Quoted from chuckwurt:What do we need to do to bring these back??
Just had some break on my stars and had to break down and put new ones in. These things are hideous. Haha
Bring back tombstones!!![quoted image]
Rip. Tombstone drops are awesome! Hate those repro ones, what do they even call them?
I’m shocked nobody reproduces the glorious classic Stern/Bally tombstones.
There's a 3D printed option: https://www.shapeways.com/product/J8REG7JSC/stern-tombstone-drop-target-13a-11-rib-guide
Not quite the same as an injected molded part, but better than nothing if you really don't like the newer shelf style.
Tombstones are the bally version - the stern version are called 'chichlets' to differentiate from the differing rib size.
All the repro drops are wrong and brick. Something's different about the plastic formulation I think.
This is why I save all my old drops/banks from parted out playfields from long ago.

Not to mention they need to be shipped overseas and are 12 bucks a pop.
Quoted from chuckwurt:I think the length is okay, the stars are just printed too low. Dumb.
Well I know Tractordoc likes to shim them up...don't know if Stars has ever been part of the discussion though.
Quoted from TheLaw:And they aren't even the correct length
I replaced all 9 billion of them on my Nine Ball, and the repros are definitely slightly shorter.

The designer lives overseas, but the printed parts don't need to be shipped overseas. Shapeways can print & ship from the US.

Okay. Still though. Not interested paying 13 bucks a pop when I could need close to 20 of them at a time.

Nobody said you have to. Just pointing it out as a potential alternative.
Somebody SHOULD just take an existing tombstone and make a new mold off of it.
It would automatically be extremely popular if say, Steve at PBR started selling original Tombstones.

No I appreciate it, but there has to be a better way.

If someone has access to an injection mold (and that mold isn't worn out and is still usable), that would be ideal. Creating a new injection mold is prohibitively expensive--sometimes costing thousands or tens of thousands, depending on the complexity.

Easily this. I did work for a company that made plastic bottles for major corporations. Basically everything you see on grocery store shelves. There were pallets of about 25-30 molds on them and I was told that each pallet was worth 500k to 1mil
