    10. Should I add some powder-coated armor?
    9. Pro, Premium or LE?
    8. Will there be a code update soon?
    7. Which LEDs should I use?
    6. Will I get my money back from my $1000 in mods?
    5. Will this audio track get on my nerves?
    4. Should I put some better clearcoat on my factory clearcoat?
    3. Are the outlanes too mean?
    2. Is it worth $250 to add a topper to this game?
    1. Will I scratch the cab if I take it to a show?

Avid SS and DMD collector here, but I can't help but muse on how much easier it is to collect EMs.

    Learning deep rule sets

    Using outdated licenses

EM collectors don't have to worry about remakes either.

    Lucky bastards!

Gosh, need to change the batteries soon!

    #5 9 years ago

Is this dead machine in the seller basement going to cost me a few hundred dollars extra because the leaking batteries ate every trace on the board within 2" of them?

You forgot #11 In a hundred years from now a EMs will still work. Silicon chips will be long dead .

    11. Will it be worth $10k by Xmas?

    #8 9 years ago

    We already have it!

Will I have enough time to take a sip of my drink while the end-of-ball bonus counts down?

Except for the part about paying more for shipping than you do for a machine. That can throw a wrench in your gears sometimes.

    I must be dumb. I don't get #1?

Ditto. Top ten lists usually save the most clever reason for #1.

    #18 9 years ago

I once relieved someone of a "Flintstones" machine, so I can give my #1 reason from personal experience; "I want this game, but do I want to incur a double hernia getting it out of this basement?"

    #0 Running out of Beer!

Don't have to worry about putting the game in storage never playing the game and trying to flip after three months for a $2000 profit

I'm guessing he meant that no one worries about their EM getting destroyed by players at a show vs a DMD era pin. I've seen people be pretty rough on ALL pins at shows, so I must be missing it too.

    #22 9 years ago

Yeah...was gonna say, there were a good chunk of EM's at TPF this year, and a good portion of that were really nice.

    #23 9 years ago

    15: obsessing over shooter lanes...
    16: can i fix it?

yup... although a part of me wishes that we did... it would be very cool to rip open the box on an em...

possibly he meant that em's stand up to abuse better? there was no shortage of them at the allentown show...

    #26 9 years ago

    No board issues!

    Quoted from John_I:

Edited for clarity...actually what I like about any older pin is that they come "pre-loved". An EM with a perfect cab is almost unnatural.

    #28 9 years ago

17: we don't have to deal with fs ads like this one...

    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/cq-sample-prototype-cirqus-voltaire-10995-obo#post-1757837

although i guess i could put "huo for the last x years" in my next fs post (amoungst other things)... as well as someone pop in and shill for me...

    #29 9 years ago

18: Don't need to keep track of a lot of machine name abbreviations like STTNG, TZ, WoZ, TAF, LOTR, MM...

    #30 9 years ago

With a few exceptions, high prices. EMs are a tremendous bargain.

    #31 9 years ago
    Quoted from SealClubber:

Will it be worth $10k by Xmas?

    You might be surprised.

    #32 9 years ago

Transporting EMs is much easier! Removing the head is so simple!

    #33 9 years ago

I just figured out that I can store 4 EMs under my 2 rows of pins...nice.

    Not to sure about that
the last EM I got came with all the paperwork, it was labeled ACD

Top 10 reasons I collect EMs Vs everything else.

    10. When I get on pinside I don't have to deal with that many trolls in the EM section.
    9. There is not a huge population going after the pins I want from the 60's. Most collectors already have them, they are dead, or in a nursing home. Then again sometimes people that used to collect EMs have moved onto SS, Alpha Numeric or DMD pins.
    8. For the most part they are easy to fix and they are bullet proof (for the most part)
    7. There are places that still sell either NOS or re-produced parts, playfields, back glasses, plastics. metal doors, bumper caps etc.
    6. The rule sets are easy but challenging.
    5. The artwork is amazing and sometimes breath taking.
    4. They are lighter and easier to transport.
    3. When people come to my house they are always a conversation starter whether they like playing pinball or not.
    2. They are FUN! You always are left on the brink of "Just one more game!"
    1. The price...For the most part the pins I want can be had for 1200-1800 on average for a better than player condition pin or slightly higher for a pin that is in collector condition or fully restored. (2000-3000 dollar range) This is versus a 5k-10k DMD. I would have only ONE pin if I had saved my money for a DMD. Instead of have 3 high quality rare EMs that are almost worth the price of a Star Trek LE.

    #36 9 years ago

    11. What game will the next color DMD be for and when will it be issued?

    #37 9 years ago
    Quoted from Craig:

With a few exceptions, high prices. EMs are a tremendous bargain.

You can always sell a tired one as a "gilt edged winner."

    #38 9 years ago

    17. having to look at your friend's initials for years while you try to beat their score
    18. balls getting magnetized
    19. polishing ramps

    #39 9 years ago

    20. Autographed or signed plastics, playfields, or back glasses

    #40 9 years ago

#21 Any shortage of Magic Erasures and 91% iso. alc.

Yeah, on an EM those are carved into the cabinet.

OK makes sense now! Even on a game someone has stenciled they should still have some of the paint to use for touch up.

Which transistor is locking on the solenoid.

    #49 9 years ago

Having to order obscure parts and wait for them to come in. Usually you can get an EM working with some sandpaper and a soldering iron.

    LOL ODIN! LOL!
