I took an old credit card, cut a notch in the side of it and keep that in my kit; it's an almost-exactly correct spacer for the amount of up-and-down play that should be present between the bushing and flipper bat. Hold the bat down with the card in there to maintain spacing, press the pawl up tight on the bottom, tighten it up and then remove the card. Makes it easy.
