I picked up a free Trident pinball machine over the weekend. I just had to drive an hour to get it. Ya can't beat free, right? The playfeild lights up but that's it. The playfeild is worn. The back box does not not light up at all. The back glass is in excellent condition. I do not have a key to the back box so I can't see whats doing in the box.

there is some swelling on the back box frame.

One 4amp 32 volt fuse in the cabinet was blown and I didnt have a replacement so Im not aware what that one fuse controls.

Im going to look up the manual online to see what the fuse situation looks like. The previous owner said it never worked as along as she had it.

Here are some pics.

Start with rectifier board, connectors pins etc.

Reminds me of low priced used German cars. They are the most expensive cars there are.

do you happen to know which fuses are supposed to be in the cabinet. I am looking at the schematics and only see one reference to a 1amp slo blo fuse but there are about 5 or 6 fuses in the fuse bank (i am not standing in front of the game right now so im not exactly sure how many fuses are in the bank).

Im going to have to drill the back box lock out tonight after work..or try to pick it open, which ive never done before.

The "fuse bank" is the rectifier board that is labeled with all of the fuse values.

The online Trident schematics are missing the rectifier board which also has the fuse info.
Download the Stern Hot Hand schematics which contains the rectifier board that's generic for those early Sterns.

got it..thanks (only two are slo blo's):

Fuse 1 = 10 amp (tp1)
Fuse 2 = .75 amp slo blo (tp2)
Fuse 3 = 4 amp (tp3)
Fuse 4 = 5 amp (tp5)
Fuse 5 = 20 amp (tp 4)
Fuse 6 = 3 amp slo blo

Ignore the slow blow on the schematic for fuse F2. It should be a 0.75 amp fast blow. The diodes in the bridge after it will blow before a slow blow fuse will.

Here are pics of the crusty rectifier board. Some wiring looks bad. I reseated what i could. I installed the proper fuses per the diagram above. I got as far as have the back board lights coming on in addition to the play field lights, which always came on. Still no game play life, sounds or displays.

Definitely gonna need to re-pin the female connectors to the rectifier board and most likely need to replace the male header pins too.

Here's a good example of a damaged area that will need re-pinning:

those ceramic resistors need replacing too. That board is pretty bad.
