One thing that may keep TS4 up is that it will be a relatively small run (especially compared to GNR).

I have also heard that it does well on location.

IMO - we are probably already near the bottom. I think it stays in the same price range as Wonka... and perhaps even a bit above (since it will be a smaller run and more recognizable theme).

Dialed in would have been much better received if they had called it

“Disaster in Quantum City” or “quantum city disaster “

And…. They fixed the scoring.

Ultimately it is the scoring that has caused me to lose interest (although we still own it). It’s basically start a mode and try to hit bing bang. Everything else is irrelevant…. Especially the multiballs.

TS4 is my favorite JJP game….I don’t have much time of Godfather, Hobbit, or PoTC… but I like it 100x over WOZ.

It is also our most popular game when non-pinheads come over. It and MM are usually the only games they spend much time on.

Quoted from TheLaw:

I've heard you mention this before, but how many Big bang's are you lighting in one game?

Only 2 or 3…. But… I find myself only going for them. It is a character flaw that I have!

#263 9 months ago
Quoted from mrossman5:

You actually get a lot more points if you play out the modes once you have some SIM cards stacked up. They act like a multiplier. I have had some near-million modes that would have been a lot less if I went for Big Bang.

For sure…. But even then… the game is pretty one dimensional

Quoted from Tranquilize:

Have you tried my tweaks to the rules mentioned in the DI thread? It makes it about the same difficulty as tz, so you need to open the Outlanes and make the slings sensitive. It balances the Bob modes and allows you to reach theatre mb more often. I actually try to complete Bob modes now as they make the mb worth a lot. The mb staffing is crazy fun too.
I've never nerfed a game before DI, but the default settings ruin the game. The balance just isn't there.

Great suggestion

Quoted from Doctor6:

I love dialed in, but the multiball points are borderline worthless. If they fixed that in the code I'd think it would be an all time favorite.

100%

#301 9 months ago
Quoted from Tranquilize:

Again, you just have to adjust the default rules. It makes it an entirely new game. I agree on the MB though. The jackpots are everywhere. If they did a theatre/sim combo super jackpot, it would be way better. JJP just doesn't write good code. Even their best games have mediocre code...

I just feel weird changing the scoring. It makes me feel like I am not playing the same game as everyone else. Worse than putting it on 5 ball. I know… that’s on me.

They just need to find a way to balance the scoring… since the modes are basically it… whether it is with a Big Bang or going for the disaster mode multipliers. The MB’s and the Bob modes are just novelties.

Dialed in is the anthesis of BM66.

Dialed In had the tech and a fun PF… but BM66 has the art, music, topper…. And most importantly… dynamic code that provides endless ways to play.

#340 9 months ago

Well for the record… TS4 is my favorite JJP game (I don’t have many games on TH, POTC, or TGF). I also enjoy Dialed In, but the code causes me to long periods without playing it.

I will say this about TS4…. It’s not everyone. The theme and music will be very hot or miss… and the game itself won’t be too challenging for good players.

#377 9 months ago

Since this entire thread has switched over to Dialed In...

I pointed out, what I think, are flaws in the rules... but it is not a bad game. It just suffers in lastability. If they evened out the scoring it would be a pretty epic game.

#384 9 months ago
Quoted from Tranquilize:

I begged the coder on the Google group to fix it. He strait up said no.
The game needs very little to fix it. Then it would be epic.

I don't get it. I am not exactly a pinball savant, and I can clearly see the problems with the code.

Quoted from arcyallen:

I'd like to remind you that's Munsters pricing now.
Munsters.
If that doesn't make you question your ability to predict pin pricing, I don't know what will.

And TS4 is a much better game than Munsters. I owned Munsters for 2 years and no one that visited really cared for it. Every non-pinball person who visits says that TS4 is their favorite game of ours.

#396 9 months ago
Quoted from m00nmuppet:

Yeah, I think that's ultimately it. Munsters did the theme proud and even did a massive code update after sales were done. TS4 will always have the stigma of JJP really f*cked their shot at the Toy Story license by going with 4 and a dark carnival pin with an iPad mini.

It has been strongly implied that JJP was forced to go with TS4

#441 8 months ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

If you like the theme, thats fine. Most people don't...like the overwhelming majority. Just because you're the exception to the rule on something doesn't make a statement generic.

Well from my experience, this is false. Whenever friends and family come to visit, TS4 is almost always their favorite. The theme may not resonate with older pinball people, but to non-pinball people it is a homerun. I have never had a single visitor say that they "didn't like" TS4. It might not be a pin for all of the tourney bro's, but if you are looking for a game to play with your non-pinball-family, it has to rank near the top.

#442 8 months ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

Its just weird that all the ts4 white knights are the guys who paid probably full price for one and are watching the value tank harder than gamestop stock. I'd probably feel the need to defend it as well. I wanna try it again outside of a convention atmosphere (although I'm really worried that I'll be able to hear it better, yikes!) , but man I haven't been this bored playing a pinball machine since star wars ep 1.

Well that doesn't describe me... I have never had mine up for sale, and I have no intention in selling it (and I didn't pay full price). I am not trying to troll, but seriously, when non-pinball people come over, that is the game they gravitate towards. It is not my favorite game - probably not even in the top-half of the games I own....but for some people.. the combo of the theme, lights, music, colors, and gameplay makes it, at least temporarily, their favorite.

#447 8 months ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

Well nobody has ever accused me of being smart, so I guess I just don't understand what kind of statement I could make that isn't generic.

I'm sure thats true, but what a bunch of normal non pinball folks gravitate to doesn't mean much of anything to me. If you had the super mario bros pin they'd gravitate toward that. Doesn't make that game any less terrible. Like I said to all of you, if you like the game thats awesome, I'm happy for you. Its nice to like games that aren't heavily favored by everyone else. Easy to aquire for a cheaper price (if you don't already own one), easier to be good at it since most others won't have spent as much time playing it, and I'm sure plenty of other benefits as well. Honestly it's a great time to pick up a ts4 if you don't already have one. CE for 7500 bucks? thats hard to pass up.

I am just saying that it's not true that everyone dislikes the theme. The world consists of vastly more non-pinball folks than those of us who play regularly. Finding a game that they enjoy is actually a pretty big accomplishment. Most of them who visit us don't even *try* to play a game of Godzilla.

#457 8 months ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

You know what, thats fair I suppose, but looking at your collection, its not surprising that ts4 is the theme normal folks (especially kids) are going to gravitate to. Like lets say a toy story game existed and it was placed next to the ts4, which one do you think they'd go for? I don't think that proves they necessarily "like" the theme, its just the most friendly to them given the choices they have. Just like when people go to the arcade and they run up to all the kiddy casino games and barber cuts and skill cranes and ignore all the actual fun games to play. Do they like the redemption stuff better? Probably not, they just don't know/care enough to know better they are just going to whatever flashy thing is calling to them.

But that's just it... the only genre of games I am missing are the rock band themes, and those are very hit or miss (and they all miss with me).

Prior to TS4 our top games for visitors were MM, AFM, and probably Champion Pub (which I traded for TS4). Rergardless, what games are more of a crowd pleaser than MM or AFM? I still have them both, and visitors still play them, but most say they prefer TS4 (with MM coming in a distant second). It kinda goes back to my review on TS4. The game is not for everyone, but you will probably know within the first 30 seconds if you like it or not.

#459 8 months ago
Quoted from usandthem:

If you traded Champion Pub straight up for TS4, you definitely did well as Champion Pub seems to be a $5500-6K game right now. Champion Pub does not seem well-liked around here either. I really like it though and would buy one in a sec if I found a good one around here. Very rare and anything WPC-95 is worth having in my book.

I didn't - I added a DE JP... and that was for a TS4 LE. I then added some cash and traded he LE for a CE.

We enjoyed CP.... but it is more of a change of pace type of game. So after awhile, it didn't get played much.
