Things I'd check first - bad 5V on the sound/display board, bad interconnect cables to the MPU. If there was nothing obviously wrong, I'd do some 5V remediation, just to make sure. Then I'd start wondering about ROM sockets, though that doesn't sound so likely. Anyone else have any ideas?
