Wondering if anyone has had the intestinal fortitude to install the Magic Post feature?

Also, does the Poof target have any other effect on game play or is it effectively a dead target after they pulled the Magic Post feature from beta?

From the ROM History notes:

"The Magic Post is an up-down post that sits between the flippers and is
raised when the "Poof" target on the lower right is hit. Coil 36 raises
the plastic disc between the flippers for a few seconds and has no latch
to hold it in the raised position (unlike the old Bally mechanisms).

You *might* be able to use an "Up/Down Post Assembly" from Stern Pinball
(p/n #500-6293-00) and try to install it in a game, if you are brave enough
to remove the lamp insert in your playfield. There is also a flash lamp
underneath that illuminates the post when it is up. The flasher does not
replace the controlled lamp that also shines in this position."

The Poof target just awards some arbitrary points without the post.

I think installing a post on this machine would ruin the playfield. It is totally unnecessary as the ball rarely drains on this machine anyway (at least at my house).

And there's a feature option for short ball saver after hits to the trunk (if you have a Trunk -> STDM tendency) which is more useful than a post that pops up for a few seconds when the target gets hit.

I think it would be neat just for the sake of doing something that's been written into a ROM, but I don't think I would ever put a hole in my playfield

A friend of mine did it. He relocated the insert to where it was on prototype games. Looked cool.

I wonder if he has any pics...

Ohh, that would be great if he did.

Cool. I always thought there was maybe a real reason for that switch.

Now that I'm home I can see there already is a hole there. I think I'll still leave the shoot again insert there. What I did do last night was install a bunch of those color changing leds at several gi locations and under all the white magic and spell magic inserts. It's pretty cool. I guess a shaker won't be necessary after all. I'll just move it next to Gladiators, it'll get plenty from that.

You would need testicular fortitude to try that mod

Mac can do *anything*! He's a master woodworker amongst other talents of his.

Many people just plunk down the money for a new cabinet. I understand why some people do this - but it's not for me. I personally feel the term 'restoration' means use as much of the original platform as you can - I talked with Mac about my Creech, which was a crumpled up ashtray of a pin when I got it. The bottom was blown out of the cabinet. Someone had reamed out the right side flipper button hole, and installed a Gottlieb style flipper button - the type where the button passes through a white plastic sleeve, instead of being installed in a bore with a PEM nut run down on it. To return it to original seemed impossible - but Mac had an idea... and he did an awesome job with the repair and decal job for me!

Mac's a good friend and does a heck of a job on anything that involves wood
