I was at TPF and elbowed my way through the swap meet to get my hands on this playfield that I had seen was going to be available. I bought it with the intentions of stripping it down and lighting it up from behind as a decoration. But I have become smitten with restoring this back to original glory. It will be quite a challenge since there are most likely less than 600 of these still around. Nonetheless I’m up for the challenge !

I love the Gamatron / Flight 2k nod on the upper right playfield in the Orion ship, so classic!

This play field is missing the ship, and the plastic is badly damaged. There should be some interesting developments coming up with me acquiring the ship. A very gracious pinsider has sold me his ship that is in need of some restoration, but at least we have a good candidate! Here is a picture of the plastic after I cleaned up quite a bit. It’s in pretty rough shape, I may need to source another, or with the help of someone else re-create one that will look nice .

Another gracious pinsider dozer1 has been great! He is sending me some much needed parts from a playfield part out! I’ll post pictures of the loot soon!

I have also reached out to Freeplay40 about the 2 ramps I’m needing... while I was at TPF I had an opportunity to purchase the crossover ramp, which was one of the driving factors of pushing this project forward and giving me some confidence that this may be successful!

Here are some more detailed pictures of what I am working with, if anybody has any spare parts you would like to offer to me to help this project along, I would be super grateful!

I need ramps for Transporter... all three except the crossover, can a few of you fellow that need ramps for transporter please send Freeplay40 a message or post on his ramp thread that you are interested?!?

He has the ramps in question and can produce them if there’s enough interest...

Or if you want to sell me yours, I will take the 2 that are on the rear left, the one on the right I might attempt making a wire form , maybe. Maybe not

I have an extra translite for Transporter. It's not perfect & I'm sure you could touch it up.
The worst is on the top right side of the "tractor beam". The white line above Bally is just a reflection.
Happy to donate it to the project if you can use it. I've had the machine for years & love it.
[quoted image]

Man o man! I already have an nos that I’m using, got lucky and landed it a while back... thank you very much for the kind gesture

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

This is such a great game. Glad there will be one more in the world!!

Yes! Sadly a gameshow that was full of mold had to die so this could live, but I do know other gameshow owners benefitted from the playfield.

I’m so excited to have this game... I could have bought one for similar money, but I’m having a good time with this project

#25 5 years ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Totally get it. I wish I could find projects like this! I don’t have time to do the picking any more

I found the playfield at Texas Pinball Fest last year... it was pulled from a box truck that was full of project games and playfields, it was the most expensive playfield of all of them. The gameshow cabinet was a pick from a friend out of a mold infested basement, literally the email title was “ put on a respirator and try a game!” I had fastenal ship the game and I started collecting parts, miraculously I found everything but ramps and plastics.

I sanded and cleaned the head today, came out much better than anticipated thank God!

(I forgot to get a really good before pic of all the green mold under the metal back pane )

I hope I got it all right, I guess time will tell

I have lots of stuff working, pretty much everything except sound...

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ttr-sound-issues#post-5254100

#39 4 years ago
Quoted from Blackbeard:

Wait. Hold up.
You used a completely different wireharness and basically retrofitted it to work?!

Technically dozer is correct... I used a totally hacked up TTR harness, And sacrificed aNother badly hacked TTR harness for the lengths and colors of wire that I needed. I also used a Gameshow cabinet, that had all the incorrect wiring harness is for TTR. I did purchase TR cabinet harnesses, but many modifications needed to happen. And many pigtails for the connections had to be remade, and many connectors were rebuilt. There are about 75 wire splices to get everything copacetic. This game has eaten my lunch for the last two months

Leftovers and a few examples

Quoted from Pbpins:

I supplied that complete backbox door and the cabinet & backbox wiring harnesses which were all original TTR! It is looking very good & I am glad you are getting close now!

Yes, much thanks to you, those parts save me a lot of time!

Much thanks to dozer1 as well, this project would never have gotten off the ground without his willingness to send parts to me .

And Freeplay40 , His amazing abilities forming ramps, this project would have never seen the light of day. And this playfield would have just hung on a wall.

And vbobrusev producing the plastics, great guy

And the gentleman that produced the crossover ramp, I do not know his name. This project would not have happened without him either.

And the very amazing gentleman John Hampton that sent me the artwork files for the cabinet

And kaston1573 for the long hours of conversation and motivation and friendship pushing this forward.

And Godpinzilla for the countless pictures, phone calls and friendship to push this forward.

And Todd F, such a great guy and friend as well helping this along.

And custom affects in midland Tx doing the powder coat

There are so many people that are helping keep this rare game alive, I’m truly amazed. I could not let this play field stare at me knowing fully well there were so many people willing to help keep this going.

Quoted from Flipper_McGavin:

I randomly decided to play Transporter at Pin-A-Go-Go last night. Such an odd theme, and fun. Would be an exciting restoration project to do if these weren't so rare.

Awesome that you got to play one!

Believe me, this has been completely exciting, I mean probably the most exciting a project can get. All within the span of time that I have been working on this game, almost every unobtainable piece has become attainable; The artwork for the cabinet, the ramps, the plastics!!! Now if we could get someone to make the UN Orion ship

I should be in bed, but I’m having too much fun looking at this machine. I know it’s not finished yet but here are a few photos.

Also I modified the side art to have the alien hiding behind the logo.

My goofy printing company messed this up a little bit and cut the T’s off. Not that big of a deal, But I will most likely have them remake it for me soon. There will be flashers behind this that will interact with the game.

This was a game show head, that area usually says applause between the speakers on the speaker panel. So I re-purposed it and made lemonade out of lemons .

Wow. Incredible. I can’t fathom doing what you did. Great work!

Thank you, I can’t believe I went to this extreme myself.

Quoted from dozer1:

I was wondering what you were going to do with the "applause" sign. Sounds like a cool effect to have interacting flashers behind there.

Ha! I could have just left the applause sign up I guess.... And told everyone that they needed to applaud the player when the sign lit up, LOL

I got the Freeplay40 ramps in and they are amazing!!!

I had to modify the left one a tad because of the difference in this cabinet as opposed to an original, but no worries, it was easy.

Way to go Freeplay40!!!

I’m in the home stretch now

...

To do list:

Make apron decals
Make instruction cards possibly
Wire up ramp harness connectors
Fix 2 drop target optics
Build a mod for the shooter hole Mis cut
Test, burn in and play

With my miscut shooter hole, I decided to fill it with alien LED’s, they’re super bright, but it kept me from fixing the hole. Plus I lit up the flipper buttons while I was at it.

Call this lame or whatever, but it’s kinda neat; I put a few green ones to emulate the alien eyes from the playfield.
