Sounds like a capacitor going bad on the display. The reason it powers up right away when you turn it off then on, is the capacitor is charged. when you turn it on cold, then the capacitor has already leaked the power it stored. Might not be a pretty fix, but should be fixable, just have to figure out which one. Or try to replace them all
