Dang, a wealth of information! Thank you!

I have one installed but it is beat to death, a small center area is what is left level with the playfield. I'm going to at least rebuild all of the coils and replace the sling switches (they have almost no contact left on them) so figure I should fix this guy up too. At least to have one standing by.

Does the adjustable one need a nut to lock the post in place? I ask because I found this Stern decal which has a similar mechanism and shows the nut.

So it looks like these are the options:

Threaded core and threaded post:
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-16460
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/02-4773

Or one of these. Marco uses the same picture, not sure if that means they are the same or just similar.
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-15257 (Marco's site references this part when you look at related products for the A-16460, so I'm wondering if that is the right size, non-adjustable. I mean, I'm fine with non-adjustable, seems like it hasn't needed adjustment in 23 years.

https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-8485

Dirty Harry lists A-16460 but doesn't list the post, lol.

--- Edit, searching different terms paid off. HEP to the answer: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/totan-tiger-magnet-not-flush-with-playfield

So looks like I just need to find the nut or size. Gonna bet that local big box home improvement does not have that nut. Looks like a 3/4 or something nut used in framing brackets and bolts but I am guessing it is fine threaded and not something they would have in that size? Maybe to match their threaded rod.

Edit 2 - I think this is the nut? https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/4428-01135-00 Or maybe this, look like the same thread size and pitch: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/240-5315-00

I believe this bracket is for a smaller diameter (O.D.) magnet, and Marco is using the wrong picture. It's the magnet bracket for under the mini-playfield on TZ, and won't work for TOTAN.

Yes, this is the correct nut that you listed:

Where did you find an original new? I’m good with the TZ as the original wasn’t in stock anywhere

Thanks @seatmandan!

I believe these are the correct pieces now for the TZ adjustable magnet bracket, nut and post to replace the TOTAN part A-18157:

Yup, as mentioned I have that one installed - works great. Wondering where Seadman got the original bracket from. It appears from the pictures he has a new one

I bought it back in early 2016, when I restored my TOTAN.
I have yet to install it, as I recall I just filed down the one that came with the game and left it in there.

Ok, yeah they don’t stock the original anymore. Otherwise I’d pick up an extra. The TZ works great though so I’m good for now

I just joined the club over the weekend.

I first played this game while on a business trip to Omaha several years ago and just had a blast. Fast forward to a year ago, I got to play a gorgeous example of a TOTAN at a new friends house and immediately called "dibs" if he were ever to sell it.

Over the last year its been on my wish list and I've seen a couple come up for sale here and there, but the rare time one came up anywhere close to me it seems like someone else snatched it up before I even had a chance, lol.

All that changed when I saw an FB post my friend that he was considering putting his up for sale to make room for incoming new games.

This thing is a beauty, it looks like it was fully restored several years back (before repro PF's were available)

- Brass plated everything (you know someone means business when they even plate the brackets behind the machine, lol)
- Active topper
- Invisiglass
- Plastics look new so I assume repro
- Ramps look new and the plastic is thick so I assume repro
- All LED's with both OCD boards
- Lit speaker panel. This one I am not sure about. The original came with it as well so I can swap back to original after I have some time to think about it.

Eventually, I'd like to swap in a new PF and either re-decal or radcal it (notice the old school leg protectors, there is a little wrinkling damage under/around those)

Super stoked to have this in my collection. I am working my way through reading this thread and enjoying every minute of it so far.

Great looking TOTAN. Do share some closeups of the topper tho. I have the interactive sword but the casing is nice

#1562 4 years ago

That’s a beauty! Congratulations!

Forgot to share the close up of the topper. Basically looks like a WH20 topper dome with the sword topper mod, lights and a back drop. Looks to be very well made.

One thing I am noticing, I occasionally (1 in 20 games?) hear the call out "boys will be boys" and the DMD has some dude sneaking through the harem, it then says Harem multi-ball but nothing happens, sometimes it will keep doing that back to back, so I know something is off. Hitting it back through the pops seems to stop this.

I am going to guess a switch or opto needs to be adjusted. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

#1565 4 years ago

I am going to start blowing up this thread, lol. TOTAN for me is a keeper, mine is basically fully restored sans new PF.. eventually, I will want to swap in a new one. I see both CPR and Mirco have them.

Any opinions on which is the superior remake?

Not looking to start a shit storm, just curious to hear from other owners who have used either. I used mirco's for both my funhouse and soon to be starting on the swap for my WH20. Both look solid to me.

Hi guys,

Can someone please post a detailed photo of the plunger on the vanishing magnet? The manual and the other photos in this thread show an E clip being used to hold the bottom spring in place. However mine was held in place by a screw and nut. I can't see how I would mount an E clip here as there is no ring or divots in the plunger where a clip would sit.

Also, is the connector meant to be attached to the hold or the power windings of the coil?

Bazaar award, "3X Lamp Scoring" does this just multiply lightning lamp? Or will it give you three spins per spin on non-lightning lamp?

I'm trying to maximize my bonus. I don't want to choose 3x lamp scoring if it's only for a lightning lamp.

Anyone?

Thanks.

#1568 4 years ago

I got the above issue sorted. Found a washer that I installed on the plunger instead of an E clip.

However, now my main issue is that the magnet vibrates and shakes a lot when grabbing the ball at the start of a tale. Almost feels like a shaker motor! I tightened up the entire assembly and it is nice and solid. But still, for some reason, it shakes when holding the ball. Vanishing works as intended. Any ideas?

Just scoring. Can be insane points. My record is over 30 million for one multiplied lightning round. Only way to advance lamp spins is the lamp and a random Bazaar award.

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me where the decal set pictured in this ad is from?

Greetings All,
Having an issue with the Harem Sneak-in hole in the far back of playfield. Ball drops into the hole, into the subway that is supposed to shoot it out of the Bazaar scoop but it is getting stuck in the subway. It is getting stuck directly below the hole that it falls into. I only way to get it out is to fish it out from above the playfield, into the hole with a magnet. It seems like the ball should just roll down the subway, from back to front, via gravity and then shoot out of the Bazaar scoop but something it causing it to get stuck. Anyone have this issue? Driving me nuts!!!

thanks in advance.

That happens to me sometimes. I got it to go down the subway correctly 95% of the time by unscrewing the subway support screws right after the entrance a little bit. Not the one at the very end, but the two Further down the playfield. Just enough the pitch the ramp downwards a bit more.

#1574 4 years ago

Anyone have an extra TOTAN wire ramp? I am in need of one...Let me know! Thanks!

Anybody have a lead on a TOTAN??? I’ve been looking for awhile in CA and coming up with nothing.....

Thanks! I tried that but like you said, I did it the opposite way by trying to tighten it towards the top where the ball drops, not in the middle. Good suggestion. There isn’t an optic anywhere in there is there? Wondering if it needs cleaned or something. Nothing more frustrating than getting to the end to fight the genie and everything comes to a screaming hault by getting stuck!

Hello all I have made the sword topper with pcb board ,my design for everyone who will attempt to remake.
I have used cat5 cable that unfortunately it was white so I had to put the entire cable in heat shrink so it can blend with the inside color of the back box.
Also made a support bracket from a piece of lexan I had laying around.
Total cost is 25$
Enjoy

Hello all I have made the sword topper with pcb board ,my design for everyone who will attempt to remake.
I have used cat5 cable that unfortunately it was white so I had to put the entire cable in heat shrink so it can blend with the inside color of the back box.
Also made a support bracket from a piece of lexan I had laying around.
Total cost is 25$
Enjoy

Thank you
Make me an offer I have another two guys they are also interested.

If anyone is interested in this topper PM me, I'm gonna sell it as I'm making a different one for my game. Cobwebs not included.

On a side note, how quickly/often do you get the fireball thing? It seems like every few ramp shots starts this mode for me, which seems way too often?

Ha Ha Ha,
Enjoy some Totan remake photos.
I liked the idea how wpc 89 games are that you remove only the back glass and the lamp board opens like a door , so I implemented this idea on my Totan.

That door is nice! So did you build a TOTAN from scratch? Looks like new playfield and many parts but I assume original wiring harness?

All from scratch and by the book ,no difference at all.
I was tired looking around and finding beat up games or asking for crazy money,so I build it new nos parts only nothing used.

Wow that is awesome. So where did you get all of the ball guides for your scratch build?

There are wiring harnesses available? That seemed to be the hardest thing to build a TAF

Wiring can be made identical by using another wiring from any game from 80s up to 2000 ,or getting the basic color and using it through a guide to color with sharpee ,but even if you are not able to make It you can get the basic color of the wire and add a heat shrink band for the second color.
Doing this is just to identify the cables so when you go back on the manual you know what you are looking for.

Ah cool. I toyed with doing a TAF or TOTAN but the time just to find the parts and put it all together seemed exorbitant. What kind of time do you have invested? Cabinet from scratch or existing?

All the time a stay home dad can invest when the baby is sleeping
I can’t say for sure I started Totan on 2017 Jan and completed on sep 2018

Hello everyone

I have a question regarding a TOTAN i currently have on loan from a buddy, in exchange for fixing a couple of issues with it.

I have it fully working now, but one thing bothers me about it:

Whenever the long left diverter under the ramp is pulled and in hold mode, there is a loud hum or "rattle sound". Placing my fingers/hand on the diverter itself above the playfield doesn't change anything. So i am pretty sure the noise is coming from the mechanism under the playfield. Unfortunately i can't get under the playfield to check it out, while still triggering it above the playfield. And the short bursts in test mode doesn't produce the sound.

As far as i can tell, the assembly is nice and tight everywhere, with no loose screws or anything.

Has anyone experienced this, and know of a fix or where to start?

Thanks. Great machine btw. Wish i owned one myself...

Mine does that. Not sure if its normal per se, but its the coil holding. Sounds like a bathroom fan

Same here to, confirmed.
It is just a coil hold humm.
Wonder if an eos type stop could be used?

Rebuild the assembly to tighten up all the looseness (rattling) and turn up the game volume to muffle the humming sound. TOTAN has GREAT sound.

Yeah good point. If you can hear the hum, your TOTAN isn’t at 11
