The orientation of the chips are correct. If you placed them in backwards and powered up the machine the chips would fail. First thing I would check is make sure each pin has continuity and that you don't have any bridged solder joints. Next verify that you don't have any connectors not plugged in along with the correct orientation of the ribbon cable.
