Just saw this. What a sad day with everything happening in Vegas as well.

Yeah that and like 58 + people got murdered in Vegas. Plus hundreds injured. Weird days.

#3 6 years ago

Rock in Peace, Tom. You were a true American rock legend.

Tom Petty is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. This one hurts.

#4 6 years ago

Saw it. Can't believe it. Feel like crying.

Totally. Fell out of his music for a few years, and then rekindled the love this summer with the Tom Petty channel on XM. Had it playing wherever I was - in the car, yard work, pool. It was just a perfect soundtrack to the summer. Was feeling hopeful for a recovery all day but heard 10 min ago he was taken off of life support. Today sucks.

#6 6 years ago

Damn this sucks, what a great guy and musician.....sad. R.I.P Tom!

#7 6 years ago

oh shit so glad i got to see him 4 times, twice at red rocks. what a great artist. would not have seen this coming. super sad days

#9 6 years ago

This is very sad, but acceptable. But Vegas. What the hell!

#10 6 years ago

RIP. Bummer...

#11 6 years ago

RIP Tom

#12 6 years ago

Loved his music. Will be missed.

#13 6 years ago

Not good. Really like his music. American Girl is my favorite.

#14 6 years ago

Very unfortunate news. "Mary Jane's Last Dance" was one of my favorite songs as a kid. As I live in his home town, I expect I may hear about this in public as well.

#15 6 years ago

I listen to Tom Petty almost everyday.. What a shit day with everything going on

#16 6 years ago

Total bummer.....I love Tom Petty..

#17 6 years ago

I just saw him in July. He put on a great show. I saw him back in the 90s and honestly he was every bit as good this summer. This is a day to put on some Tom Petty and crack open some good whisky.

#18 6 years ago

Sad. What a great catalog of songs he has left us to remember him by.

#19 6 years ago

I always thought You're Gonna Get It was a great album.

#20 6 years ago

Terrible news... love his tunes. What a bummer.

#21 6 years ago

The best!
Man, going to miss him.
I'm Learning to Fly.

#22 6 years ago

Saw him and Joe Walsh earlier in the year, and so glad I got to see them. RIP Tom.

#23 6 years ago

Huge loss for the music world. One of the true rock legends.

#24 6 years ago

Sad news indeed

If you haven't seen the Netflix documentary it is very good and worth watching.

Dang no way! Tom Petty was a great artist and will be greatly missed. Had so many great tunes, Free Fallin' being one of my favs. Sucks big time. RIP.

#26 6 years ago

Another legend gone too soon.

#27 6 years ago

this is bad news. It's coming to the time, when all the rock gods we have grown to love are now at the age to start dying. Pretty soon all the legends will be gone. Guess he's "into the great wide open" now.

#28 6 years ago

Fantastic musician and song writer. He has been a part of so many great songs over the years. I wish I would have caught him in concert again now.

#29 6 years ago

Gonna listen to 'Damn the Torpedoes ' tonight for sure.

#30 6 years ago

"Learning To Fly" is my favorite song of his and always enjoyed listening to his music to get through the day on the road for work. Gone way too soon.

#31 6 years ago

Now there are conflicting reports that he's not dead. Doesn't anyone verify their sources before they report a story?

#32 6 years ago

Wow.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Petty

Wikipedia had his death date and 'this person has recently died' up an hour ago (I checked). Now it is gone. Also, USA Today (as of 2 minutes ago) is saying he died - and there are MANY celibates tweeting about his impact to their lives.

Damn. Just saw him in concert in August. Great show and a great musician!

RIP

The singer is not expected to live throughout the day, but he's still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate -- the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept

#36 6 years ago

Man one of the greats for sure! A few of his songs were played at a mid mountain bash in steamboat springs. Just so happened it was the day we got married!

#37 6 years ago

Not dead yet gents. Wish him well

FUCK. Legend.
His radio station was spectacular when he was hosting and playing obscure stuff like 60's Chicago Blues or 50's country. Saw him many times, consummate gentleman and could rub a Rickenbacker like nobody else.
FUCK.
