I had the same problem on my NGG.
IIRC, the fix was just to trace all the dead sockets back to the first dead one; you should find a Daisy Chain there--and reinserting the wires should do the trick, but if they're burnt/brittle, you should replace ultimately replace the string.
Bay Area sells the correct color-coded wiring.
