Noticed this hack on a game I imported not too long ago. Backbox GI illumination doesn't work at all. I haven't tested anything there yet since I don't know what I should be testing for. I am assuming there is no power to the backbox GI or flashers. If someone can tell me what to test on that messed up header (if that is indeed something that controls the backbox) I can definitely do it. Just not sure where to start. Thanks!

Quoted from LTG:

I'd start by cleaning up J120. GI and Flashers are different circuits.
Pinwiki has the wiring chart/colors - https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_WPC#General_Illumination_Problems
Flasher - check your 20 volt test point for a start.

What does cleaning it up entail? Are you saying put the header back in and the plug?

I'm not sure I exactly follow the guide. What am I looking for exactly?

Quoted from PinMonk:

If that's the worst hack you find on a reimport, you're doing pretty good. Re-imports are the pins where I've seen the craziest most head-scratching hacks. Make no sense at all.

I had three in this latest container shipment locally and they were all decent. Aside from some bad switches, playfield wear and cabinet wear they are in pretty good shape.

New pins on the board. New connector. Be sure you find all wires that go into that connector. Could be more thatn what is soldered to the board.

Read through it from that link I posted. There is a chart for what color wires go to J120 and J121. And there is more information there on what could be wrong.

Thanks. I'll order the connectors. I am worried that the traces might be messed up which is why they pulled the connector.

Do you know which pins I need for the female side? I just did a power conversion and used .093 but I assume the header pins are different.

Maybe I should grab something like this and splice the wires?

Seems like this could be the header:

Maybe this Plug:

Or this plug:

And these ends:

For reference here is a large shot of that connector and wires how they should be.

So it looks like the wires and plug that are inline on mine are all part of the hack.

https://www.greatplainselectronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CS156-11-LR This is for 11 pins, check yours, Ed at Great Plains has for different number of pins.
Great Plains also has tools to crimp. You tube has short videos to learn crimping in you need it.

Many thanks!
