I've always collected Gottliebs but several here like the '60 - '67 era of Williams 2" flipper games. What are some of your favorite titles? If one comes up for sale here locally I might try one out someday.

Edit: Changing date range to '59 - '67 to add Rocket

#11 9 years ago
Quoted from Pinballprowess:

I've tried to compose a response three times... and deleted it three times.
I guess, I just can't do it... kind of like trying to list your favorite kids.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Just list all of them and we'll call it a tie - no harm done

#12 9 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

1962 Williams King Pin.
Hands down the best Bowling Themed Pin IMO for Gameplay/Ruleset.
I'm sure Glen Peters will highly approve, as well as myself.
Also Heat Wave is pretty high up on my list.
Trade Winds looks like fun too. Sorry, can't come up with 10.
Ken

Thanks Ken - don't need 10!

#23 9 years ago
Quoted from Pinballprowess:

If that's the case, hoov... you can always check out the sixties Williams games that I have. They are listed on two different sites, Mr. Pinball and Pinball Owners. All titles were targeted... and then sought after.

I copied and pasted Pinballprowess's collection and wishlist below...........

Williams EMs: Spot Pool, Rocket, Nags, Ten Spot, Space Ship, Trade Winds, King Pin, 4 Roses, Big Deal, Big Daddy, Soccer, Heat Wave, River Boat, Zig Zag, Moulin Rouge, Teachers Pet, Shangri-La and Base Hit.

In addition to that... 3 Coins, Skill Pool, Highways, Darts, Jungle, Beat the Clock and Skill Ball are all good titles too that I don't have but wouldn't mind owning if it weren't for trying to call my collection complete... and not just buying more and more and more games

#25 9 years ago

This is a location-dependent thread Alex so you don't have to worry

#27 9 years ago

They say you need to keep busy in retirement..........

Other than a Pitch and Bat, no room for arcades, so no worries there. And, I did say I "may" buy a Williams someday. I'm still a Gottlieb fanatic - it's in my blood!

#36 9 years ago

I know it's from 1967, but how can there be no mention of Magic City/Magic town, one of Williams best!!

I originally said '62- '66 in my original post but I'll add Magic City/Magic Town to my list

#46 9 years ago

Might as well make it '60 - '67 then. I only did it because several said the early to mid-sixties was the best. Adding your choices to the list - thanks Alex.

I think Gottlieb 300/Top Score has a standup target lit for Special before plunging the ball. (The upper right one that has the 'When Lit' Special insert near it.)

You are correct.

#75 9 years ago
Quoted from sudsy7:

No, you have to hit the star rollover at the top of the playfield to lite it and it goes out if you advance the bonus.

I seem to remember that. It was many years ago I had that game.

Glen,

I did miss Nags and Moulin Rouge as tied for 10th with all the others I have listed. I missed Nags probably because originally my thread said what's your favorite early '62 - mid-sixties '66 Williams em's. I now have expanded it to 1960 - 1967. I had only one vote each for your other 4 titles so they don't make the list.

If someone originally didn't vote for the '60, '61, and '67 titles such as Nags, etc., please do and I'll change the tally to reflect.

Quoted from Pinballprowess:

Conspicuously missing from list:
Nags
Moulin Rouge
Big Deal
Soccer
Ten Spot
Highways
IMNSHO

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Big Daddy (5 likes)
3. River Boat (5 likes)
4. Heat Wave (5 likes)
5. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
6. Trade Winds (3 likes)
7. Jungle (3 likes)
8. Space Ship (3 likes)
9. 8 Ball (3 likes)
10. 3 Coins (2 likes)
11. 4 Roses (2 likes)
12. Skill Pool (2 likes)
13. Wing Ding (2 likes)
14. Zig Zag (2 likes)
15. Nags (2 likes)
16. Moulin Rouge (2 likes)

#81 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Expand it to 1959 and we can include Rocket.

I've got to at least keep it at least some kind of a 60's list

#90 9 years ago

Ok,

Since Rocket is so close to Nags and you two say it so good we'll change the date range from '59 - '67. I was really wanting to know what the popular titles were from this time period anyway - we'll just stretch it out a bit. I'm not going into the 70's though. Someone can start their own 70's thread because I know there's been a few 70's titles mentioned already.

Only 2 likes for Rocket though so you better talk it up some more if you want it to make the list.

New list moving Nags up:

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Big Daddy (5 likes)
3. River Boat (5 likes)
4. Heat Wave (5 likes)
5. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
6. Nags (4 likes)
7. Trade Winds (3 likes)
8. Jungle (3 likes)
9. Space Ship (3 likes)
10. 8 Ball (3 likes)

#92 9 years ago
Quoted from ReallifePin:

I'll second, or third, 1966 Hot Line.

Adding another Hot Line vote:

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Big Daddy (5 likes)
3. River Boat (5 likes)
4. Heat Wave (5 likes)
5. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
6. Nags (4 likes)
7. Trade Winds (3 likes)
8. Jungle (3 likes)
9. Space Ship (3 likes)
10. 8 Ball (3 likes)
11. Hot Line (3 likes)

What about Gusher and Satellite from 58? Just kidding.

Quoted from SteveinTexas:

Shout out for a Nags.
Steve J.

Nags moves up another notch - not surprising since we're going back to '59 now! Who doesn't want a Nags?

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Big Daddy (5 likes)
3. River Boat (5 likes)
4. Heat Wave (5 likes)
5. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
6. Nags (5 likes)

10. 8 Ball (3 likes)
11. Hot Line (3 likes)

#105 9 years ago
Quoted from Pinballprowess:

What?!?!
No 4 Roses on the list??
That's communist!

I recounted the votes for 4 Roses and I came up with 3 likes so it's back on the list!

Moving Nags into a tie for 1st.....

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Big Daddy (5 likes)
3. River Boat (5 likes)
4. Heat Wave (5 likes)
5. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
6. Nags (5 likes)
7. Trade Winds (3 likes)
8. Jungle (3 likes)
9. Space Ship (3 likes)
10. 8 Ball (3 likes)
11. Hot Line (3 likes)
12. 4 Roses (3 likes)

#109 9 years ago
Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Hoov, you might need to group games into cabinet styles (e.g., woodrail, the funky 'space age', reverse wedgehead, and then the square head), get the top 3-5 of each, and then have a bake-off. Once the list spans 10 years, it's tough!
I'll toss a vote for Nags too.

Moving Nags into a tie for 1st.....

1. King Pin (6 likes)
2. Nags (6 likes)
3. Big Daddy (5 likes)
4. River Boat (5 likes)
5. Heat Wave (5 likes)
6. Teachers Pet (5 likes)
7. Trade Winds (3 likes)
8. Jungle (3 likes)
9. Space Ship (3 likes)
10. 8 Ball (3 likes)
11. Hot Line (3 likes)
12. 4 Roses (3 likes)

14. Friendship 7 (3 likes)

Quoted from oldcarz:

Speaking of Nags, I recently jazzed up the lights in the head with 2 GE flasher bulbs. The old bulbs blink faster than the newer ones.

I bought some of those off of ebay a few years ago and they make a BIG difference.

Good idea! Maybe another time......

#116 9 years ago
Quoted from I_P_D_B:

What one player does with that feature is there for the next player to deal with. Gottlieb's 2-player Wild Wild West (and maybe also Lariat) have the unique vari-targets that stay "pushed" until collected by either player.

Outer Space is the same way

I can describe a certain 4-player EM game that is great fun and nobody talks about, but it is Gottlieb and this is a Williams thread.

Please do - now I'm curious

Thanks for sharing this info. Jay - interesting.

Quoted from thumperbumper:

I've owned several nice 60's Williams through the years and these are the ones I liked:
#1 - Teacher's Pet (x2)
#2 - Friendship 7
#3 - Pitstop
#4 - Blast Off
And here are some I couldn't stand:
Doozie
Ding Dong
Cue-T
And one with awesome artwork but just an average player was Magic Town.
I just hated the particle board some of the Williams games were made of and I didn't care for the large coin door/drop front cabinet on the Teacher's Pet either. But they did have some good players.
Tim

Updated list - thumperbumper brought an apple for the Teacher (Teachers Pet that is) which moves it to the top along with moving Apollo/Blast Off and Friendship 7 up:
