Good luck with the restoration. It looks like there is a bit of work ahead of you. I look forward to seeing your updates.

Thanks , yeah this isn't going to happen over night , I just started the playfield and there will be a decent amount of hours involved with this .
First step (after cleaning ) is sanding . Need to remove old clear from the areas where wood shows so the clear I apply will be uniform in color. Sanded the whole playfield , removed flaky paint and leveled the planking areas where the grain had raised .
Sorry Dave , no retheme on this one , just trying to make it look as good and close to original as I can .
Awesome! How tough will all of that key lining be? What crazy person would go this far on an old em?

All done by measurements ,it won't be easy but all the screening will be done on top of a sanded coat of clear if placement is off I simply wipe off the print with a cleaner and try again . As for crazy people , I think it crazy to not have an EM in a collection.
What kind of paint/ink are you using and how will you apply it? Silkscreening ink or airbrushing paint or . . .
Automotive paint , airbrush for the smaller areas minijet spraygun for the larger areas . Text will be silkscreened with acrylic.
wow, you are going balls deep. This is going to be a very involved restoration. I'd have to charge a fortune to go this deep on a field in this bad of shape to start.
Inserts were not too bad . Just flat sanding and clear coat to level them out . I will be back on this project again soon . I have a few projects I'm currently working on ,trying to not fall to far behind on any of them .
This is some crazy good work. How do you cut the frisket to get such perfect masking areas without cutting the playfield?
Some of the masks are cut off the playfield with my vinyl cutter . The ones I cut on the playfield I just make sure I have a very sharp blade on my knife and cut them carefully . If I do happen to cut into the playfield I can bury the cuts with the next coat of clear . Black outlines will be the last thing painted on and they can hide some imperfections . Some areas on this playfield there is no black lines between colors . The most difficult black outlines to do will be the ones around the roll over switches where the wood shows through .
Ok it has been a crazy 4 months , but I am finaly getting some time to get back on this .
Got some of the more detailed shapes ready to cut stencils , here is test cuts for the arrows and slings . Placed the part that will be removed from the stemcil onto the playfield to make sure my sizing is correct .
That is crazy, in a good way of course. Amazing job. Keep it up! A bit sad I got here only partway through and not when it was fully done, was loving reading through the whole thread until I hit the bottom, oh no!
