I just got home an Italian re-import ToM that I am working on converting. I followed the thread here (as well as was shown a working molex connector from another pinhead which I took a picture of) https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/power-conversion-220v-to-110v-europe-to-north-america and converted the molex connector to match what I've seen in both sets of instructions/photos. What I was shown and what is in that thread match each other and what I have done.

I checked the fuse in the metal box where the molex goes and it is a 5A fuse. It sounds like I need an 8A fuse, which I can easily swap, but did not want to until I confirmed all is well. I'd rather it blow first, if that was the issue. I swapped the power cord to a US one and plugged it in. Initially when I plug it in, with the power switch off, I immediately get speaker sound (like a pop or crackle when the speakers get power) and I hear what sounds like a magnet or transformer buzzing inside the machine. Some diagnostics lights show up on the CPU board (I can only see so far one red light on). This is all before the game is turned on. I immediately unplugged it and checked everything. To double confirm I re-plugged the molex in and tried again, same situation. I then turned on the main power switch (since I've never owned a ToM maybe this is normal) and nothing much else happened.

As far as I can double and triple check the molex is correct. Made sure all pins were seated well. Power cord is a direct swap, nothing suspicious there. The fuse in the "power box" is not blown. I guess I am wondering why anything is getting power before the game is even turned on.

I don't see any dip switch settings in the manual or other modifications that I need to make.

Any help here as to why it is getting power before I turn it on and what might be wrong?

One with the red wire is my plug and the green wire is the reference plug from a ToM that is known to work. So as far I can see, even matching up the pinout from that other thread, they are identical.

Sounds like wiring is messed up inside the metal box over the on/off switch.

I'd unplug the game, and then go over that.

Thanks. Nothing about the switch/box looks tampered with visually but I'll open it up and look/take pics.

You are getting power from somewhere. Something isn't right.

LTG? What exactly am I googling? I posted here because I'm stuck.

Here are pics of the power box. Nothing appears to be tampered with nor does it look to have been opened in some time, if ever. I am going to try and trace the wires given the schematic but maybe someone here knows this more intimately and can confirm if something is wrong. I started comparing the wires in the jumper to where they go in the box but it gets confusing after a few hops. I'll see what I can do.

Hi All,

Trying to change a UK import TAF 110v, although the molex seems to be differently pinned compared to this helpful thread https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/power-conversion-220v-to-110v-europe-to-north-america or the molex block above.

Do i need to add pins t the molex?

Any advice would be appreciated.

many thanks
clayton
