ToM trap door assembly; to weld or not to weld?

So this is the second time the scoop assembly has come apart. These two pieces are not supposed to separate. Any reason not to weld them together? I don't want to put this back together a third time.

Why not try it and see? I've had to weld parts before that came apart and they're still doing fine.

I'm into the weld! I just wanted to confirm with the universe that this would be ok to move forward on. Still new here and already had regret-sies on "fixes" I didn't research well.

Nobody here is going to care if you fix this by welding it. You'll probably get kudos if it works. If we could fix Stern coil stops by welding them, we probably would.

If the collar is thicker than the bracket. You may burn the bracket before a good weld is possible.

On MM troll carriages. I brazed them. Worked great.
