Powers on but doesn't start a game. Everything looks good except for a disconnected knocker coil and corresponding bad knocker driver transistor on the driver board. Not worried about the knocker not working. Just trying to get the game to boot. Has a Ni-Wumpf MPU board.

Here's what I have:
Power on get one LED flicker on MPU (Ni-Wumpf)
Pause then several seconds of sound/tune
Kick out hole fires once
Shows “GAME OVER”
All displays working alternating zeros then high score
Display shows 4 credits
Start Button does nothing.
Any specific testing guidance appreciated.

Start button switch issue?

Can you add credits? Are there ball(s) in the trough?

Start button switch issue?

I don't see anything unusual at the start button.

I cannot add credits. There is one ball in the trough.

You should have all balls in the game.
Go to switch test ... T1 and push the start button and see if it works.

I think he has a Totem, not TOTAN

I have one ball in the trough. How many should I have? The test switch doesn’t do anything. Is there some testing I can do on the no-wumpf to see if it’s working?

I’ll take it.

one ball in the game

I reseated all the connections. All the connectors look fairly new. The traces on the boards are excellent. When I rebooted the high score now shows "0" and the credits now shows 35. The ball in play display has changed several times each time I reboot. But pressing the start button does nothing.

Can anyone recommend a tech that works on the ni-wumpf?

check connector A1-j6 ,

A1-J6 is good. Also rang out the wires from the credit button to A1-J6. I think something is fried on the MPU board from the voltage feedback to the MPU during the locked on solenoid event.

Do you have access to another system 1? A locked on coil rarely affects the mpu. It usually just blows out the transistor on the driver board.

In this case a switch tester would be handy. I am not sure if you can test the switch matrix on a system 1 with a jumper wire like a Williams.

How is the diode on the credit button line?

Check and make sure if one if the coin switches might be stuck closed.

The NiWumpf has a setup from the coin door. Check the troubleshooting/setup in this guide.

Sounds like a goner. I'll take it off your hands and dispose of it properly.

You can contact support by email and maybe they will give you some advise.

No, I don't have another System 1 board. According to the Ni-Wumpf website, a locked on solenoid can/likely will damage MPU board.

Checks the same as the other diodes (these are the ones located on the cabinet base, correct? I don't see any other diodes on this line).

They are both open.

I cannot get into the setup program. I think the system needs to boot complete first. Also, you provided the system guide for the MkII. I have the original Ni-Wumpf board.

Thanks. I'll set it out by the curb tonight. Come get it

I sent the email this morning to them hoping for support. Meanwhile, keep the suggestions/troubleshooting tips coming.

check your slam tilt switches as well, especially the one on the coin door. it is normally closed, make sure it has good contact, one my home use I actually just solder the two wires together. if it is in slam tilt it can't start a game, although I don't know if ni-wumpf has a setting to ignore the slam tilt switches.
