Glad to see Tron 3 is in the works and I do believe this opens the door to Tron Stern Vault

It's another one of these tron threads... *sigh*

Haven't seen this topic covered yet. It should be riveting to see the speculation unfold!

Not sure if that’s good for people who want a vault edition based on Stern’s 2010 version. I’m sure Disney would want to market Tron 3 in every way possible including movie assets into a pin.
Thought Disney cancelled this whole Tron 3 idea but with that new ride in Disney coming why not get it going again.

#5 3 years ago

Supposedly it will be a different story and cast. It would need to be rethemed like Batman 66 vs dark knight.

If you think it’s happening get ready to wait a few years

Not familiar with Jared Leto.

It never got cancelled - Tron Legacy made money - it just didn't make AS MUCH money as the Marvel movies and Star Wars, so it got backburnered

Kinda wish I wasn't. He is /was also in a band called 30 Seconds to Mars which put out an AMAZING first album, and then they turned into a whiny angsty teeny bop band.

I believe he played the Joker in movie Suicide Squad.

According to Box Office Mojo Tron Legacy budget was 170M, and worldwide gross was 400M, so it probably made some money, but barely. I believe they need to approach tripling the budget to consider it a success. Compare for example to GOTG2, a pretty mediocre movie with a budget of 200M and gross approaching the 900M mark. Captain Marvel, an absolutely horrid pile of drivel with a budget of 160M made 1.1B gross! So it’s plain to see why they would continue to put money into a never-ending dreary series of Marvel movies. Those make money hand over fist.

The original Tron was trailblazing, but only made 33M on a 17M budget. Realistically it was a money loser, and it was lucky the sequel got made years later. As I remember the story, there was a rendering done with the latest CGI tools of a guy tossing the light cycle rod, the bike assembling itself, and the guy jumping on and riding it. I still have that clip somewhere on my computer. Someone high up at Disney saw that and basically said holy shit, that is damn cool, let’s make a movie. So Legacy got made and luckily they did a darn good job.

There has always been that Tron core fandom that has stuck through the years and is still here. Maybe someone saw the potential. We can now hope for something good. In the new world where almost all movies are sequels, prequels, spin-offs, etc, I think anything can be good even if it’s an old idea. But it can be bad too. It all comes down to what they make. I hope they do it up right!

Remember

There were 3 Star Wars movies.
There were 2 Alien movies.
There was one Robocop, one Total Recall, one Bladerunner movie.
There are no Dune movies yet.

Always dug the David Lynch one, even though it's insane. Part of the deal with Lynch.

I hear Tron guy will be in the sequel

I'm a big David Lynch fan, and that movie has a lot going for it, but with a huge fatal flaw. Also, its not entirely Lynch as there were strange politics and goings-on with that movie, and I think he has mostly disowned it himself. But that's all a topic for the Dune discussion, which has been quiet lately.

Let's get some Tron going!!

New movie!!

New pinball machine!!

New video game!!

Ryan Gosling would have been the right choice for Tron 3, even though its not a sequel, after seeing what he did for Bladerunner 2049.

I was super excited about the possibility of TRON 3 but a little bummed when they decided to not continue the story of Sam and Quorra. I did read that they were planning to approach Daft Punk again for soundtrack. As far as TRON Pinball, [I think] we are more likely to get a new TRON 3 pin than a vault edition of the previous version. I don't see Disney allowing the licensed to be renewed on that version but anythings possible I suppose.

With a new cast and not continuing with the past storyline I’m wondering if Stern does do a new machine it won’t be a vault, but rather a stand alone release that pairs it with the new movie. It’s been 10 years since the last pin, with lots of changes in technology over that last decade. Hopefully they do bring forward how the original captivated people with the music and capitalize on some of the unique mods that were incorporated.

Give me a new KME designed Tron pin...yes, please!

#21 3 years ago

they should do a whole new pin...

I know im not in the majority but I think Tron is a way overrated game.. and yes I owned one for quite a while when it came out.

Its cool looking but they could do better and cooler stuff playwise.

He’s good.

Dallas Buyers Club
Requiem for a Dream

He played Chapman the guy who shot John Lennon (Chapter 27)

Played Joker in Suicide Club

Tron Legacy pinball is the greatest pinball machine ever made.

Yup. I said it.

It’s a great game, but at the current market prices, it is not worth what people are selling/buying at. Makes me think About selling but I enjoy it so

It's a market thing, timing is everything. Sometimes, you just won't see a Tron in the wild! But it's one of those games that has increased in value over time and that people enjoy modding like crazy! I'm guilty of that btw! Lol
