kudos to Eli and I believe the other person's handle was Tilt, but he is no longer on pinside.

Nonetheless, making these has taken nearly 3 months by the time this is all wrapped up in then next few weeks.

I want to thank you all for the interest and the support, I am really enjoying this process and although I might have look a little tired in the vid just know I love making this for you and put a lot of love into them.

Another quick announcement:

I have received in the last week many requests by private message of people who want the mod NOW but are not on the first list.
If you are new to this thread and WANT the mod soon, here are the good news, I am willing to do a 2nd run of these.

I kindly ask please that if you want to be in the 2nd run, you POST it here on this thread. This is the only way this will work for many reasons but primarily just because it is the only way to encourage people to sign up for the mod, is to have them see that a LIST is on growing here.
My inbox is currently blowing up with messages regarding the first order, which is why it is vital to show your interest HERE on this thread and not to by private message where no-one else can see it but me.

Let's not keep it a secret, spread the love

I will be updating the FIRST thread post with a list of interested people for the second run! Please comment here with
"I will be interested in another one please' or else along those lines.

Once we have 20 people on that list, I will start production again.
Cheers

Are there any spaces open my original took a dump and I may want to replace it.

#45 42 days ago
Quoted from jorge5240:

Are there any spaces open my original took a dump and I may want to replace it.

I’ll have to check it there are any cancellations, it happens. I can give you that spot if that happens but I will know this in a few days once I contact everybody who has not sent me their address by now.

Edit: anybody on list #2 has priority though, have to respect the order these came in.

Edit #2: that #2 better start growing soon before I change my mind and increase the price of the mod by $10 a minute lololol

It is a lot of work and a ton of hours to make these at the level of detail I am aiming for.
I will give list #2 about 10 more days to grow, if it does not reach 20 units I will continue to offer the mod on a one off request but expect the price to be over $500 per unit

Edit #3: assembly is coming along real well! I had to make the executive decision to give one more upgrade that was planning to produce in the next run. Things or destiny or both decided to have that included now.
Long story short, the parts received where 0.4 mm thinner than expected and the options where:

Wait for the thickness I had planned (3 weeks delay)

Redesign the cabinet to accept the new thickness.
This included remaking absolutely every cabinet again, a huge waste of time but been at it since Friday and this is now redone. Basically this was my entire weekend, working around this.

I went with option 2 and also included another upgrade to yhe side cab. Good news and I will show you later this week on a video.

In short, you are getting version 5.1 now lol

Cheers everyone

#46 38 days ago

Ok, I had made a video that was longer but I changed my mind...

All the 25 orders have been built. They all look awesome just like #25 below in this video:

Please note that there are no screws on the side of the cabinet anymore! Say hello to V5.1 by Pin_Fandango.
The side screw now lives under the decal, leaving the decal unmolested. the cabinet can still be disassembled by unscrewing the screws from the back. If you do need to get access to the head of the screw under the decal, spare decals have been included if you ever -EVER- need to.
Another upgrade is the simplified hardware for the base. I have ribbet-ed the l bracket to the base, simplifying the previously grotesque screw + locknut arrangement, it now looks cleaner and it is also smaller (not a huge deal there but I personally prefer this method).

I am super happy with how it turned out and I hope you guys like it too.

Tomorrow I will start packing these up I will be contacting the people on my list in the order it was published originally
