actually my bad. I purchased 3 at the time and totaled wrong. I'll accept reasonable offers + actual shipping unless ur local and want to pick it up.

I had the center portion of the clear disc come off. I did clean the motor thoroughly before installing. I ended up using some spray glue and it hasn't come off since.
I ended up buying an extra plastic disc and black rubber pad when I ordered all my parts for Tron because mine is kinda "meh" but I want to save it for the clear or blue one.......is it really that much of a PITA to clean off the old rubber from the original plastic?
Simply put this is a very ordinary mod for Tron and a reasonable idea that was badly executed. The spin on the factory black is more than enough. Chuck in some super cointaker 13's under it and it looks awesome. The residue from the black disc is only a small issue if you don't clean your pins. More importantly the factory black doesn't rip, flake or come off.
I have spent a lot of money modding my tron and this is one mod that I have stayed well clear of. Always issues popping up on forums about how crap it is.
Any other long-term users of this disc that can weigh in?
I have 3M adhesive already I was planning on using. Originally I was going to pull the black rubber off but it sounds like if I do this I should probably just buy a new plastic to save a bunch of time and maybe make it last longer. Correct?
Do I need to install plastic protectors? Anyone break stuff with this disc?
Any other thoughts or suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks.

3M has held great for me - I would suggest Plastic Protectors. I have not broken one yet, but the word is yet. Its gong to happen as the ball can get lodged under the slings. Buy a new disc an save the time. Its a PIA to remove one glued down.

+1 on the the old rubber is a PIA to remove. But I absolutely love the clear and how it throws the ball. But if you order, get a couple. After several months, mine ripped on the outer ring and now I need to replace. Since shipping is about the same as the rubber, I am going to have to pad my order to make it worth it.
The black was a pain, but well worth it once I put the clear on. I put red & blue flashers (opposite sides) below playfield which looks pretty cool. The ball still flies around the playfield but is finally worn enough that it does not reverse direction and go up the ramp (yes, it did happen)

Had it on for one year. played it a bunch. The disc never came up or even could come up ( tried to pull on it a bit right before I sold the game.) Like anything, putting on the disc or decals or painting something usually takes seconds.. its all in the prep. Took me an hour plus to clean off the old rubber. I roughed up the plastic slightly and I used the included adhesive. No extra glue or tape. Worked flawlessly. One of the best mods for tron. Never broke any plastics.

Agreed.....mine's been on for over 6 months, played every night, no problems. I pulled the motor completely out (very east to do ) took the old black off, prepped and cleaned thoroughly, and installed the clear, added 3m adhesive (also had a custom black decal made to put under the disc, to retain some of the light refraction).
Mod is awesome, ball comes in and out with a mind of its own...crazy fast and spinning wildy...AWESOME!!!! I already had plastic protectors installed, and would recommend putting those on regardless (I've broken plastics with far less horsepower than this disc on other machines).....mark

the spin on the factory rubber is great - at first. Then it starts losing its effectiveness. You can clean the rubber and get some of that back but it will never be the same again. The clear rubber fixes that problem and is definitely a noticable gameplay enhancement.

It may be but the issue I have is its longevity
Having gone through the variations on this, I finally used 3M 5200 to bind down the clear rubber. Now 350 plays into it, it still works great! I changed the flashers underneath since I was concerned the white 5200 would look bad and it looks great and has held up so far. Other glues I tried ended up failing with enough plays. I am keeping a spare on hand just in case, but the black rubber is terrible.

any chance these are available elsewhere? pinball life use to sell the plastic for $20bucks. Decided i'd check out the clear disc mod for myself. Think I'll just try elbow grease on the OEM plastic but thought i'd ask.

Pinball Life still has them: http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=2539
But I believe you can still only get the clear rubber from Germany.
I'm considering installing a clear disc in my Tron - has anyone experienced plastics breaking due to the increased speed of the ball now that it's been a couple of years?

Installed it a year ago, not so crazy any,ore as first plays, but still very good. Scared of broken things in the beginning,, but was ok. You will see crazy things with this disc.....
Just installed one on a game I'm borrowing from a friend, in 4 years this game has had 4 discs as I know who's owned it. It started factory, my friend had it and put a clear disc in, sold it, its come to me with a black disc and now I've put a clear disc in. I've had maybe 5 games to playtest, in those:
1. I've had to remove the spotlight LED's, the ball ejects so violently sometimes from the disc that on 3 occasions its knocked them out completely. I will likely find some flat head ones to put in that are harder to knock out.
2. Crazy stuff happening, ball flying out and being sent round the gem shot, somehow halfway up the right ramp etc.
3. Balls shot out so fast they have cracked against the glass a few times now, this is invisiglass as well so I'm a bit worried about it, especially as it is not my game.
Going to keep it in for a while and hope it calms down as others have said. The speed on this thing is absolutely incredible but it's actually making me a bit scared to play the game, all I can think is I've created a monster!
Hey there Archytas,
What I had to do is put a bit of powder.. I use arrow root powder, and I lightly... and I mean lightly powder down the clear disc where it still has some grip.. but not to the "clean" disc.
It will make all of the difference in the game, and make it where you do not flinch ever time the ball shoots out of the disc.
I have sourced a limited quantity of these Clear Discs from Pinball.Center.
From now until Oct 1st; I have them on sale for 9.92 on my site:
TronDisc545-6836-00_545-6836-01 (resized).jpg
Out of stock. Most of you went into hording mode ordering several at a time.
I don't have an immediate need to do another order with Pinball.Center... but; please use the Red link at the top of the product page to add yourself to the wait list. This will help me judge demand to ensure I have enough stock for everyone next time.
Really tempted to install this, but I'll be honest and say I'm a bit terrified. I've got quite a few mods including the expensive arcade mod, and my LE is immaculate at the moment.
I cleaned it up recently, took the ramps off to get to the rear orbit which had a black streak going around it. I thought it was a ball trail at first, but it came off easily enough with isopropyl. Even gave the disc a clean with iso too.
Anyway, after doing that I waxed the PF twice and even though I barely get the chance to play on it the other day I noticed that all 4 balls had little black rubber dots on them. I gave the playfield a wipe with a microfibre cloth and it left a bit of a film on the cloth - so there is definitely black "mist" being deposited around. I really don't want to have to remove the ramps to give it a clean every few months, if playing it means this is certain to happen.
I don't get the chance to play enough for the clear disc to "calm down" so in practical terms if I fit the clear disc its going to be violent for the forseeable future.
I know herg has tried inline resistors (per this post) - but I'm not electrically skilled so wouldn't have the first clue how to do this myself.
Is the blue disc a good compromise? Has anyone got any videos of a reasonably newly fitted clear disc in action? The video earlier in the thread doesn't work.
All,
I plan on doing another order with Pinball.Center at the end of the month (IE first of Nov)... so far; there seems to no interest in the Tron Discs as no-one has expressed interest via our red "notify of Stock" link at the top of the page on our product webpage.
If there continues to be no interest at the end of the month; I'll likely not order any further discs as I don't want to be stuck with stock no one will buy.
I have noticed my Tron disc has lost its spinning magic action over the years, so decided to order one of these after reading the reviews. Already have a new extra disc, but wondering if I have to remove the old original center rubber to access the screw heads for removal. Haven’t looked yet, but hoping the nuts come off easy.

I've removed 2: one taking the rubber off was easy, one was a pain in the ass that shredded into a 1000 pieces trying to take it apart.
The real charlie foxtrot in this is the set screw that hold the disc to the motor. The thread locker on it is like concrete. A bit of heat from a soldering iron tip will help loosen the thread locker,
