Quoted from Nuclear_Waste:This last weekend, we completed the first tournament for the Ozark Pinball Syndicate in Springfield, MO. We had 22 people turn out, which was better than expected for this area's inaugural event. http://www.ozarkpinballsyndicate.com
We did random seed into a double elimination brackets with best 2 out of 3 to advance--coin flip picks the first machine, loser picks the next.
And there was a question that came up. When doing a "best 2 out of 3" format, is it standard to allow going back to a machine in the match? For instance, if player A wins the first game, then loses the second, can they choose to return to the first machine for game three?
Seems to me that this should not be allowed as it appears to give an advantage to the coin flip winner if they choose a machine that they are extremely proficient on.
What have you seen in other tournaments? Is there a "standard" rule for this? Thanks!
Wow, double-elim 2 out of 3 must have taken a long time!
Generally it isn't allowed to replay the same game in the same round. This was allowed in a league I play in for quite some time and IMO it just isn't good. In one season, a particular player dominated just playing MM over and over, which he'd spent several months playing non-stop. He is a very good player regardless, but the option to replay the same game pretty much made him unstoppable at that league final. Even though he isn't a one-trick pony, that's the impression people got anyway.
