Quoted from Rarehero:

Agreed...I put a few games on it, and was just kinda waiting for it to be over so I could move on.

So Im curious bored how?

You played a few games which implies at least 3…but from your post sounds like you were done with the game after 2, and the third game was more an attempt to like the game?

Something drew you to the game, the fact that it was new, or something else?

Curious as I guess I could bash a lot of games if I used that format. Especially Twilight Zone…

What makes a game awesome using your approach of a few games?

Thanks for sharing!

This is probably not a great thread for people who spent $25k on a TS4 and love it.

I was at a local arcade that had all the new games, and I was playing them all. I'm either compelled to keep playing a game, or I'm not. In TS4's case, I wasn't. Just found the carnival theme with a loose Toy Story skin & app-like sounds/music to be super boring. Sorry, it wasn't for me. If you enjoy it, cool. Bash what you want. I'm not here to validate your tastes.

If anybody wants to sell me ANOTHER CE for $7500 please hit me up. $8750 is the cheapest LE I've seen.

Smokin’ deal. Fun all day at that price.
Congrats!

Sorry, I didn’t get that deal LOL. I meant I’d just received my TS yesterday but if I found one at $7500 I’d buy another one because yeah, that’s a heck of a deal

Quoted from NC_Pin:

I am just saying that it's not true that everyone dislikes the theme. The world consists of vastly more non-pinball folks than those of us who play regularly. Finding a game that they enjoy is actually a pretty big accomplishment. Most of them who visit us don't even *try* to play a game of Godzilla.

You know what, thats fair I suppose, but looking at your collection, its not surprising that ts4 is the theme normal folks (especially kids) are going to gravitate to. Like lets say a toy story game existed and it was placed next to the ts4, which one do you think they'd go for? I don't think that proves they necessarily "like" the theme, its just the most friendly to them given the choices they have. Just like when people go to the arcade and they run up to all the kiddy casino games and barber cuts and skill cranes and ignore all the actual fun games to play. Do they like the redemption stuff better? Probably not, they just don't know/care enough to know better they are just going to whatever flashy thing is calling to them.

Quoted from Requis:

Yeah I’d say you’re a smart dude! You found your way here and are participating in an open forum and sharing your opinion which is awesome. All I meant to say is in your post you’re using general terms to lump everyone into one bucket including me and others who could be in the minority but actually do still like the theme and the game and would fall out side of your general statement. And then again either intentionally or just making a generic classification of me by putting me in another bucket and labeling me a white Knight (and I’m really not that noble, ask my kids lol) and again not defending the game just sharing that i like the theme and the game
To share my perspective the game landed in my game room at just over $25K Canadian. And as a Canadian just to spend $25K on something means that im actually giving up on over $50K time value of money.
Which is why i thought this thread was interesting to see what people, you and others considered to be a low water mark and the perceived value.

I get that, but again, I understand there are people who like the game and the theme, speaking in generalities (I get it now) covers the widest spectrum and is done constantly. If people had to be like 100% specific and be like ok 95% of people don't like the theme, 2.35% are indifferent/don't care, 1.65 of people like it, and 1% love it, we'd never get anything done. I think almost anyone with a brain understands that when somebody says "nobody likes xxxx" its a given that theres a few exceptions out there, and its unnecessary to point that out. If you enjoy the game, and want to point that out to people and try to convert a few more, I'm perfectly happy with that. I hope you succeed! Honestly I wish I could say its a fine game and JJP/PL didn't completely drop the ball on it but I just gotta call it how I see it as well.

For me, I played one game, it lasted for what seemed like forever and I was like man this is boring. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity the game ended. I thought it was awful but I thought back to all the people that said "once you get to know it, it gets a lot better" "it takes a bit to get used to" ect and decided I needed to give it another chance. I did that and actually tried to play well and get through the game as much as I could given the circumstances. This game lasted even longer and by about halfway through ball 2 I was really questioning my decision. The game lasted even longer and I couldn't wait to be finished. I got the duke kaboom ramp, I even got the video pinball mode, multiballs, ect. Put my name in as score #1 and walked away. Before I left, things had cleared out substantially and for whatever reason I thought I needed to try one more time with a fresh mind. Nope. Walked away after ball 2.

Would I like to try it again? Yes. Especially a multiplayer game with some friends. Even though I tried hard on my second game and saw what I felt was a decent chunk of the game, I would like to try it and have a better understanding because even then a lot of it was just shooting the blinky shot or doing what I felt was a pinball standard, I will freely admit I don't have a strong understanding of the rules. Do I have high hopes that my mind will change? No I do not.

But that's just it... the only genre of games I am missing are the rock band themes, and those are very hit or miss (and they all miss with me).

Prior to TS4 our top games for visitors were MM, AFM, and probably Champion Pub (which I traded for TS4). Rergardless, what games are more of a crowd pleaser than MM or AFM? I still have them both, and visitors still play them, but most say they prefer TS4 (with MM coming in a distant second). It kinda goes back to my review on TS4. The game is not for everyone, but you will probably know within the first 30 seconds if you like it or not.

If you traded Champion Pub straight up for TS4, you definitely did well as Champion Pub seems to be a $5500-6K game right now. Champion Pub does not seem well-liked around here either. I really like it though and would buy one in a sec if I found a good one around here. Very rare and anything WPC-95 is worth having in my book.

I didn't - I added a DE JP... and that was for a TS4 LE. I then added some cash and traded he LE for a CE.

We enjoyed CP.... but it is more of a change of pace type of game. So after awhile, it didn't get played much.

Have a friend that is interested in a new TS4. Best place to get it? Also what would be the correct price given the market?

Asking in the owner's forum will likely get you better answers than here.

Looks like around $9000 or maybe even slightly less for an LE right now. There's a ton in the archive history for more, but they're "not sold" or "decided to keep" (i.e. mostly asking price too high) for the most part.

Have him find one on location and play it 100 times first.

Under 7K is reasonable. Just ask him first if he can stand having a pin in wich the main toy is a screen that plays 40 year old computer pinball.

Dont you worry.

Btw, gotta love that tiki pinball, it really is the piece de resistance of the machine.

If hes trying to buy new for whatever reason, the market price isn't going to change much. NIB price is still 12k msrp so expect to pay around that, and lose several thousand dollars in value immediately. I'm sure a distro would cut you a deal to take one off their hands but theres only so much they can do. If he wants to save some money and do what I would consider to be the wise move, then he can buy one used from any of the ones listed all over the internet. Tons of them used for sale, nobody wants em.

That Zach Meny dude doesn't even want to take one in on trade, and a CE to boot lol. I don't like the game at all and can't believe people paid those crazy prices.

This dude is happy to take anything in on trade if the value makes sense for us to. At the time of our trade-in evaluation, we had two of them we had already recently taken in on trade, which ultimately affected our quoted value.

So if the price is right, send this dude all of your Toy Story CE games. I still have my personal one and love it.

#473 10 months ago

Seems like a good deal for someone that wants a TS4CE, 11,500 plus shipping has to be 12k at most. I thought CEs were 15k new.

"Were" is the operative word. Both LE and CE are tough to unload, so they've fallen in price a LOT. An undesirable pin at a desirable price is still net net undesirable. There's a reason it's undesirable.

Its cool dude, no need to explain yourself. It makes total sense that a dealer wouldn't want another ts4 clogging up their operation.

Turns out he went back and played TS and GF side by side for about two hours. In the end he picked GF.

Actually, in retrospect, I wish I had been able to do that before buying GnR. I have yet to find a JJP game on route though that has played anywhere near as nicely as they subsequently have in my home.

Man I can get a CE for 10,500 it is killing me as I think this would be a great game for non pinheads. Is it that simple people may really enjoy it to start learning how to play pinball. Or put it at my dads house. He has a MB and JB there. Love his bash for over a year but now plays Bond mostly.

I hate buying one since one dealer alone has 5 NIB still. If JJP lets them drop the MSRP 2k TS4 CE will definitely be down below the 10k threshold.

I know I will be buying one of these but want the best deal of course, had one once and I did not lose money on it.

Well, if you want "the best deal" buy a nice used one. It's a fun pin, it's GREAT for non-pinheads, and if JJP lowers the MSRP so be it. Seeing as there's already a $4500 gap between the price of a NIB CE and a used one, I don't think the MSRP is dictating much at this point.
