I believe ColorDMD has taken the 5.0 code into account. But even then, ColorDMD doesn't require ROM changes in any game. (It works by colorizing the animations; the game doesn't know it's talking to a ColorDMD.) The worst case scenario should be that some frames don't get colored, or they get colored incorrectly.
(I haven't tried it yet.)
