I did see #4 and I personally liked it more than the others, but that’s just me. I thought Forky was funny and Vincent(s) and the antique store was pretty creepy. If it’s going to be a kids’ theme, I wish it were Muppets, however. I was a big fan growing up. Gonna hold off for now, as I recently added a Wonka LE, which is a fun pin.

Or maybe his cousin, Jethro Hanks.

Jethro does a mean Rich Little.

WOZ has a crazy amount of mechs, cool molded toys like the witch, haunted tree pops and castle. 2 upper pfs. Spinning house toy. LCD crystal ball. Flying monkey. 2 innovative ball saves requiring skill to save your ball. I’ve owned WOZ twice and I always miss it when it’s gone! WOZ put JJP on the map and paved the way for healthy competition with Stern. WOZ was the pin that convinced me I needed to own a game…but just one.

I love JJP, (my very first pin was WOZ, I’ve owned a Hobbit, Wonka and DILE twice). I also love most Pat Lawlor games. I personally feel DI is an almost-masterpiece. I just don’t care for the cheesy callouts, animations and the tone. I absolutely love shooting that game. If I found the theme more compelling, it would be bolted down. That said, I still want to own one again!
Regarding Toy Story, I even like #4 a lot. But I just can’t get interested in this one, and I really wish Lawlor’s final pin was his magnum opus. His body of work is what we will remember. Bonkers vertical Banzai Run…early classics Earthshaker/Whirlwind…Rudy the ball swallower…back-to-back blockbusters -TAF and TZ…taking chances with Safe Cracker and Bud/Buzz…making fun pins in a slow era - Ripley’s, NASCAR, FG/Shrek (I love CSI) then AGAIN back-to-back hits after almost a decade away, DI/Wonka…Thanks, Pat!

I wonder if TS4 was intentionally simple to appeal to more casual players and kids. As many avid collectors there are out there like all of us, there must be sooooo many more casual players, newbies, kids and families that have never owned a machine. Just thinking out loud. Could that be the real target?

I heard Bond will simply be a Goldeneye reskin. New code tho. But it was from a completely unreliable source. And I made it up.

Quoted from snaroff:

Could definitely be the target. I just think it's foolish to think (many) casual players will have 12-15k to dump on a toy. The other problem is marketing a 12-15k toy to casual players...where? Pinball sales are dominated by operators, pinball nuts and distributors. Beatles was a simple game and the casual Beatles fans never turned out...sales were "meh". I owned Beatles for a few years and liked the 80's vibe, but the game overall was not very successful considering the limited number produced. JJP wants to produce many more than Beatles...

Agreed. Maybe JJP thought they would be reaching a wider audience with a more “approachable” game. It may have the reverse effect.

It has a knocker to Sterns' fake knocker

Some people like fake knockers, especially after a few beers. I prefer the real deal. More bang for your buck.

you can spend a lot and get a lot flatter experience.

Exactly!

Quoted from usandthem:

If you listen to Pinside, it’s a wonder that JJP is still in business. I’m not crazy about their games, but they must be doing something right. With how well their games are generally received around here, you would think the company would be on the ropes.

I think the prevailing sentiment on this thread is mostly negative about TS4, but do collectors really doubt the success of JJP overall? They have had a couple pins with mixed reviews upon release (DI and Wonka), but both those pins went on to do very well and are highly regarded by most now. WOZ was a beautiful first game, a loaded widebody pin with deep code that sold well. Hobbit is another beautiful widebody with deep code, but more wide open than WOZ and a bit floaty. POTC is an incredible pin. GNR was mostly well received. TS4 would probably be considered too easy or lacking toys/innovation no matter the price, but it’s just too pricy at $12 for an LE. It probably should have been $10 for the LE and $12.5 for the CE, but prices have steadily risen the past year or two. TS4 might turn out to be their first real misstep, but with their first 6 pins all in the top 50, they seem to be doing fine.

Hope he has more gas in the tank but pretty sure Stern isn’t missing him much.

Agreed. Stern added some very talented new blood to the roster in recent years, and still retained highly capable John Borg and George Gomez, who are still designing pins. With Elwin and Eddy, that’s a very solid team.
