We drove to Ayce Gogi in Los Angeles this afternoon to play a production game.

Played well! Just the same as the proto game. Only issue with this one was the pop spoon switch needed a little adjustment as it didn’t always register/fire. Which made it tricky to destroy a reactor when the pop was the chosen “destroy” shot.

We only had time for 4 games but I got three reactors destroyed in the final game.

Just before we left, the owner doomid came in and we had a nice chat about pins and his cool setup. Nice!

This is a known DE pop bumper thing. Suggestion for anyone getting this game came to me thanks to the owner/OP at Tilt in MN >> Just put an extra washer on the bottom of the pop bumper ring arms. Put the washer below the fiber and metal part in order to raise the ring height just slightly. You may need 2 washers depending on tickness of your washers.

This allows a little more space between the skirt and the ring so a ball coming in can move the skirt a little more (before getting stopped by the ring) and cause a switch closure on the spoon. 2 min tweak to make the pop bumper much more reactive.

Just got back from playing TNA at Tilt in Minneapolis. It just reaffirmed that I have never been so sure about getting a new game! Even when it sits next to a new premium Star Wars and Attack.
#77. Will be picked up in person.

#3771 6 years ago

Please listen to Whysnow comments about fine tuning the game...
The pop bumper was dead compared to the prototype.
Slings where not as active, but I’m sure that’s a leaf switch adjustment.
Plus I saw one opto error in the reactor scoop.

I'm not sure why Spooky cannot fix this as a stock build? Are they not aware of this problem?

This is just tuning... not faults. Variations that could be just from how the qa guys test, etc. something to learn from, but not like zOMG how did they miss that....

#3776 6 years ago

I wouldn't say it's a problem necessarily. I would imagine adjusting the gaps on the switches is all it would take.

#3777 6 years ago
Quoted from rai:

this is NOT a problem. Just an adjustment.

If anything, Spooky is super on top of everything, even the small stuff to try and continually improve and even make adjustments like gaping a pop switch...

Over time (esp under heavier play on route) things need adjustment as they work in.
My pop was fine when I got it, as was the one at TILT in MN. Games get played and switches bend out of adjustment; that is reality. Fine tuning is something the owner/end user is responsible for.

Lastly, lets not forget that on route things only get adjusted and fixed when they are reported and after the tech has time to get to it. Collectors are often hyper critical of route games (even ones that are well maintained like they are at TILT) but reality is that players need to #1 tell the operator and #2 realize that some things take fiddling with to get them just right and every game has to settle in on route for the first few months.

#3778 6 years ago

I won't say any of this is a setup issue. Every new game I have got need some switch adjustments. Spooky uses a stiff switch for the slings. Takes a bit of tweaking but hold up better in the long run. Go to a GB forum and see recommended parts for a nib game. I figure you have $50 in parts for a GB premium. So far 2 washers for a TNA. Got it $.10.

Could you recommend where to go to learn how to do these adjustments? New to this. Thanks.

I’m sure they will. These are from the first batch. Small issues like this are always found and fixed moving forward, note AMH and how they kept improving them throughout the build to make them more robust.

First get a switch adjustment tool on your next pinball life order. I like theirs bettering hand Marco.

http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=1518

Both these adjustments can be done on any pinball. I do have some lazy bumpers on tommy (DE). Pinball Mayhem will put a video together for you. I have a video planned that will cover this.

Plus stay tuned for some PM videos specific to TNA very soon on YouTube.

Thanks to operator feedback, Spooky is fully aware of a couple small issues that have come up. All production games made from now, will have these issues addressed.

Thanks.

This is what I love regarding Spooky, I had STLE and had drop target reset issue which required washers to fix but my understanding was Stern was never addressing this issue, I mean this was just a recurring issue with Stern drop targets they just didn't care to make any effort to fix, just a service bulletin.

Here is the issue with Stern drop targets, they go back to a 2006 service bulletin, you can see people having the same issue with AcDc, Avengers, WPT, ST etc. instead of fixing the drop targets Stern expects the end users to install washers.

There will also be a delivery/setup option. Pay the designer and manufacturer $5 each and they will not only deliver your game, but they will also set it up for you.
