Has anyone used transistor sockets on their circuit boards? I am having issues with a transistor driver that keeps blowing after 10 - 15 games. I've changed this thing three times, and I am afraid that I am going to damage the board due to the number of times I have to desolder and resolder. I'm not convinced yet that I have solved the problem.

Here's the socket I plan to use: TO-220 Transistor Sockets: Molex 09-48-3031. Thoughts?

I don't know anyone using them.
I have, once, soldered a machine pin SIP into a transistor location because the pads were nearly destroyed. It was better long term to tack solder a transistor to the machine pin socket lightly.

had the same problem with a data east, one of the pre-driver transistors, an a-13 if i remember right. anyway, i used the little power plug from an old PC , the one for the 3.5 inch floppy. worked well till i found the problem.

For power transistors, I don't recommend it.
09-48-3031 = old, obsolete socket. Current handling capability of this socket is far less than that of the transistor so you have a good chance that the socket may burn up before the transistor does.
