Does anyone have a good recommendation for a decent high quality tool bag?
I'm finding myself bringing my own tools to work to repair the machine in the breakroom... and well; I don't want to luck a big ash toolbox around for a few tools.

I'm thinking a nice bag with a DMM, some wrenches, sockets, and screwdriver would be all that I really need. Was looking at Amazon; and it was both underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time.

Looking for something which wouldn't see everyday use... but would be nice looking and hold up virtually forever. Having the tools already in the bag would be nice too. IE I don't necessarily want to be moving tools from my main garage toolbox to my carry box.

    IE this looks interesting:
    http://www.amazon.com/Rothco-Mechanics-Tool-Bag-Olive/dp/B000BFNJES
but would need to get tools to go with it.

Pricing isn't the primary concern... I want something that's gonna last... but also don't want something that's $400 with no reason for it being $400. (IE name brand)

I have bought several Husky from Home Depot and like them. Decent quality and good price.

As far as filling them with tools and not pulling from my "good tools" in my Snap On box -- I buy Harbor Freight stuff for pin repairs (cheap & decent quality). I was an auto mechanic for years and always used nothing but Snap On for auto repairs but Snap On is really overkill for pin repairs. And the nice thing is if a tool bag full of Harbor Freight tools "grows legs" the whole bag full didn't cost what one or two Snap On wrenches would cost.

I use one similar to the one that Joe2012 posted (post number 2). And like too-many-pins, I have duplicate tools in the bag...the cheaper ones. But I used to do a lot of service calls. Not so many anymore. My bag is big in that it holds a lot of tools. Unfortunately, that makes it heavy too.

I own more tool bags and tool boxes than I would like to admit. I've got 3-4 Husky bags, various bucket tool systems, a Milwaukee tool backpack, a Custom Leathercraft backpack and several Custom Leathercraft bags. The Custom Leathercrafts are in the $30-$60 range and were my favorite up until recently...

I just got a Veto Pro Pac Tech XL and while expensive, it is at a whole different level of quality than any of my others. It is super sturdy and extremely well designed. If you want a $40 tool bag don't even click on this link but if you are the kind of person that invests in nice tools you may want to consider a Veto to store them : http://www.amazon.com/Veto-Tech-XL-Tool-1-Pack/dp/B00DYRFEJI

For my main electrical tool bag I use this.
    http://www.amazon.com/VETO-PRO-PAC-Model-XL/dp/B00009K77K/ref=pd_sim_469_3
I can't recommend it enough. Great quality bag.

If I'm walking any distance or don't need every tool I use this.
    http://www.amazon.com/Klein-Tools-55421BP-14-Tradesman-Organizer/dp/B00MK9UY0A/ref=sr_1_1

I have one of these for pinball only tools
ebay.com link: PLATT 600T CB Tool Case Heavy Duty Polyethylene 1 Pokt

Notice all of them have specific tool slots? I find that to be a huge help. Do you want to dig through the bottom of a bag to find a specific nut driver or know exactly what slot it goes in?

yeah - I looked at the Veto packs... they sure look nice; I'm not sure if I want to invest in that kind of cash. Esp if I'm going to fill it with HF tools because of the theft issue. Keep those ideas coming in. I might still endup doing the Veto pack. just don't know yet. looking at all suggestions.

Get an old ammo box from army navy. They work great and double as a stool.

I went to Lowes yesterday... not sure I like anything they really had. I mean; they'd work... but not what I had in mind. I think I'm looking for more of a softish bag... not a tote with soft sides and a hard bottom. I think I want something that will fit my meters; and a bosh screwdriver plus a set of sockets.

    I think I'm going with
    http://www.amazon.com/VETO-PRO-PAC-MC-Veto/dp/B00NLXNW3A
Seems to hold some tools... and isn't gawd awful expensive.

Below is a picture of my favorite tool bag. I can't find this exact one anywhere. It's not indestructible but has held up very well for nearly a year now. And yes, I use it like every other day. It it lightweight and I don't feel like it could easily be torn or break down. I like it enough that I am going to buy a second.

    Ive got this

    https://store.snapon.com/Plastic-Boxes-with-Steel-Drawers-F-O-D-Design--Tool-Chest-Plastic-Steel-Drawers-F-O-D-Red-Shell-Red-Drawers--P637246.aspx

You can get them for 100-300 used.

Added foam to 3 of the drawers for sockets, screw drivers etc.

I know when any tool is missing with the foam and keeps everything from shifting during the drive

This is the tool bag I carry. I wouldn't carry anything else.

    Quoted from ChrisHibler:

    I like that one Wolfmarsh.

Hah, that's the exact link I purchased from. I really do love this bag.

yeah, that is the thread about my mobile boxes. i still really like them (and believe i got a good deal on them), but i noticed that the cover over the wheels tends to get caught on the edge of the stairs. i am working on a solution for this.

I have a cheap yellow Stanley brand tool bag full of cheap Harbor Freight tools. Pins don't have any parts that require quality tools. It is more important to have many different sizes/shapes to reach into odd spots. Lots of random screwdriver and pliers sets are your friend. That crappy bag is still holding up after years of use without breaking.

I have a second bag that I put in more delicate tools like multi-meters, contact benders, soldering iron, solder sucker, common spare parts (fuses, light bulbs).

These are not the tools that I use at home on my machines. These marginal tools will often make a job take longer, but they will get the job done and I don't have to carry around a refrigerator size tool chest.
